The Chapter get Retranslated
Late night.
You Xuan sat in a chair in the laboratory, yawned tiredly, and stretched.
The huge laboratory was empty, and his was the only one with a light still on in the entire hallway. Moonlight spilled into the empty teaching building, and the lights flickered in the silence of the late night.
Normally, he would have returned to his dorm by this time, but today he had a few ideas for his research, so he stayed a bit later.
Tonight, he had another in-depth discussion with Alexis Rhodes, subtly hinting at the future enhancement directions for Cyber Angel. You Xuan figured he'd have to put together a deck himself once it matured.
The Cyber Angel's operational ability after enhancement was quite formidable; it was just that there weren't many strong ace monsters in the Anime World at the moment. But that was fine; it was always good to have a set of good things prepared.
The strongest form of Cyber Angel wasn't actually enhanced within its archetype, but rather when it was equipped to certain highly compatible other decks could it unleash 120% of its combat power.
However, once this deck's external attachments were unlocked and evolved into its complete form, it would instantly gain an overwhelming combat power that leaped several generations.
Bastion Misawa was currently focused on Zombie-Type development. You Xuan had also acquired a Gozuki and a Mezuki, both of which were solid Zombie-Type staple cards and quite strong in the current environment.
It was just that he didn't play Zombie-themed decks much right now, but he would definitely include them if he got a strong Zombie deck in the future.
He leaned back in his chair and stretched his neck joints. Turning his head, he suddenly saw a small hand offering him a mug.
A cup of steaming coffee.
You Xuan subconsciously took the cup and looked up in that direction, surprised to find that it was Silent Magician who had offered it.
The silver-haired magician girl handed the cup to him and immediately dissolved into her spirit form, looking away somewhat bashfully.
He was surprised that a Spirit had learned to proactively help make coffee.
You Xuan smiled, took a sip from the mug, and then gestured to her with it.
"Thank you."
Silent Magician smiled slightly, curtsied, and then returned to the Duel Disk's deck.
After finishing the coffee, You Xuan checked the time again; it was almost midnight.
"That's enough for today."
He stretched, got up from the chair, turned off the lights and power, and left the laboratory.
Leaving the teaching building, the path to the dorms was a narrow lane surrounded by dense woods. The forest path wound and twisted, each step accompanied by the rustling sound of fallen leaves underfoot. The branches swayed in the wind, their soft whispers sounding like something murmuring.
You Xuan considered himself not afraid of the dark, but even so, he felt that the atmosphere tonight was a little eerie. Every breeze through the woods seemed to carry ghostly whispers.
Silent Magician, who had already returned to the deck, floated out again, holding her staff defensively.
You Xuan frowned, "A Spirit's presence?"
You Xuan had recently begun to find that matters concerning Spirits were a bit metaphysical. Just like the Yu Family members in the protagonist group could understand Kuriboh, after spending a long time together, he seemed to slowly begin to understand what Silent Magician usually expressed without words.
He didn't know if it counted as a sign of deepening bonds.
Silent Magician nodded seriously.
You Xuan pondered. Could it be another rift to the Spirit World, like the one in the abandoned dorms last time?
Just then, there was a sound in the woods.
At first, the sound was faint, but it quickly became clearer, as if something was moving swiftly through the forest, constantly approaching them.
Silent Magician vigilantly shielded You Xuan, blocking the direction from which the thing was approaching. The leaves trembled with rustling, and branches swayed, as if even the bushes and jungle were subtly uneasy.
Then a dark shadow suddenly darted out from the bushes.
"Whoa! It's me, don't shoot... I mean, don't swing your staff!"
It was Jaden.
Jaden, who rushed out of the forest in a hurry, almost ran head-first into the staff Silent Magician offered, its magic cannon-charged tip nearly hitting his nose.
Jaden quickly braked and raised his hands in surrender. Silent Magician raised an eyebrow, retracted her staff, and stepped back.
"Jaden?" You Xuan asked strangely, "What are you doing here so late?"
"Well... it's a long story." Jaden scratched his head. "An Obelisk Blue student suddenly burst into our dorm yelling for help..."
As he spoke, Syrus Truesdale, Chumley Huffington, and Professor Daitokuji appeared from behind, gasping for breath.
"Big brother, you're running too fast, we can't keep up..."
All three were panting.
"Eh? You Xuan?" Professor Daitokuji was startled. "What are you doing here?"
"Oh, I stayed a little late in the laboratory today."
Jaden suddenly remembered something: "Ah, this isn't the time to talk about that! Saving lives is urgent! Let's go, we can talk while we run."
However, even though he hadn't said it yet, this posture and scene already gave You Xuan a rough idea of what was happening.
It seemed to be one of the plot points from the early stages of GX, and Jaden's first encounter with the Duel Monster Spirit, Jinzo, who appeared as a villain in the original story.
Jinzo.
You Xuan thought for a moment and followed along. Sure enough, what Jaden explained next was pretty much what he remembered.
Simply put, there was a club at the school specializing in researching Duel Monster Spirits, and it had three students who were masters of courting death.
These three were messing around late at night playing a Duel Monster Spirit-special edition of the Ouija Board. And they didn't pick Dark Magician Girl, who was powerful and easy to talk to, nor Kuriboh, who was low-level and gentle-natured. For some unknown reason, they chose Jinzo.
As a result, the summoning succeeded, but not completely. The summoned Jinzo was in a half-dead, incomplete state.
Jinzo, seeking to become complete, needed souls as sacrifices. However, it didn't directly snatch them; it politely asked the three, "I need three sacrifices, would you accept that?"
The three thick-headed students, naturally assuming the sacrifices referred to cards, patted their chests and declared, "Of course, no problem! Not just three, thirty wouldn't be a problem!"
So, Jinzo appeared according to the contract.
Two days passed, and two of the club members went missing.
Only then did the third student realize that the sacrifices referred to them. He panicked and, in desperation, ran out in the middle of the night to seek help. Somehow, he stumbled into the Slifer Red dorm and encountered Jaden and his group.
Just as Jaden and the others finished explaining the situation, the power to the Slifer Red dorm was suddenly cut, and the lights flickered off.
When they came back on, everyone discovered that Jinzo's spirit had indeed appeared, picking up the unconscious student with one hand and turning to rush into the dense forest.
Jaden and the others had chased him all the way here.
And You Xuan knew that if he remembered correctly, according to the anime's original story, the place Jinzo fled to should be…
Indeed, bursting out of the jungle, a massive, fence-locked power facility appeared before their eyes.
"This is Duel Academy Island's power station; it provides all the electricity for the academy," Professor Daitokuji said.
Following that, blue electric arcs flashed in the air, like a Thunder Dragon writhing in the middle of the power station. A lightning bolt struck down from the sky, blasting open a translucent phantom on the ground.
It was none other than the famous Rare Card Duel Monster Spirit, Jinzo.
"Mommy!" Professor Daitokuji shrieked, "A Spirit! It's really a Spirit!"
You Xuan squinted at him.
The big shot's acting was, as always, top-notch.
Chumley Huffington asked, confused, "Didn't you always tell us that Duel Monster Spirits are real, Professor?"
"Ah, well... knowing it is one thing, but seeing it with my own eyes is another," Professor Daitokuji adjusted his glasses.
Jaden took a deep breath and stepped forward, about to speak to Jinzo, but You Xuan had already beaten him to it.
"You're Jinzo's spirit, right?"
Jinzo's form shimmered ambiguously amidst the electrical currents of the power station, not responding.
The three missing students were lying unconscious nearby, and it seemed they could still be saved.
Seeing no reaction from the other party, You Xuan revealed a card.
It was the "Jinzo" card he held.
Indeed, this time Jinzo reacted, taking an eager step towards him, seemingly desiring the card in his hand.
"As expected, this card helps your complete revival, right? You want this card?"
Jinzo pondered for a few seconds, seemingly considering the other party's motives.
Then he spoke in a low voice.
"I want that card, but I won't give up these three sacrifices either." He shook his head. "They themselves agreed to be sacrifices for my revival."
He paused, then emphasized again.
"But I also want that card."
Hmm, still a mature spirit, wanted everything.
"You all seem to be Duelists, so let's resolve this problem using your methods."
Jinzo pointed at the Duel Disk on You Xuan's wrist.
"As expected, it comes down to a Duel."
You Xuan nodded.
It was completely unsurprising.
"A Duel is fine. If you win, this card is yours, and I won't interfere with your affairs anymore.
But if you lose, then what?"
For Spirits, Dueling was more sacred than it was for humans, so the stakes had to be agreed upon.
Jinzo thought for a moment and said, "If I lose, then I am willing to give up these three souls who voluntarily offered themselves to me."
You Xuan shook his head. "I don't know those three."
Jinzo: "?"
Everyone behind him: "???"
Why aren't you following the script?
Does that sound like something a protagonist should say?
Jinzo stifled himself for a few seconds, then asked, "Then what do you want?"
"Every card is like life to a Duelist; it's irreplaceable. I'm putting my partner, who is like my soul, as a stake. Shouldn't you also offer an equivalent stake?" You Xuan said.
Jinzo hesitated: "Are you saying... you want my soul?"
"As expected of a high-level spirit, your comprehension is indeed high."
You Xuan smiled.
"If I win, then you can reside in this card. And from now on, you won't need any souls or sacrifices to revive, right?"
That way, if he won, the three students naturally wouldn't have to be sacrifices.
"Heh, interesting. A human Duelist, wants to become my master?"
Jinzo said in a deep voice, already taking a Dueling stance.
"Then you'll need to earn my recognition first."
"Then I'll take that as a 'yes'."
You Xuan also activated his Duel Disk.
"Duel!" x2
Negotiations complete, talks concluded, now it was time to decide with cards.
After their exchange, the others had no chance to interject. It seemed by the time they came to their senses, the two had already fast-forwarded to the Dueling segment.
Jaden suddenly realized something.
Wait.
It seems like... the card he came to get was stolen by You Xuan again?
