Chapter 66: Battling Sabrina
Hearing Haunter's cry, Ash took a Poké Ball from his pocket. While throwing it towards Haunter, he shouted loudly, "Charmander! I choose you!"
After the Poké Ball landed, a cute Charmander appeared before Ash.
Brock watched this scene, then looked at the remaining four Ghost Pokémon. He then said to them, "You can all attack together!"
As soon as Brock finished speaking, he took several Poké Balls from his person and threw them all out together.
Subsequently, Meowth, Golbat, and Squirtle appeared before Brock. Brock looked at Meowth and the others and said, "Go pick your opponents!" Hearing Brock's command, Meowth, Golbat, and Squirtle ran over in front of the Ghost Pokémon and chose their opponents.
Seeing this, Brock reached into his pocket again and felt a slip of paper. Seeing this paper, he remembered it was the psychic power he had bought a few days ago.
Just then, Brock thought, I haven't used the psychic power yet! I wonder if it's any good? So, Brock tore up the slip of paper. A surge of power then entered Brock's body. Just then, Brock felt his body but didn't notice anything special. Thinking this, he worried, Could the system have tricked me?! There's absolutely no psychic power here! But as soon as Brock finished thinking "psychic power", all the lights inside the tower turned on.
The lights illuminated the entire tower. Brock looked at the scene before him and was stunned. Standing all around Brock and Ash were densely packed Pokémon, and they were all Ghost-types! Snapping back to his senses, Brock noticed his Charmeleon was still spacing out; it hadn't gone to find an opponent.
Brock saw that in the area previously illuminated, a Gengar was still there. So, Brock commanded Charmeleon, "Charmeleon! Go battle that Gengar!" After speaking, Brock pointed his finger at the Gengar for Charmeleon to see.
Seeing this, Charmeleon quickly ran over in front of Gengar and engaged it in battle.
Seeing the dense crowd of other Pokémon still surrounding them, Brock shouted loudly at them, "All you Pokémon, get out of here! Otherwise, don't blame me for not being polite!" As soon as Brock finished speaking, he stared intently at the ground. Shortly after, a wooden plank from the floor floated into the air.
Those Ghost-type Pokémon who hadn't seen much of the world, upon seeing this scene created by Brock, frantically ran away. However, many Ghost-type Pokémon still remained around Brock.
Seeing many Ghost-type Pokémon still remained, Brock realized he couldn't scare them all away, and his psychic power was also ineffective against them. He had no other way. Might as well just pretend I don't see them!
Subsequently, Brock looked towards the direction of the battles. He saw Ash's Charmander battling Haunter, Meowth battling Misdreavus, Golbat battling Mismagius, Squirtle battling Gastly, and Charmeleon battling Gengar.
Seeing this, Brock walked over beside Charmeleon, then commanded it, "Charmeleon! Use Flamethrower to attack Gengar!"
Hearing Brock, Charmeleon spewed a stream of fire from its mouth, attacking towards Gengar's direction.
Gengar saw the flames coming towards it and wanted to dodge. Subsequently, Gengar turned invisible. The stream of fire hit nothing. Seeing this, Brock closed his eyes and used his psychic power to sense Gengar's location. Shortly after, Brock pinpointed Gengar's position, then whispered Gengar's location quietly into Charmeleon's ear.
Hearing Brock's words, Charmeleon spewed a Fire Spin from its mouth, attacking in a specific direction. Gengar, seeing the flames coming towards its direction, thought Charmeleon didn't know its position, so it didn't dodge. Shortly after, Gengar was struck by Charmeleon's Fire Spin and became trapped within the vortex.
After a few minutes, the Fire Spin disappeared. Brock looked at the spot where the Fire Spin had vanished and saw Gengar lying there. Seeing this scene, Brock realized it was a good opportunity. He took an empty Poké Ball from his person, threw it towards Gengar, and the Poké Ball subsequently hit Gengar. Just like that, Gengar was sucked into the Poké Ball, which then fell to the ground.
Brock saw the Poké Ball had contained Gengar. He stared intently at the Poké Ball, watching its light flash. Just then, a force seemed to spread around the Poké Ball. Subsequently, the Poké Ball started shaking on the ground, as if the Pokémon inside might break out at any moment.
Seeing this, Brock stared even more intently at the Poké Ball. Then, the energy around the Poké Ball seemed to thicken. Subsequently, the Poké Ball went 'ding!'. Just like that, Gengar was captured by Brock! Due to using too much psychic power, Brock felt very tired and sat down on the ground to rest.
Because Brock didn't immediately state he wanted to swap Gengar into his party, Gengar was thus transferred back to Brock's home.
Brock rested for a little while. He then went over to where Meowth was battling. He saw Meowth was close to defeating Gastly. Brock didn't command him further, letting Meowth battle freely.
Shortly after, both Meowth and Gastly fainted simultaneously. Seeing this, Brock recalled Meowth into its Poké Ball, then used an empty Poké Ball to capture the Gastly on the ground. After capturing Gastly, Brock transferred it home, then headed towards Golbat's location.
Reaching Golbat's side, Brock saw Mismagius had already fainted. After observing this, Brock recalled Golbat into its Poké Ball, then used an empty Poké Ball to capture Mismagius, and then transferred Mismagius home.
After capturing Mismagius, Brock next headed towards Squirtle's direction. Reaching Squirtle's side, he saw both Misdreavus and Squirtle had lost their stamina and were lying on the ground. Seeing this, Brock recalled Squirtle into its Poké Ball, then used an empty Poké Ball to capture Misdreavus, and then transferred Misdreavus home.
Just as Brock finished capturing Misdreavus, a voice called out, "Brock! Did you capture them?"
Brock turned his head and saw Ash walking towards him. Seeing Ash, Brock nodded, then asked, "Ash, then did you capture Haunter?"
Hearing Brock, Ash took out a Poké Ball and said, "Of course I captured Haunter!"
Seeing Ash had captured Haunter, Brock didn't say anything further. The remaining Ghost-type Pokémon around Brock and Ash, seeing Brock capture their leaders, got scared and ran away.
After watching this, Brock didn't say anything more and walked towards the outside of the tower with Ash. Shortly after, Brock and Ash – along with Pikachu, of course – reached the outside of the tower together. They saw Misty, Daisy, and Melanie sitting chatting in a circle.
Brock and Ash walked over, and Brock asked Misty and the others, "Misty! Melanie! Daisy! What are you three chatting about?"
Hearing Brock, Misty and the others looked together towards Brock and saw Brock and Ash had come out. Misty asked curiously, "Did you guys catch any Ghost-type Pokémon or not?"
Ash, nearby, heard Misty's question, took out a Poké Ball, and said to Misty, "I caught Haunter!" As soon as he finished speaking, he turned his hat backwards, flashed a peace sign at Misty, and struck his corny pose again.
Seeing this, Brock gently slapped his forehead, then muttered quietly, "I don't know this guy..."
After Ash finished striking his pose, Brock finally couldn't stand it anymore and suggested to Ash and the others, "Ash has a Ghost-type Pokémon now! This means we can go battle Sabrina!"
Hearing Brock, Ash got fired up and declared, "Brock's right! Let's head for Saffron City!" As soon as Ash finished speaking, he started walking in the direction of Saffron City.
Seeing this, Brock thought, Finally! I don't have to look at that corny pose anymore! Having thought this, Brock also followed Ash towards Saffron City, completely disregarding the fact that it was already evening. Misty and the others saw this and followed along without a second thought.
Brock's group walked for an unknown amount of time until they reached the entrance to Saffron City. Seeing Saffron City ahead, Brock asked Ash, "Ash... are you sure you can beat Sabrina this time?"
