Chapter 188 - Study Group

Chapter 185

Another day after the whole husband fiasco, Missy was calling,

"Hey Jake."

"Hello Missy, what's up?" I answered.

"I need a favor. Well, actually, Miley does. She needs help with her biology test," she explained.

"Hmm..." I paused, thinking.

"Come on, Jake, please. I will tell you some gossip" Missy negotiated

"Alright, I'm not doing anything, and she's basically my neighbor. I'll change and head over," I agreed.

"Great! I'm almost there."

---

"Hey girls," I greeted as I stepped through the open door.

"What's the rich guy doing here?" Miley asked, frowning slightly.

"Paige couldn't make it, and you met my brother at the yacht party—you really wouldn't want him teaching you," Missy pointed out.

"Yeah, he seemed kind of stuck-up," Lilly added.

"Kind of?" Missy scoffed. "And Jake's the third smartest person I know."

"Only because the other two are freaks," I chimed in.

"Don't call Paige that. My brother, though, totally fair," Missy replied.

"Wait, doesn't Jake just sleep through class? Or was that a joke?" Lilly asked, remembering something from the year-end party.

"He does. But he skipped two years and still only gets A+," Missy clarified.

"Gossip girl, say whaat?" Miley blinked.

"Surprised?" I replied with a smug grin.

She gave me a skeptical look.

Just then, her dad walked in.

"Hey, I know you," I said, squinting.

"You do?" he asked, clearly flattered.

"You're the plumber guy who came to my house, right?"

The girls burst into laughter.

"Plumber guy?" Robby's eye twitched.

"Sorry, my mistake," I backed away quickly.

"I don't like him," Robby muttered.

"Welcome to the club," Miley echoed.

---

Inside Miley's room

"Wow, didn't take you for a groupie..." I said, eyeing all the Marshmello merch and posters.

"It's Marshmello!" she said, like that explained everything.

"You planned this," I whispered to Missy. (She was the one who suggested we study at Miley's room. With two other girls around, her dad didn't question it.)

"You're not the only one who wants a little fun," she whispered back with a grin.

Lilly hung up her phone and turned to us. "Oliver's not coming."

"Oliver?" I echoed.

"You haven't met him yet. He's our friend. He missed your party—bad cold. He really felt bad about it," she explained.

"And he felt bad for skipping your birthday too, Miley," Lilly added quickly

Miley rolled her eyes. "Jake's party was amazing," she agreed. "The owner..." she whispered to Lilly, who gave her a discreet pinch.

I turned to Miley and got a fake smile (Yeah, thank God you can sing. Acting isn't your thing...)

---

The four of us sat around a small table as Lilly and Miley took out their biology books.

"I'm just here for moral support," Missy admitted. "I'm barely passing my own class (8th grade)."

Lilly patted her back.

Miley flipped to the 9th-grade biology chapter, already looking overwhelmed.

"Pass me the book for a sec," I said, reaching for it. "Let me see what's on the test."

She handed it over silently, still visibly tense. I skimmed through the pages.

"Same material I covered last year," I said. "Schools vary a bit, but it's mostly the same for us."

"Wait—you're a sophomore? So you're 14??" Miley asked, stunned.

"Yes. What did you think?" I shrugged.

"I thought you were 16, a year older than me."

"All the friends you met on the yacht are sophomores—they're either in my class or my school, except for Paige and Missy," I explained.

"Seriously?" Miley blinked. "Carly, Sam, and Freddie seem younger. Regina, Cher, and Cara look older. Pippa is the only one who actually looks like a sophomore."

Yeah, probably because it's a mash-up of different shows—ages and personalities don't always match up. Missy and Paige don't look like 13-year-old girls... they could easily pass for two or three years older.

"Do you know how to cook, Jake?" Lilly asked.

I looked at her, confused. "That came out of nowhere."

"You're rich, smart, cute, and you sing very well. I'm just wondering if you're one of those guys who can do everything," she explained.

"I know how to grill... and make scrambled eggs," I replied.

"So, no," Miley commented.

"Hey, making a good steak is all that matters. Besides, I have a chief" I protested.

"Say what?" Lilly exclaimed

"Why the shock? I own a yacht," I reminded her.

"Yeah, he even has someone to take care of his dogs. And another person just for his aquarium," Missy chimed in.

"What???" Miley and Lilly shouted in unison.

"How rich are you?" Miley gasped.

"I have enough," I said.

Missy jumped back into the conversation. "He's bad at sports. He used to be the last one picked."

"That was in the past. Now I'm third from the bottom," I countered.

Even though my physique easily beats most of my classmates (soon the six-pack abs will be real), I'm still average at most sports. Really, where are the fat kids? I only know Gibby, and he's not even in my class.

And what is so great about been good at sports? I'm the owner of a team, way cooler.

"He's just like Miley," Lilly laughed.

"Lilly!" Miley snapped, shooting her a glare.

"She is even picked after the nerdy environmental girl," Missy added.

I burst out laughing.

"Missy!" Miley hissed through clenched teeth. "We need to stop gossiping with you..."

"Don't," said Missy. "I've got a good one..." and Miley and Lilly immediately leaned in, eager to hear. The three of them spent some time whispering and laughing together.

I had an amused look and said after, "Okay, you three, do you want to study or not?"

Miley widened her eyes and flew toward the books.
