Chapter 3 - The Worthy

They entered the castle where Knights roamed its halls. They stared at them as they walked by.

"Everyone should call Status." Sir Bors said and they did. Sean looked around but he could not see their status screen. From the way they moved, he knew they were interacting with their screens. The others looked to their left and right. They too notice they could only see their screens and no one else's.

"As you grow your Status would grow with you. Now we need to determine how you got here. There are four callings the Worthy, the Table, Arthur, and Merlin. Of course, there are special circumstances. On your screen, you will see Calling, tell me what you see there."

Bors said and looked around, he was handed a book. The prospectors took turns stating their names and calling. Sean had checked earlier and had not seen any calls. He decided to say what the majority was going to say. Thinking it would not be a big deal.

As they mentioned it was Arthur's turn.

"Arthur Hayes, Arthur," Arthur said with a smile on his face.

"Dominic Brolaigh, Table," a muscular guy in partial Amor said. Sean looked at him

"The leader?" Sean thought he recognized him from the joust. He was the one who screamed for them to stand their ground. As they continued to mention a crowd formed around them. Those who said anything apart from worthy were let go. The rest stayed behind in the end there were 7 Worthy, 1 Arthur, 3 Merlin, and 11 Table calls.

The worthy were escorted to a room in the room where there were many artifacts. Sir Bors asked each one to choose from the many artifacts. They rushed to pick up weapons. There were six swords and everyone picked on except for Sean. He picked a long metal staff. After they had all chosen. Sean had a feeling this trial was not going to be one that required a sword. On the way to the room, he saw portraits hanging on the hallway walls.

He remembers seeing a picture of the staff in one of the pictures. In the picture the staff had runes but what he was holding had none.

"It may not be the same staff after all," Sean said as he examined the staff. Some of the prospectors chuckled from a distance. This is called Sean's attention. He ignored them knowing exactly why they were laughing at him.

Bors said "Congratulations, you have become mothers. Whatever you choose is now your baby. You would feed them, clothe them, and provide for them. First of all that is not how you hold a baby."

They all carried their artifacts in their hands as they would a baby.

"Sir, what are we… ouch."

Demeter was saying when nicked himself. The sword immediately absorbed the blood. He could not believe his eyes. He ran his thumb on the edge of his sword. It cut him absorbing the blood.

"Are we to feed the sword with blood?" Demeter asked and Bors nodded he waited for them to ask a follow-up question.

"If we are to feed the sword with blood I guess clothing the sword does not mean sheathing it," Viktor asked looking at his sword. He cut himself with the sword and it absorbed his blood too. The others also tried it with their swords.

Sean bit his thumb and placed the blood on his staff but it did not absorb it.

"To answer Viktor's question, no it does not mean sheathing it. You clothe your sword with runes."

Bors said unsheathing his sword. It was covered in runes.

"Your trial has started, report to me in a week," Bors said and walked out the other prospect followed him but Sean stayed behind. He looked around for a while before leaving. The other prospects continued to feed their blood to their swords.

They made an instant connection creating a group, with Sean on the outs. By the third day, they started to look pale and sickly. They had been feeding too much of their blood to the swords. They decided to go hunting for them to feed their swords with the blood. They invited Sean and he agreed to go with them.

They brought a bow and arrows because hunting with a sword would have been impossible. They practiced shooting the arrows on their way to the forest which was on the other side of the castle. They passed the bow to Sean. He nocked the arrow but as he was about to release he fell to the ground. His head was pounding, he touched the back of his head. His hand immediately turned red, soiled by his blood.

"I'm sorry, we tried feeding them animal blood but they won't drink it."

Peter said with a rock in his hand. The others unsheathed their swords and started cutting him.

After a while, they stopped and started digging. Sean slowly reached for his staff.

"Give me strength to oppress my oppressors," he said immediately as he grabbed the staff. The staff pulsed and then released a shockwave that blew them away. Sean got up leaning on the staff. He was all bloody, his whole body ached.

Slowly waving his hand he made their swords hover mid-air. Immediately they got up he sent them flying into their chest.

After this, he fell face-first. Then everything went black. He woke up as he was being dragged by the leg by an animal. He looked back and saw the staff lying on the floor. As he tried to reach for it flew into his hand. He hit the bear with it and it ran away.

"Status" Sean called.
