Chapter 3 - The Journey

Axura boarded a flight to the destination country, his mind focused on the mission ahead. He had to be careful and precise, and he knew that every detail mattered.

As he traveled, Axura went over his plan again and again, thinking about every possible scenario and contingency. He knew the target would be heavily guarded, and he would need to be quick and stealthy to get the job done.

When he arrived at his destination, Axura made his way to his hotel room, where he had arranged to meet with a local contact. The contact, a woman named Nadia, was already there, waiting for him.

"Welcome, Axura," she said, her eyes scanning him briefly before she handed him a folder, Axura wore a black joggers, grey hoodie and black mask. "Everything you need to know is in here. The target's schedule, the security detail, everything."

Axura nodded, taking the folder and beginning to scan its contents. He was impressed with the level of detail Nadia had provided.

"Thank you, Nadia," he said. "This is excellent work."

Nadia smiled, a small smile. "I'm glad I could help. You have a reputation for being one of the best, Axura. I'm happy to be working with you."

Axura nodded, his eyes still scanning the folder. He knew he had a tough job ahead of him, but he was confident in his abilities. He would get the job done, no matter what. Marcus would be holding a charity gala at his house which was to take place in two days time

Axura spent the next two days gathering more information and refining his plan. He knew the charity gala would be a high-security event, but he was confident in his abilities to get in and out undetected.

Axura had managed to obtain an invitation to the charity gala through his network of contacts. He had created a fake identity for himself, complete with a new name, background, and credentials. But he still had to put his name on the guest list, so he hacked into the event's database thereby allowing him to add his name "Ethan Blackwood" which was the fake name he had created along with the fake identity which portrayed him as a businessman man and philanthropist

On the night of the gala, Axura put on a tuxedo and prothestic mask completely changing his face, and blended in with the other guests. He made his way through the crowds, his eyes scanning the room for the target.

As he moved through the room, Axura's training kicked in, and he became one with the crowd. He was just another face in the sea of guests, but he was watching and waiting.

Suddenly, he saw the target, standing near the bar. Axura's eyes locked onto him, and he began to move through the crowd, his movements smooth and calculated.

Axura was just about to reach the target's side when he was intercepted by a woman with a bright smile and piercing green eyes. "Hi, I'm Sophia," she said, extending her hand. "I couldn't help but notice you're standing here alone. Would you like to join me for a drink?"

Axura's instincts told him to politely decline and continue with his mission, but Sophia's charming demeanor put him at ease. "I'm Ethan Blackwood," he replied, taking her hand. "And I'd love to join you for a drink."

As they walked to the bar, Sophia asked Axura about his interests and hobbies. Axura played along, effortlessly adopting the persona of Ethan Blackwood. But his mind was still focused on the task at hand, and he found himself glancing around the room, searching for an opportunity to excuse himself.

Sophia, however, seemed determined to keep him engaged. "So, Ethan, what do you think about the charity work being done here tonight?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with genuine interest.

Axura smiled, playing the part. "I think it's fantastic. I'm a big supporter of this cause." But inwardly, he was calculating the risks and opportunities.

Axura tried to extricate himself from the conversation, smiling apologetically at Sophia. "I'm so sorry, Sophia, but I just saw someone I need to catch up with. It was lovely talking to you, though."

Sophia's expression was understanding, but Axura could tell she was intrigued. "Oh, okay. Maybe I'll see you around later, Ethan?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with interest.

Axura nodded politely, making a mental note to keep an eye out for her. "I'd like that," he said, before turning to make his way back to the target.

As he walked away, Axura couldn't help but feel a twinge of curiosity about Sophia. Who was she, he felt a sense a familiarity when he saw her but he pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on the task at hand. He had a job to do, and he couldn't let distractions get in the way.

Axura made his way back to the target, his eyes scanning the room for any signs of security or potential threats. He was getting close, and he knew he had to be careful. One misstep could mean failure, or worse.

But just as he was about to reach the target, Axura's phone buzzed in his pocket. It was a message from Rowan. "Abort the mission," the message read. "New information has come to light. Stand down."

Axura's eyes narrowed. What new information? He hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do. But Axura was never one to leave a work undone

Axura's mind was racing as he tried to process the message. Abort the mission? What new information could have come to light? He looked around the room, trying to see if anyone was watching him.

He decided to play it cool and pretend to receive a call from a friend. "Excuse me," he said to no one in particular, holding up his phone. "I need to take this."

Axura walked away from the crowd, his eyes scanning the room for any signs of trouble. He dialed a number, and a voice answered on the first ring. "Axura," the voice said.

"What new information?" Axura asked, his voice low.

"Intel suggests the target is not who we thought it was," the voice replied. "We have reason to believe there's a mole within the organization. We need to regroup and reassess."

Axura's grip on the phone tightened. A mole? That changed everything. "What's the plan?" he asked.

"We'll get back to you with new instructions," the voice said. "For now, stand down and get out of there without drawing attention."

Axura nodded, even though he knew the voice couldn't see him. "Got it," he said, ending the call.

He took a deep breath and made his way back to the crowd, his eyes scanning the room for any signs of trouble. The mission may have been aborted, but Axura's instincts told him that this was far from over.
