Thump! Devin fell to his knees, the cold, hard floor pressing against him. Despair marred his face, his crimson eyes reflecting Darcey's still figure. "She's dead, I killed her…" he uttered, the prosecutor's words echoing in his mind. "Out of your twisted love for your sister, you decided to kill her…"
He looked up, staring at the white ceiling. "What am I doing here…"
"The Pope, I was killing the Pope, not…" He turned back to Darcey, her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood. "Her…" He looked down at his clean pale hands, no, these bloody hands. Bloodied from all his victims. He was no human.
Monster. Monster. Monster. Monster. MONSTER! MONSTER! MONSTER! MONSTER! MONSTER! HE WAS A MONSTER!!!
Devin's breathing grew erratic as he gave in to what he truly was. A monster free from his sister's love, and just in time too…
"Why don't you go remind the kids how much of a damn failure I am again!?" his father's voice roared, followed by the sound of shattering glass. Devin's crimson eyes burned with an eerie darkness.
"Why don't you stop spending every cent we have on that whore of yours!?" his mother's voice shrieked. Devin stood up, the room spinning around him. He raised his hand to his face, wisps of black smoke forming within it, transforming into his dark dagger. His reflection grinned darkly on the dagger's blade.
He stepped over the low table, walking out the door, leaving it open…
Creak… He creaked down the hallway, making his way to the kitchen.
"Devin, what are you doing here?" His mother asked, standing behind the countertop with Cole beside her. Her long black hair unkempt as always, her tired blue eyes looking at him with an expression foreign to him. Was it, concern?
Cole, paler than even Devin, with his grey goatee dry with the scent of beer, said, "Devin, go to your room, grown folks are-" He stopped, something feeling off about his son.
Devin stood there, the dark dagger by his side. He smiled, his pearly white teeth on display, sending a shiver down his parents' spines. He gripped the dark dagger and jumped over the countertop, onto Cole.
Thud! Devin dropped him to the kitchen floor. He raised his blade and struck at Cole. Cole held his hands up, pushing him back.
"Wait, stop!" Diane shrieked, doing her best to pull Devin off him.
Cole's left hand shook weakly as the blade came closer to his face under Devin's pressure. The tip looked extremely deadly through his black eyes.
"Haha!" Devin chuckled before head-butting the handle. Thud! The force pushed through all resistance and drove the blade through Cole's skull with a crack!
He died instantly, much to Diane's dismay. Blood leaked out of the wound, running down her husband's dead face, the metallic scent filling the air.
"What did you do, Devin?" She slowly turned to see his face, and what she saw made her shiver involuntarily. Devin's crimson eyes regarded her coldly. She was next.
Diane stood up and ran past him, but he caught her foot. Thud! Her inertia dropped her to the floor, the impact jolting through her body as Devin got on top of her.
"Devin, wait! Wait! You can't do this!" She struggled, her voice trembling, as Devin wrapped his hands around her neck, his grip tightening.
"Wait, Devin! Look at me. Please, look at me, sweetie." She spoke softly, desperation in her voice, as she grabbed Devin's hands. Devin stopped, looking into her deep, tear-filled blue eyes. Diane appealed to his heart. "I'm your mother, Devin. You did nothing wrong, okay? Daddy was awful, and now he's gone. You, me, and Darcey. We can be a happy family again."
Devin stood in a daze, his hands around her neck. Then the corners of his lips curled into a sinister smile.
"Ha..."
"Ha!" He squeezed harder, siphoning the air out of his mother's lungs.
"Hahahahaha!"
"Ur- Dev- in…" Diane tried gasping for air, calling out to him, her voice barely a whisper.
"Hahahahaha!" Devin kept cackling, his mother's blue eyes reflecting his twisted glee. "I'm-" She weakly raised her hand to his face. Behind the anger, behind the hate, she saw someone in pain, broken by her actions or lack thereof. Smiling warmly, she gently caressed his face, leaving him her parting words.
"Sorry-"
Crack!
Devin sat stunned, witnessing his mom's hand fall limp.
'Sorry?' Devin tilted his head in confusion, getting up from his mom's corpse.
Snap! A resounding, crisp snap dropped Devin to his knees. His vision blurred as blood ran down his nose. All around him, the room, no, everything cracked. The tears spreading all around, the jarring sound piercing through Devin's skull, making him cover his ears. His consciousness faded as his head fell with a dull thud on Diane's body.
