Xander rose from the chair he was sitting on without answering Charles's question. He walked towards the nervous child and sat on the bed, so that he was pretty much closer to him.
Xander looked at his son with a smile, feeling proud of the brave young man who, despite being nervous, still dared to ask.
He still remembered how Charles was unable to ask much when he got divorced from their mother. To be honest, if such a question had been asked back then, he wouldn't even know how to answer it, but time has changed.
Just like how he wanted Gloria to be brave, not just for herself but for all of them, he was brave as well.
Facing his curious son, whom he knew wasn't a child anymore, but even capable of doing what he couldn't at his age. He didn't want to hide what Charles could find out in the future.
Charles was his heir and the next patriarch. He didn't want his son to be estranged from Gloria, whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
