Chapter 227 - Chapter 227: Prey Slaughtered

 Chapter 227: Prey Slaughtered

After parting ways with the others, Lynn quickened his pace, continuing alone towards the mine.

After advancing two or three hundred meters, the outline of a mine came into his view.

The violently damaged mine wall, the large dried bloodstains on the ground, all shockingly recounted what had transpired there.

After activating his witcher senses, Lynn quickly detected that the beast was still inside the mine and hadn't left.

However, he didn't approach rashly. Instead, he first checked the wind direction to ensure his scent wouldn't carry to the mine.

Then, he quietly crept closer.

When he reached the entrance of the mine, he immediately saw the wicked bear, sprawled asleep in the open space in the center of the mine.

Or rather, a more accurate term: an owlbear.

The surviving lumberjacks truly hadn't been wrong.

This damned beast was indeed as large as a small cottage.

Even its snoring, as it slept on the ground, sounded like an earthquake.

"I didn't expect to see a living owlbear in this era."

In the Kaer Morhen library, there were records of creatures like owlbears:

It was a creature that arrived with the Conjunction of Spheres, possessing an owl-like head and feathers, a bear-like body and limbs, and sharp claws.

Although its body was covered in feathers, this didn't mean it could fly. Its robust limbs, however, granted it astonishing leaping ability.

There were some bloodstains on its feathers, but not many.

On the mine's ground, some broken arrows were scattered.

It seemed these were likely from the hunters who had previously come to hunt the owlbear.

Evidently, they had not only failed but also failed to inflict effective damage on the owlbear.

After all, the owlbear's thick feathers were both soft and dense.

Ordinary arrows simply couldn't penetrate them.

After confirming the situation inside the mine, Lynn retreated a few dozen meters. From his runic leather satchel, he took out Superior Thunderbolt, Superior Tawny Owl, and Superior Blizzard potions, drinking each in turn.

Superior Thunderbolt could enhance his muscle strength, allowing for stronger strikes;

Superior Tawny Owl could accelerate his body's vitality and the regeneration of chaotic magic, enabling him to fight for extended periods;

Superior Blizzard potion could put him into a "bullet time" like state.

The potions were consumed one by one. Before they took full effect, he took out the alchemy bombs he would need later and any other potions he might use, securing them firmly to the tactical bandolier across his chest.

In truth, retrieving items from his runic leather satchel would be more convenient.

But this battle was to test the performance of the Grandmaster Wolf School gear. The runic leather satchel was too precious; even if he wasn't a sorcerer, he could guess that he couldn't possibly provide one for each of his good brothers.

When black veins spread across his face, and his entire face became distorted with toxins, Lynn crouched low and stealthily crept closer.

When he was within about twenty meters, and the owlbear, sleeping on the ground, seemed to stir, he pushed off the ground, splashing mud and water. At the same time, he lunged forward like an ice wolf discovering its prey.

The sword, glinting like flowing mercury, flashed from the witcher's back, brutally hacking into the owlbear's nape.

Thwack!

Blood splattered.

The intense pain instantly woke the slumbering owlbear.

"ROAR—"

A terrifying howl radiated in all directions, as if even the air vibrated.

Lynn's expression changed.

This owlbear was incredibly tough. Even its neck, theoretically its weakest defensive point, allowed the blade to only barely cut halfway through before getting stuck, immovable.

Not only that, the blood spurting from the owlbear's neck splashed onto the silver sword's hilt and his gloves, making the hilt wet and sticky, making it impossible to exert force.

The witcher hesitated for almost no time, his body instinctively reacting:

He abandoned the silver sword stuck in the owlbear's neck, leaping up.

While dodging the claws that swept across the ground, Lynn performed a backflip onto the owlbear's back.

Except for its chest, the owlbear's entire body was covered in a thick layer of feathers.

Stepping on them gave a sensation of having no solid footing, a feeling of being suspended.

Lynn only stayed for a second.

Then he leaped off.

But before leaving, he placed a Superior Dancing Star on the owlbear's back.

Boom!

Orange-yellow flames erupted on the owlbear's body, then rapidly expanded and spread.

The intense heat and burning sensation from its back made the owlbear let out a piercing shriek while thrashing wildly on the ground.

It was trying to extinguish the flames on its body.

Lynn seized an opportunity.

He threw two more Superior Beehive bombs onto the ground where the owlbear was about to roll.

The moment the owlbear's body pressed down...

Puff!

Even the owlbear's massive body was slightly lifted by the explosion of the alchemy bombs.

A few seconds later, large amounts of blood flowed from beneath the owlbear.

Its wailing grew even more mournful.

But at this moment, Lynn had no intention of approaching.

When a beast is injured, it's actually the time to be even more vigilant.

Because the scent of blood and the injuries would further stimulate their ferocity, and the surging adrenaline would temporarily make them forget the pain.

Lynn then threw a few more Superior Dancing Stars, turning the ground around the owlbear into a sea of fire.

Then he retreated twenty to thirty meters.

He took out a Kovir longbow from his runic leather satchel.

He nocked an arrow, aiming at the owlbear's eye as it tried to escape the inferno, its movements clearly much slower.

...

Squish—

As the silver sword, stuck in the owlbear's neck, was pulled out, blood spurted like a fountain.

A warm current flowed through the weapon into his body.

He had experienced similar sensations countless times before, but each time he felt it, it was still very pleasant.

"Attribute Points: 6 (30%) → 6 (80%)"

"Indeed, I still need Taenseel and the others to forge me a Grandmaster silver sword. This sword is completely unusable now."

Lynn glanced at the large chip on the blade of this Master-grade silver sword, which had been repaired once before.

He shook his head, sheathing the silver sword again.

He took out his hunting knife, laboriously cutting off the owlbear's head as proof of completing the task, while reviewing the previous combat process.

This Grandmaster Wolf School armor truly lived up to its top-tier design. Not only did it not hinder combat in the slightest, but the alchemy bombs and potions secured to the tactical bandolier showed no signs of coming loose throughout the entire fight.

Wolf School armor wasn't the heaviest, nor was its speed the fastest.

But the Wolf School's combat style emphasized the flexible use of alchemy bombs and potions, and the Grandmaster Wolf School gear indeed complemented this fighting style.

Thinking this, Lynn had already severed the owlbear's head. After extracting any usable materials from the owlbear's body, he set off on the path he had come from.
