For many years, Midorima had grown accustomed to using the predefined functions of the [Cell Laboratory] without much thought.
Take the [Conversion Chamber], for example. He had only ever used it to convert his own chakra into other attributes, enabling him to perform different jutsu. It had never occurred to him that he could also convert chakra belonging to others that existed within his body.
It wasn't until he was afflicted by Orochimaru's "Heaven Curse Mark" that he realized such a thing was possible.
Generally speaking, the chakra contained within "Curse Mark Techniques" or "Sealing Techniques" was far from weak—more than enough to sustain him for a considerable period. This was further confirmed when he deciphered the "Evil Sealing Method."
However, this type of chakra did not originate from Midorima's own mental or physical energy, meaning it couldn't be stored for long. At most, it would last about half a month. But this chakra could be fed into [Overload Mode], where the [Cell Laboratory] would store it.
This ability allowed Midorima to "recharge" when his chakra was depleted, though its other applications were limited. Still, it served as a wake-up call: despite coexisting with the [Cell Laboratory] for years, Midorima had only scratched the surface of its true potential.
A similar realization struck him when he removed the curse mark from Shizune.
By using [Activation], he had extended a portion of the [Cell Laboratory]'s functions to another person's body. It was his first attempt, and yet—it worked.
This experience made him aware that he had been severely underestimating the [Cell Laboratory].
The system's scalability opened up vast possibilities, but it also brought frustration. Everything required Midorima to experiment, hypothesize, and test repeatedly to determine whether his ideas were feasible.
It was like conducting real-world experiments—ideas were just ideas, and success often came down to luck. Sometimes, even if an unexpected effect occurred, there was no guarantee it could be replicated.
Out of dozens of ideas, maybe one would prove viable. Worse yet, these experiments drained his chakra, often forcing him to halt his research prematurely.
It was only then that Midorima truly understood the weight behind the word "Laboratory." When he stopped being a passive user of his cheat ability and instead became someone actively exploring its potential, the entire process felt exactly like conducting experiments.
There was no way to predict which steps would succeed and which would fail.
To prolong his experimentation, Midorima had no choice but to invest time into increasing his chakra reserves.
Chakra growth typically depended on two factors: mental and physical energy, and the efficiency of converting these energies into chakra.
Through repeated experimentation, Midorima's chakra reserves gradually expanded, reinforcing itself over time.
It reminded him of a saying: "You go bald, but you also get stronger."
Luckily, his hair was still intact—baldness wasn't a concern.
But for Midorima, there was actually a third source of energy—the blood of Jūgo flowing within him.
In the manga, Jūgo was a unique existence, "naturally capable of absorbing natural energy" and achieving "Sage Transformation."
Even without considering "Sage Mode," just the ability to "absorb natural energy" was enough to make Midorima covet it.
'If I integrate Jūgo's cells into the [Cell Laboratory], would I gain that ability, just like with the Sharingan?'
But this was just speculation. He had no way to extract Jūgo's cells from his own body, let alone introduce them into the [Cell Laboratory].
So, for now, "Find Jūgo and obtain his cells" was added to Midorima's mental to-do list.
His exploration of the [Cell Laboratory] didn't stop there. Through further study, Midorima realized that the system should be treated as an integrated whole, not just a collection of disconnected functions.
In reality, laboratories weren't isolated units—they were interconnected, forming a comprehensive research environment.
This was the key to unlocking the [Cell Laboratory]'s full potential.
During the first month, Midorima grasped this crucial insight. Starting from the second month, he began meticulously studying the relationships between each function.
For instance, the [Power Chamber] was typically used to enhance his own chakra, supplying his body with energy. But could it also allocate a portion of chakra to power the [Cell Laboratory] itself?
Previously, the [Cell Laboratory] did consume chakra, but the amount was negligible—just enough to keep it running.
After this idea took root, Midorima experimented by actively channeling chakra from the [Power Chamber] into the [Cell Laboratory], attempting to drive the entire system.
The results, however, were disappointing. Perhaps due to excessive chakra input, the system malfunctioned instead of operating smoothly.
After some deliberation, Midorima turned his attention to the [Conversion Chamber], attempting to stabilize chakra flow by adjusting the conversion rate.
In this setup, the [Power Chamber] and [Conversion Chamber] essentially acted as a "power source" and "voltage regulator."
After repeated adjustments, once the chakra input reached an optimal state, the [Cell Laboratory]'s efficiency skyrocketed—even fractures healed at a visibly accelerated rate.
The [Conversion Chamber] had another unexpected function: repairing the [Laboratory] itself. For example, when forcibly analyzing complex jutsu, the process could take an excessively long time. But the [Conversion Chamber] could force a reset, clearing the [Analysis Laboratory] for new tasks.
This further convinced Midorima that the [Cell Laboratory] wasn't just a set of isolated functions—it was a complex, interconnected system where each part could collaborate.
With this understanding, Midorima began integrating the [Analysis Laboratory] and [Bio-Research Chamber] into the framework.
In his view, these two functions were fundamentally different from the other three. The latter acted as "support systems", while the former were "core research modules."
The [Analysis Laboratory] didn't just deconstruct jutsu—it could also apply the analyzed techniques to living organisms via [Activation], as seen when he removed Shizune's curse mark.
The [Bio-Research Chamber], however, was more limited, only allowing Midorima to utilize the Sharingan stored within the [Cell Laboratory].
This led Midorima to fixate on the remaining locked function within the [Bio-Research Chamber].
