"He shuffled his entire hand and everything on his field back into the deck in one go!" Syrus cried out in shock. "Isn't that really bad?"
"This guy's drawing power is truly something else." Jaden's eyes sparkled with excitement. "So cool... I want to duel him more and more!"
"He wiped out all my resources in an instant," Yugen said, shrugging with a helpless expression. "Not bad. However, before that happened, I activated this card."
He pointed to another set card that had already flipped face-up beside him.
Damon only just noticed it. He had been so focused on his spiritual meditation that he had completely missed the activation.
"The Trap Card, Destruct Potion! I destroy one monster on my field and restore Life Points equal to that monster's attack points." Yugen pointed to his monster. "I destroy Ryu Kokki to regain LP equal to its attack power."
[Yugen: LP 2400 → LP 4800]
"Hmph. Trying your best to squeeze some value out of your remaining resources at the last second? Do as you wish." Damon waved his hand dismissively. "But regardless, every card in your hand and on your field is now shuffled back into the deck!"
Every card on Yugen's field dissolved into streaks of golden light and flew back into his deck. Even Despair from the Dark returned to Damon's deck. In a heartbeat, the field was scrubbed clean.
"To remain this calm under these circumstances... you truly are out of the ordinary," Damon remarked. "But how long can that composure last? I summon Berserk Gorilla!"
[Berserk Gorilla: ATK 2000]
"Berserk Gorilla, attack him directly!"
The crimson ape let out a furious roar and spat a burst of intense flame from its maw!
But as the spinning fire closed in on Yugen, it slammed into an illusory barrier. A ghostly silhouette shimmered before him, shielding him from the impact like a spectral wall.
"Necro Gardna, from my Graveyard," Yugen explained. "By banishing this card from the Graveyard during my opponent's turn, I can negate one attack."
"One of the five cards discarded by Card Destruction at the very beginning?" Damon nodded. "Even with your hand and field gone, you still had a plan in the Graveyard..."
"Ordinary people like us who aren't as confident in our draws as you are have to make thorough preparations," Yugen said with a smile.
"You are indeed an excellent duelist. But there is a limit to relying on such tactics; I realized that long ago. Only the draw can truly decide the outcome." Damon revealed a card from his hand. "Continuous Spell: Heart of the Underdog! During my Draw Phase, if I draw a Normal Monster, I can show it to you to draw another card!"
"Another card to help him draw..." The group looked at each other.
Just how obsessed was this guy with drawing?
Then, realization struck.
"Oh no..." Alexis said grimly. "Damon still has the Continuous Trap, Miracle Draw, on the field. During the Draw Phase, if he declares the name of the card he draws and gets it right, it deals 1,000 damage to the opponent."
Chumley caught on immediately. "And with Heart of the Underdog, he can keep drawing as long as he pulls Normal Monsters..."
"That means if he keeps calling the draws right, he can draw and deal 1,000 damage every single time!" Syrus exclaimed.
"Is there really such a ridiculous combo!?"
A draw-based One Turn Kill?
"My training is complete. My deck is built around the theme of the draw itself," Damon chuckled confidently. "I end my turn."
Yugen reached out and rested his hand on his deck.
His field was empty, and his hand was empty. On the surface, he had nothing left to use.
In truth, to prevent this exact scenario, he had other safety nets in his Graveyard. He still had resources he could mobilize, but those were just insurance policies. Damon was right about one thing: in this world, dueling relied on the draw.
No matter how strong the tactics or formations, one still needed to back them up with the draw when facing a true powerhouse. One didn't need a miracle draw every time, but they needed to be consistent against the strong.
Since enrolling, Yugen had gathered more and more Duel Spirits, and his draw practice had yielded results. This battle, this very moment, was the perfect time to test them.
An empty field and an empty hand were often the moments where a duelist's potential was most stimulated. If his training had truly paid off, then this draw would...
Syrus swallowed hard. "This draw might decide the game. Yugen wouldn't..."
"It'll be fine." Jaden, even more confident than Yugen himself, wore a wide grin. "Yugen is a true duelist. There won't be any problems."
Yugen closed his eyes. He channeled the experience from his training, feeling the palpitations of the deck the moment when the duelist's soul merged with their cards.
"Draw!"
Yugen smiled. He had succeeded.
"The card I drew is Elemental HERO Bubbleman." He showed the card. "When this is the only card in my hand, I can Special Summon it."
[Elemental HERO Bubbleman: ATK 800]
Syrus's eyes widened. "The same as Big Bro's..."
They all knew that if Jaden had an empty field and hand, there was a ninety percent chance he'd draw Bubbleman. Of course, Yugen wasn't playing a HERO deck; Bubbleman was simply an engine. In the anime, Bubbleman's effect was effectively a "Pot of Greed on legs," making it viable for almost any deck.
"Whoa! It really is Bubbleman!" Jaden cheered, planting his hands on his hips. "Haha! This is proof of our fiery friendship!"
"When Bubbleman is successfully summoned while I have no other cards on my field, I draw two cards."
Yugen drew his two cards, then immediately played one. "Spell Card: Pot of Greed. I draw two more cards."
Damon was stunned. "Is that the same card that was stolen by Draw Thief's effect and shuffled back!?"
He was becoming more certain that his eyes hadn't deceived him. This person wasn't just strong in strategy and field control; his drawing ability was equally formidable. This was exactly the kind of powerful opponent he craved!
Jaden wasn't surprised at all. He just laughed. "Told you. Yugen is a true duelist. This much is expected."
Syrus could only stare. "..."
True. To others, this was a top-tier performance, but by Jaden's standards, this was basically just a basic attack.
"Next, I activate Mezuki's effect from the Graveyard," Yugen said. "By banishing this card from the Graveyard, I can Special Summon one Zombie-Type monster from my Grave."
Damon frowned. "Another move from the Graveyard?"
"I banish Mezuki to resurrect Ryu Kokki!"
[Ryu Kokki: ATK 2400]
"As expected," Alexis smiled. "He's incredibly skilled, but he's not the type to pin the entire outcome on a single draw."
Ryu Kokki, reborn!
"Ryu Kokki, attack Berserk Gorilla!"
The fiery ape was powerless against the demon's assault. Despite its resistance, it was eventually overwhelmed and exploded into fragments.
[Damon: LP 4400 → LP 4000]
"Bubbleman, direct attack!"
Bubbleman raised the water cannon on his wrist, unleashing a barrage of bubbles. Damon crossed his arms to block, but the spray soaked him through.
[Damon: LP 4000 → LP 3200]
"Next, I set one monster in face-down Defense Position," Yugen continued. "Then, I activate the Quick-Play Spell, Spell Purification. By discarding one card, I destroy all Continuous Trap cards on the field."
He sent a card to the Graveyard.
"Miracle Draw is destroyed!"
Damon glanced at his shattered trap. "Hoh? You stopped my draw-OTK combo?"
"Furthermore, the card I discarded was the same one you used—the Spell Card, Card of Compensation. I draw two more cards."
Yugen drew again and smiled softly.
It was finally here. The ultimate combo he had been waiting for, the one that had been sleeping in his deck until now.
"I set two cards and end my turn."
