Chapter 186 - Yacht II

Chapter 183

Before hanging up, she had asked, "What are you even doing right now?"

"I'm on a yacht with some friends," I answered.

"Of course you are... wait, what??"

"I bought a yacht at the end of the year. I'm using it again now," I added casually.

"Wow, that is so cool! And what are you doing?"

"We're celebrating Paige's achievement. She solved the Poincaré Conjecture. It's one of the Millennium Prize Problems—unsolved for over a century. Solving it means Paige might win the Fields Medal. That's basically the Nobel Prize for mathematics," I explained.

"Can you stop comparing the Fields Medal to the Nobel Prize?" Sheldon whined, earning a stomp from Missy.

"Woow," Britney muttered. "Wait, and you didn't invite me??" she said in high pitch.

"You are in Europe, girl!" I reminded her. "I'm hanging up, this call is too expensive," I added, ending the call.

"Really? Too expensive? You could've come up with a better excuse," Regina said dryly, sitting across from me, arms crossed and a teasing smirk on her face.

"Especially while wearing a Richard Mille RM 001," Cher added.

"How do you know the name of my watch, Cher? It's not that famous. Richard released it just last year, and with very limited units. He's still building the brand," I said, a bit surprised.

"I read a lot of luxury magazines," she replied.

"If you used a fraction of that energy for school, you'd get straight A's," I joked.

"Not gonna happen," she said quietly, leaning toward me.

"Well, Pepper gifted it to me last year. I don't think it matches that well with formal clothes, but I liked wearing it with casual outfits," I said.

Pippa nodded. "It is a nice watch."

Cher leaned toward Regina and whispered, "Nice watch? That's a $135 grand exclusive nice watch!"

"Changing the subject—can you believe Brit used the 'bestie male friend' card against me?" I asked.

Regina thought for a moment before commenting, "Not totally unbelievable. Most of her male friends probably have... secondary intentions."

"Now that I think about it, Jake is besties with a bunch of girls," Cher noted, beginning to count. "Me, Regina, Sam... Carly is probably a tie between Jake and Freddie. Missy, Paige, and now Brit," she finished, holding up six fingers.

"Mine would be between Jake and Billy," Missy said, though her expression didn't quite match the idea of a tie.

I looked at Missy and said, "Yeah, Billy has his... difficulties. But you should take care of that friendship. He seems like someone you can count on (just not for anything that requires intelligence)."

"Mine would be between Jake and Sheldon. Zero competition," Paige declared.

"Hey, I don't need your friendship," Sheldon retorted.

Paige just rolled her eyes.

"Ours is still Ravi," Cara jumped into the conversation, referring to her and Pippa.

"Ravi? Who?" I asked.

Pippa pinched me, making a face.

"Who is Brit? I mean, we met her at the Halloween party and saw her again at the end-of-year party, but we didn't even see her face," Pip asked.

"That's true," Cara agreed, realizing they had never actually seen Brit's face.

"She was the one dressed as Spider-Woman at the end-of-year party," Sam explained to Miley and Lilly, who didn't seem to remember. They nodded, not thinking much of it.

"She is a good friend of mine. I met her in the middle of last year," I said, unfazed.

Pippa was still looking at me

"She's a nice girl. But she doesn't think of Jake in that way," Cher chimed in. Regina was nodding beside her

"But is she cute?" Pippa asked me with an amused face.

"No," I answered instantly.

I could feel a few glares aimed at me. Pippa was making a face like she didn't believe me at all.

"I'm telling the truth, she's not cute," I protested, "but she is very sexy and beautiful," I added with a straight face.

"Pippa, you need to give points to Jake for saying that with a straight face," Carly said, deadpan.

Carly, you're going to freeze your face if you keep going deadpan all the time...

"But that's been his face since I met him," Pippa pointed out. "I met him already shameless since day one," she added.

Many laughed (only Sheldon looked clueless)

I put my hand over my heart and looked around. "Where are my besties to defend me??"

"If it makes you feel any better, he was already like that when we met him more than a year ago," Sam said.

"How is that a defense in my case, Sam?" I asked indignantly, throwing my arms open.

Everyone laughed again.

"How about karaoke?" Carly suggested, trying to change the subject

"Yes!" I said louder. "Carly, Sam, and Freddie, let's do that song we rehearsed."

Everyone gathered on the sofa in front of a large television. Paige was already loading the CD with the instrumental tracks.

Then the four of us stepped up, each with an old microphone on a stand. I was wearing a wig with very straight black hair and a ridiculous little black goatee. Carly, Sam, and Freddie were dressed in old green outfits with rounded caps that looked like something an old-fashioned jockey would wear.

"Thank God Jake didn't ask us to join," Regina whispered to Cher, receiving a nod as they looked at how we were dressed.

Paige pressed play and the music started. I began singing right after:

Hey ya! (Outkast)

♪One, two, three, four, go!♪

♪My baby don't mess around

Because she loves me so

And this I know for sure♪

♪But does she really wanna?

But can't stand to see me

Walk out the door♪

I was doing some exagerated moviments while singing

♪Don't try to fight the feeling

'Cause the thought alone

Is killin' me right now♪

♪Thank God for mom and dad

For sticking two together

'Cause we don't know how♪

Then Carly, Sam, and Freddie started singing while swinging their arms forward and shaking:

♪Hey ya! Hey ya! Hey ya!

Hey ya! Hey ya! Hey ya!

 Hey ya! Hey ya!♪

One by one, the girls started getting up and dancing to the rhythm (only Sheldon remained seated, looking incredulous)

♪You think you've got it

Oh, you think you've got it

But got it just don't get it

'Til there's nothing at all♪

♪...♪

When we finished singing, everyone clapped and laughed.

"How did you get it, Jake?" asked Miley. "You four look like dorks, especially you. But I think the song was super cool and somehow the performance too..."

I placed my hand on Miley's shoulder and said, "I thought, if Hannah can be famous wearing those outdated fashion clothes and catchy music, I could do it too!" I finished with a smile.

Miley responded with a half-smile and half-clenched teeth.
