A flash of bone-chilling light suddenly appeared before Tarui it was Lantian Qianyi's Tachi. "Die!" Lantian Qianyi shouted coldly.
"Oh no!" Tarui's face paled. He tried to stand, but the searing pain in his abdomen robbed him of all strength. Is this where it ends for me? Tarui thought with a heavy heart.
The Raikage, who had been on the verge of delivering a finishing blow to Gehenna and Hei Yanji, saw this scene play out and his expression shifted instantly. With a flash of blue light, he vanished from his position.
Just as Lantian Qianyi was about to strike the final blow, his senses flared. He leaped back instantly, vanishing from the spot. Boom! A split second later, a massive fist smashed into the ground where he had just been standing. The earth cracked under the force, sending debris flying in every direction.
Seeing the man who had appeared, Tarui's expression flickered with relief and shame. "Ra Lord Raikage!"
"Tarui, your arm!" The Raikage roared in fury as he saw Tarui's wretched state and the severed limb lying on the ground.
"I'm sorry, Lord Raikage. I was⌠too useless," Tarui whispered, clutching his bleeding shoulder and lowering his head in shame.
"Go to the medical ninjas in the rear. I'll take it from here!" the Raikage commanded, his eyes fixed coldly on Lantian Qianyi.
"Lord Raikage!" Tarui looked up, wanting to say more, but the Raikage cut him off with a sharp wave of his hand.
"Say no more! Go, now!"
Seeing the Raikage's determined expression, Tarui managed a bitter smile. He spoke with a heavy, solemn tone: "Lord Raikage, be careful. That man's ability is extremely unusual.
He uses a technique that combines Taijutsu and Genjutsu a Gen-Taijutsu. It is very similar to our Kumogakure Nintaijutsu, but you fall into his illusions before you even realize it. That is how I ended up like this. Please, watch yourself."
Hearing Tarui's warning, the Raikage's expression grew grave. He wasn't particularly afraid of Ninjutsu, but Genjutsu users were always troublesome especially one who could weave illusions directly into physical combat. Furthermore, we are currently at a disadvantage. There is no need for further pointless sacrifice. Notify all squads to retreat immediately to the base on the border of the Land of Sakura. Await my next command."
"But Lord Lantian, what about you and Lord Deidara?" the battered Sakura Shinobi asked with concern.
"We have our own ways of getting away. Now, follow my orders!" Lantian Qianyi said sharply. Seeing the signs of Lantian's rising anger, the ninja trembled and nodded respectfully.
It wasn't that Lantian Qianyi wanted to retreat, but this assault had been costly. The Sakura Shinobi were already at a numerical disadvantage, and there was still a clear gap in quality between them and the veteran ninja of Iwagakure and Kumogakure.
Even with the advantage of a surprise attack and trapping the enemy in a valley, the losses were staggering. Out of five thousand ninja, over fifteen hundred had already fallen.
Most of the survivors were nursing non-trivial injuries, with many in critical condition.
However, Kumogakure and Iwagakure were not faring well either. Their losses were equally massive. Deidara's bombs alone had blasted away nearly a hundred enemy ninja.
With the Raikage and Tsuchikage tied down, Hei Yanji and Gehenna had gone on a killing spree, causing immense damage to the Stone and Cloud forces.
For the Sakura Shinobi, this was a war for their very survival; they fought with the desperate resolve of those ready to die. For the ninja of the Hidden Stone and Hidden Cloud, however, this was merely a war of aggression.
If they lost, they could simply withdraw. They couldn't throw their lives away with the same reckless abandon as the Sakura ninjas. Consequently, they fought with a certain degree of hesitation and fear. After all, no one wanted to die in a war against a tiny nation.
Those who have cast aside the fear of death are terrifying, especially when they possess the power of a ninja. Because of this, the Cloud and Stone forces suffered heavy casualties. Not counting the severely wounded,
their death toll had already reached nearly three thousand double the losses of the Sakura Shinobi. This was only an estimate; the final numbers wouldn't be known until after the battle.
The battlefield was currently carpeted with the corpses of ninjas from all three sides. Seeing this, the Raikage was consumed by an extraordinary irritation.
He had never expected the Land of Sakura a prize he thought he could seize with a single hand to be so resilient.

"I will see you dead!" the Raikage roared, his eyes bloodshot with rage as he glared at Lantian Qianyi.
"I'm afraid you lack the ability," Lantian Qianyi sneered, completely indifferent to the Raikage's fury.
The moment the words left his mouth, Lantian's body blurred. He charged at the Raikage like a bolt of lightning, his Tachi carving a chilling arc through the air. The sharp tip of the blade lunged straight for the Raikage's throat.
"Seeking death! You dare charge me head-on?" The Raikage broke into a savage grin. In terms of speed and strength, he held an overwhelming advantage.
For his opponent to abandon Ninjutsu and rush him physically was the height of stupidity. He had originally thought somewhat highly of the man, but it seemed the brat was simply committing suicide.
Powerful blue electricity once again swathed the Raikage's body. A terrifying aura erupted, and a mountain of pressure bore down on Lantian Qianyi. "Die!" the Raikage bellowed, preparing to unleash his pride and joy, the Body Flicker Technique.
But in that exact moment, the Raikage's expression underwent a violent, sudden change.
