Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Baby Kangaskhan Got Scolded

Baby Kangaskhan felt bad for Anthony, whom it knew as someone not-so-hard working, to do so much in a day. After all, Baby Kangaskhan and its mother were caught so that Anthony would have another mother figure and a little sibling, so Baby Kangaskhan is the closest Pokémon to Anthony besides Charizard.

And as a Pokémon, creatures of great intelligence, baby Kangaskhan knew that this spurt of motivation from his friend, Anthony, was for him to have his first Pokémon, as his mother wanted him to forge his own path and not just be "Son of Hana and Ben Dover who was given a Charmander on his birthday".

Baby Kangaskhan's trainer and her husband wanted their son to be Anthony Dover, and the first step of such is letting their son capture his very first Pokémon instead of just gifting it to him.

Baby Kangaskhan wondered how can it could help its friend who was working hard. Putting its little paw-like hooves on its chin, Baby Kangaskhan started to walk towards the berry bushes in trees, in them are Caterpies, Weedles, Wurmples, as well as Zubats, and on top of the trees are some Pidgeys who wanted to score a berry or a bug type.

At this moment, the Zubats are just settling in trees, waiting for the day pokemons to sleep and for their true domain to appear. Kangaskhan stared at its fellow pokemons of it.

_Maybe I can gift one of them to Anthony..._

Kangaskhan wondered as he continued to observe the Zubats flying around. Baby Kangaskhan then looked around and saw that old man Venusaur is playing around with Caterpies while Scizor is nowhere to be seen, probably in front of the house again, as it seems to have taken upon itself to be the guard of the house while Baby Kangaskhan's uncle Charizard is currently also gone, seemingly flying with its child and Squirtle.

Baby Kangaskhan smiled at this, but only Mom Kangaskhan, who was already asleep because of its long day surfing for its master's child, was present. Baby Kangaskhan raised its hand in the middle of Zubats flying around.

_____________

After dinner, Anthony was asked by Hana to look for night pokemons at around 8 pm because that's the time when the Zubats and other occasional nighttime pokemons will finally settle to silently eat berries. At this period, Anthony decided to go back to his room in order to start a refresher course for the laws and ethics of the world of Pokémon while also starting his studies for the characteristics of all pokemons, of course, starting in the Indigo League and going for the Hoenn region later on.

However, just when Anthony was about to go back to his room, a cry, pained and miserable, resounded in their mini farm.

"ZUUUUUU!"

This cry was immediately accompanied by scattered flapping of wings as well as cries of the gargantuan creatures outside the house. Anthony immediately put down all of his plans and ran towards the mini farm's entrance.

"What was that!?"

Anthony's mom had already arrived at the site of the sound, looking at the baby Kangaskhan who was holding a Zubat with both its hands, confused as if not knowing why it was currently being surrounded by its uncles and mom as well and its trainer.

"Why did you hit it!?"

Hana, Anthony's mom, berated Baby Kangaskhan, much to the dismay of Baby Kangaskhan; however, when it saw Anthony, its eyes beamed with happiness, and it ran towards him with the wheezing Zubat still in its hands.

"Kaaang!"

The adult Pokémon and human at the back of Baby Kangaskhan stared at the scene where Anthony was presented with an injured Zubat.

Anthony immediately understood the meaning of such a gesture. Apparently, Baby Kangaskhan, who's very close to Anthony as they are of the same height, and because Anthony's mom introduced each other's acquaintance doesn't want Anthony to have any hard time in getting pokemons, so he took it upon itself to help Anthony catch a partner.

At such a realization, Anthony's frown lessened, and he decided to let the berating be done by the adult pokemons and his mom. He accepted the Zubat and said.

"You shouldn't injure pokemons easily, Kangaskhan. If I just wanted to do this and force them to be my partner, then I wouldn't prepare extensively to capture them."

Like Anthony said, wild pokemon battles exists to preserve the dignity of the pokemon and so that the wild pokemon can test their potential trainer if they are worthy, meaning it should be done with consent (though consent is like if a pokemon jumped in front of a trainer's path) or at least the unspoken rule of not using a large pokemon to catch them.

"Kaa..."

The Baby Kangaskhan, upon seeing the saddened expression of its friend, finally realized its mistake, and now feeling guilty, it felt saddened too. Hana then went storming back to the house and said:

"You 4 over there, I have no time to lecture the kid, do it yourselves. Anthony, do a temporary splint after spraying the wings of the Zubat with the potion in the storage, make it whole body while the splint is just on the injured wing."

Anthony nodded before walking towards the living room. Hana also did so and took hold of her purse.

"Make sure to do it fast, I don't have small pokemon like before, so our bandages are enormous... I will make a dash to the pokemon mart."

Anthony wanted to suggest getting to the back of Charizard, but the branch of the mart in the periphery of Fuchsia City is not that far from their house, so Anthony immediately did as he was told, getting a barbecue stick from their kitchen and ripping off a long part of his shirt while going to the storage.

Time is of the essence, so he doesn't have any luxury to think of his appearance. After procuring all of the materials needed, Anthony immediately started the procedure.

"Zuu... Zuuu...."

The Zubat whimpered, pain was evident in its every cry, and if not for the fact that it doesn't have eyes, Anthony is sure that the Pokémon would have already cried. Anthony shook the potion immediately and slowly sprayed it all over the Zubat's body.

"It will be fine soon... it will be fine..."

Anthony coaxed, now feeling how burdensome it is to be a trainer, to see your Pokémon losing, sustaining injuries after years of hard work. However, he doesn't need nor have the time to think of such a thing. Slowly, he flipped the weakening Zubat over gently and sprayed the potion on its backside.

After that, Anthony measured the barbecue stick, cut it to fit the length of Zubat's left wing, the injured part.

"ZUU! ZUU!"

As Anthony tightened the splint to the injured part, the pain in Zubat's voice became apparent; however, Anthony gritted his teeth before finally hearing the Pokémon stop its whimper.

_I don't know how well the potion will act up on severe injuries like this, the left ribcage of Zubat seems to also be destroyed, however, with how mom didn't dash to the Pokémon Center immediately, this much should be fine..._

As Anthony was thinking of such while using his remaining clothes to wipe the sweat of Zubat all over its body, the door at their entrance banged, and appeared a wheezing Hana with a modified 8-degree fold bandage, it was a medical wonder in the pokemon world that has the features of a full restore and is tailored to the size of small flying types like Zubat.

Hana immediately disassembled the first aid, which again made Anthony marvel at the wonders of the potion, because even though Zubat was still whimpering silently, it wasn't as intense as before, and the disturbed expression on its face was almost gone.

Hana wrapped the modified bandage around the body of Zubat while unfurling both of its wings and wrapping the bandage around them too. And after again spraying some potion on Zubat, Hana sighed in relief.

"Thanks to medical advancements, Zubat will be able to recover in 5 days. At that period, I want you to use a dropper and let it drink in small amounts a potion every 4 hours. You can't catch a Pokémon at that time, and you should always be at Zubat's side so you can tend to its needs. You also need to feed it."

Anthony nodded, though he couldn't help but ask.

"Do we have to put Zubat in a Pokémon Center?"

Hana shook her head at such an inquiry.

"No, this treatment should be fine for now. Perhaps you can practice taking care of pokemons this way."

Hana then pulled out her phone, set up the alarm for five hours, and gave it to Anthony, who wore a nervous and determined expression.

"Don't worry, I will monitor the situation too."

After which, she went to the mini-farm, it seems like it's her turn to berate the baby Kangaskhan.

_It really messed up big time on that one, huh.._

Such were the words of Anthony in his mind before quickly going to his room for a moment to pick up a book that was already in his bed. It was his refresher course in the code of ethics of the Pokémon world, and some laws and regulations that keep the league and trainer community intact.

This is so that he can multitask, for it's not like the potion or the Zubat is weak, so Anthony doesn't need to go and watch it with its eyes wide open 24/7. Also, Anthony, as an adult inside, was able to know the true intentions of his mom by not making Zubat go to a Pokémon Center.

_Adults... really can see things realistically huh, even though she's shouting outside and made the Pokemons silent because of her voice, she knew that this is the best way to give me a partner, though she still tested my ability to take care of it and it still depends on that if I will be allowed to keep it..._

Anthony pondered on this fact as he sat down beside the makeshift bed of the injured Zubat.

_A Zubat is not so bad, if ever, it will make me be able to easily navigate my way into unknown places by using its echolocation, though I need to train it more in the physical department, and also maintain the potency of its poisons to become strong, I would not complain if I ever got a Zubat._

Anthony stopped thinking about such things and decided to focus on his refresher course. He opened the book and, while silently paying attention to the condition of Zubat, started to read. It took him a surprising 4 and a half or perhaps more hours before reading the entire book.

_The code of ethics has a lot of things that should be common sense and are being remembered by the original Anthony, though what I'm interested in is the fact that the existence of poachers who "capture pokemons" all over the world is considered illegal._

_This is because of a law that restricts the selling of Pokémon except for individuals designated by the league, such as retired strong trainers like Anthony's mom, as well as laboratories and Breeder grounds. Meaning daycares, unless otherwise amended by the law, can only temporarily take care of pokemons and can't create money from Pokémon eggs._

Anthony also got refreshed on the law that doesn't allow him to acquire a starter; the law has a lot of iterations and forthwith, and all of that, but if Anthony is to summarize, it would go like this:

According to the League Act Number 7612, or the Starter Pokémon System Centralization Act. All trainers shall have a starter Pokémon at the age of 10.

This law disqualifies Coordinators, Breeders, and Field Researcher aspirants as recipients of the starters, as well as children who have any means to gift or trade pokemons, lastly, individuals who accidentally bonded with a Pokémon will automatically not qualify for the Pokémon starter choice.

According to the Code of Ethics of the Pokémon world, all gifts and trades done regarding pokemons shall be overseen by the Pokémon professor only; this will automatically make the Pokémon gifted or traded to be registered as starters of the individuals.

Starters have to be registered before their journey so as not to let children go on their journey unprotected.

The starters are reserved for children that has lower socioeconomic status and might not have any means to acquire a Pokémon except through the starter system.

A child is not allowed to officially own a Pokémon until they're 10, meaning the child's bond with Pokémon will only be officially registered by the professor if they become an official trainer at the age of 10, though training pokemons at a young age for protection is not forbidden.

This is a way to level the playing field for both socioeconomic parties.

Just when Anthony was about to get ready to administer the medicine to the Zubat, he heard footsteps coming from the direction of the mini farm.

"Kaa..."

It was the baby Kangaskhan, and in its hands were berries, seemingly an apology gift for Zubat.
