Chapter 4 - Fever Dream

Of course, living a live that is peaceful and silent was too much for what I had asked for. It seems like no matter how much I like to deny tonight, it felt like a fever dream. It felt like yesterday i was still cuddling my pillow in the warmth of my room thinking about going to library tomorrow, but now here I am walking back with seven deadly predators who could drain my blood any second.

The city felt different under the weight of their stares. I had the pleasure of walking these streets a hundred times, yet tonight it felt like a burden had been given every single time I had walk each stepped towards a destination that not even I know existed. Under the glow of neon sign and flickering streetlights that seem oddly familiar, now everything felt so foreign and scary - it felt like a dream teetering on the edge of a continuous nightmare. The seven figures around me moved with an unnatural grace, their presence casting long shadows that danced along the pavement.

Funny, to think that if they weren't children of the night, they looked like a bunch of college frats ready to get drunk for the night. I notice their tiny old banters, and conclude that they were much likely boys - well an old soul stuck in the body of grown men.

"Where are we going?" I finally asked, breaking the silence between them.

"Somewhere safe."

"Define safe."

Someone snorted behind me and I looked back to see one of them walking a bit slower beside me. "Safe means not dead. At least for now."

Marco had said 'they' would come for whatever reason is that. At first I thought he was just bluffing but seeing that they were ready to hold onto me if I did try to run, it seems like they were dead serious.

Aaron - who you knew because Jullian had called his name in their conversation—led the way through the empty alleyways, his broad shoulders tense, scanning every corner as if expecting an ambush. Hendery - another of the bunch - walked beside him, hands stuffed into his pockets, whistling an eerie tune as if this were nothing more than a midnight stroll. But those things were not as scary as I thought, despite not understanding what is happening it seems all seem familiar.

That is until I heard an disclose conversation between Cerius and the ever so quiet Jenkins beside him, both of them whispering with low hushed voiced—realizing that vampires don't communicate with their mind apparently, another broken theories for those deadly creatures —words like unmarked and too late.

"For a 'human' your taking it too well," Juan asked sarcastically - one of the most sarcastic and annoying vampire I thought to ever existed. "I almost believe that you were natural born in this world."

"Take a guess, you might be surprised."

"You have?" Marco ask and yes he was a bit surprise.

"I don't have obligation to tell you a yes or no."

"Well you need to princess, because it might save us some time from trying to figure out whose out to kill you," that velvet voice rang in my ears and I saw him in front walking around with another.

Marco pat your shoulders, "Now, you can trust us, I know it seems crazy, but we'll tell you to about our world."

"Your world."

"If it makes you feel better, being involve with us means you're apart of our world now," Cerius chipped in, "I know it feels like it's unfair, but to be honest, we didn't think you would find the book if you weren't the one, you wouldn't be interested."

"You were the one who put the book, didn't you," I pointed my finger at a smiling Cerius and he nodded his head enthusiastically. Right, if it wasn't for that damn book I found, curiosity surely wouldn't kill the cat. The book draws energy that attracted me in a way I couldn't explain, and mysteriously appear in front of me while I was searching for books to study.

"Guilty, but hey! Now you get seven awesome vampires in your life."

"I don't think it's worth a celebration."

"No, it isn't but think of us a guardian for now," Marco calmly say, "For whatever is going to happened you'll need us for now, until we can figure out what's going on."

"And what is exactly happening? You've given me no point to understand this situation, tell me one good reason why I shouldn't scream bloody murder?"

I glanced at them who was now oddly quiet. That is until Jullian's met my gaze and with a slow, almost lazy smile. "You should be asking the real question."

"Which is?"

"Why you?" His voice was smooth, edged with something unreadable. "Why are we risking our necks for some university girl?"

"I was hoping you'd tell me." I swallowed hard, "As far as you are correct, I am just a normal girl." Jullian just smiled wider, but Marco cut in before he could answer.

"Because you're not just some university girl," Marco said. "You're part of this. Whether you want to be or not."

Oh, now it's getting annoying don't you think? A part of something that I didn't want to be in it and they are not willing to spill any. No one answered. We all stopped in front of a seemingly abandoned building, its windows boarded up, the door covered in layers of graffiti. Without hesitation, they pushed open revealing a darkened staircase leading underground.

"In," he ordered.

"If you think I'm going inside you are all crazy! What makes you think I just willingly follow?" I asked, and Juan stepped forward before leaning in front of me, his scarily dark red hue eyes and a toothy grin canines showed glistering in the midnight dark.

"Because you and I both know, you've gone this far to keep that little secret you had all your life, and you want answers, don't you? We're your best chances in gaining the truth."

And he awfully right. Every fiber in my being is screaming how stupid I could be to just follow a bunch of real life vampires who I thought was just mythical creatures, but for whatever happened years ago, you owe a lot of people at least the truth and maybe an understand of what they've been protecting you before.

So of course, being the person I am, I followed them.
