Frank saw her facial expression darkening when she looked at his shoulder, so he kissed her again.
"Don't worry about it, I'm fine."
Her expression softened.
"Return to the others, I'll join you in a minute. There is something I must do first."
Frank returned to the group, carrying her cloak folded over his forearm.
"She'll be here in a minute. She said there was something she had to do first. She noticed shivers on my arms, I think, so she gave me her cloak, but oddly, I don't even feel cold," said Frank.
"It's not odd. Remember the night she duelled against Dwayne, and why we told you to wait before going to her. It's safe enough for you tonight because there is clearly an elemental bond between you two, which protects you from it, but she probably didn't register that the shivers were a reaction to her raw energy when she gave you her cloak," said Sebastian.
"I need to thank you. I mean, I shouldn't be happy you got kidnapped, but I am for the rescue party," said a werewolf standing next to Liam.
They watched Coralis as she kneeled and put her hands on the ground, looking toward the compound. Shortly after, it went on fire.
"We don't know who else was involved in this operation, but we're sure Ylkyo wasn't working alone. We only found the security room on our way out. I would expect Blue Thunder's ranking to be up by tomorrow. She killed over 50 people by herself in there, including human scientists," said High Elf Frizzo.
"Humans worked in that lab? Holy gods from above, is she going to get into trouble for that? They took her mate!" said Sebastian.
"Without the mark, some may argue otherwise. In my opinion, in light of what I saw in there and what led us here, she should be excused, but we'll see what transpires in the aftermath following the investigation," said High Mage Frizzo.
Smelling the fire, Eva knew Coralis was done and ran to her, trying to keep her hologram stable. Coralis stood by the facility, watching it burn, when Eva stopped beside her.
"Blue, I need to show you something. We're not done for tonight."
"Who else do I need to kill?" said Coralis, still looking ahead.
"No more killing for tonight. Agent Eva Suri believes the unconscious werewolves found in cells and cages have been injected with a summoning spell similar to what you two have been encountering more than once over the recent years," said High Fay Ellya.
"SERIOUSLY?" said Coralis, turning her attention to High Fay Ellya's holographic image.
"I can recognize its stank from anywhere now. I'm not sure why I didn't smell it when they passed under my nose earlier. I think the place was spelled to purge smells. I also think it's the same mixture we came across at Alpha Collins's pack, the vampire mix, but I'm not entirely sure. Emery gave our draining solution recipe to High Elf Yalor, and Zaxi will portal here with the syringes we need. He also told her to bring the shoebox with the surplus he made that last time."
Coralis followed Eva to the treeline where the unconscious people were lying. Sebastian, Emery, Frank and Aaron joined them there when they saw them heading that way. In a corner, she saw a human unconscious.
"THEY INJECTED A HUMAN WITH THAT HELLSHIT??" said Coralis.
"This is Alpha Ramon, my alpha," said Aaron, pointing at the werewolf where he stood. "You know why he is in comatose?"
"Yes," said Eva, glancing at Aaron before returning her attention to Coralis. "It seems so. I smelled the turmeric on her, but I don't know what they possibly could summon in a human unless they also wanted to turn that poor woman into a werewolf. I'm not smelling a wolf incubating in her."
"They're experimenting, but maybe they want to summon her as is. How many people do we have in total in that state?"
"Eighteen, but this is the only human we found like that. Eleven were in cells and seven were in cages. The human was in a cage."
"This is going to be a long night," said Coralis as she kneeled by the woman and pressed her left hand on her chest. "They are getting bolder in their experiments. I can't believe what I'm sensing in her. I think they wanted to see if they could hijack her soul to make her do their bidding, turning her into something like a controlled zombie."
"Are you saying they were trying to play demon and possess her?" said High Elf Yalor.
"Something like that, yes, that's a very accurate way to put it. She is a human with no wolf inside of her, we can't use the same antidote as the others to dissolve it. We will need to alter the recipe, or she won't survive the drainage."
Many people, werewolves and humans, were watching them.
"I'll handle it and will give Agent Zaxi Ziri a separate syringe before she portals to you," said High Elf Yalor from the CMMA war room over Eva's hologram.
"Was Ylkyo behind her summoning spell?" said High Fay Ellya.
"No, it's a different elf," said Coralis, kneeling between Alpha Ramon and another werewolf. She pressed her left hand on one, and her right one on the other. "You were right, Eva, it's similar to what we dealt with at Red Crescent pack, but it seems better contained and more potent. They both have a different concentration of it, and we might need two syringes each to drain it. High Elf Ylkyo was behind these two."
"Good thing then that he's dead," said Eva.
"Blue Thunder, please, stop using Ylkyo's title when referring to him, he is not worthy of it. He is a shame to both the elf faction and the elders," said High Elf Frizzo.
"Does it mean he will wake up tonight?" said Aaron.
"Yes and no," said Coralis, getting up to go to the next two werewolves. "He'll get out of his comatose-like state, but he'll be sleeping it off for a while."
"Luv, do you have enough energy to do them all tonight?" said Frank, watching her.
"You gave me two vials of mighty monster juice; I'm all wired up. I'll be fine."
Sebastian and Emery chuckled as Zaxi walked through the portal.
"High Djinn Moraa, you can force a wolf to the surface, right?" said Emery.
"Yes."
Emery explained to her, and to anyone who was listening, what the werewolves had been injected with and what Blue Thunder and their crew had previously done to dissolve the spell and restore the wolf connection to their human counterpart.
"I remember hearing about that when I returned to the pack," said Sarah.
"They weren't failed experiments?" said Alpha Tanner as Coralis was done.
"I don't think so, but they might have been depending on the standard they wanted to achieve. We'd need to read their journals and trial logs to find out. Ylkyo's essence was in fourteen of them, and a different elf was in the human and three werewolves," said Coralis.
"Did you come across the other elf tonight?" said Eva.
"I have no idea, I lost control in there. Ylkyo is the only one whose energy scent I recognized from tonight," said Coralis as they saw the three of them moving.
