He knew he didn't have much time. If he didn't move, he would die here. And if there were more vampires nearby, watching, waiting, this would be the perfect time to strike. He was weak, and the girl was unprotected. All it would take was one final blow to finish them both.
And so, he forced another step. Then another.
He had no other choice.
More than anything, he knew he had to get Addison to safety.
Staggering to her side, he looked down at her sleeping face, pale, youthful, and strangely familiar. Her features were slightly different, her hair and eye color not quite what he remembered, but there was no mistaking it. He had seen this girl before, at the palace, and more often among the Border Patrol Team, patrolling the Royal Capital alongside a boy who always looked at her with stars in his eyes.
And now it all clicked.
This girl... she might be the princess.
