Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Beneath the Surface of Saikai

The Next Day, Saikai Academy.

"So, what happened to you, Akatsuki?" – Natsuki asked, raising an eyebrow as she noticed the change that had come over Kojou.

"Growth spurt?..." – Kojou smiled awkwardly, not knowing how to explain things since he didn't want to tell everyone about the Guild.

"Are you messing with me?" – Natsuki said, her eyebrow twitching in annoyance.

"I don't really know either. I just woke up yesterday and I was like this," – Kojou shrugged indifferently – "Maybe it's the effect of awakening the power of the Fourth Primogenitor. It even changed my blood type, so it wouldn't be strange if it affected my body too."

"That's a plausible possibility…" – Hearing Kojou's words, Natsuki couldn't help but feel that it made sense. The power of the Fourth Primogenitor was something mysterious even to the Primogenitors who created him, so it wasn't strange for such effects to exist.

"By the way, Natsuki-chan, I want to ask you for a favor," – Kojou said with a slightly embarrassed smile.

"A favor? ... Let's hear it." – Natsuki couldn't help but be surprised; it was the first time Kojou had ever asked her for anything.

"I need your help transferring three students so they can start attending classes tomorrow. Is that possible?" – Kojou asked, since Erica and the others had requested to study at his school, while Lucretia would just slack off at home if left alone.

"Hmmm…" – Natsuki didn't answer immediately. She stared at Kojou with sharp eyes, and for some reason, she felt the transfer students were girls, which sparked a bit of jealousy in her gaze – "Fine, I'll help you, but remember you owe me one."

"Thank you, Natsuki-chan," – Kojou smiled happily upon hearing her agreement. He didn't mind being in her debt since he already owed her a lot and wouldn't refuse any of her requests even if she said nothing.

"Don't call your homeroom teacher 'Natsuki-chan'," – Natsuki said as she lightly smacked Kojou on the head with her folding fan – "And hurry up, there's only fifteen minutes left before the exam ends."

"Alright…" – Kojou nodded submissively and focused back on his exam sheet, starting to answer the questions. He had been taught yesterday by three academically outstanding girls, so the exam was relatively easy even for him.

"Sorry I'm late," – Kojou said, finding Touka already waiting at the school gate. She had told him she would accompany him from now on and was even living in the apartment next to his.

"No need to apologize, Akatsuki-senpai. If anything, I should be the one apologizing since you're going shopping with me," – Touka said politely, bowing to Kojou.

"Uhh… can I call you Touka?" – Kojou asked, and after seeing Touka nod, he continued – "Then Touka, since we'll be spending time together from now on, we'll probably cause trouble for each other… so let's just stop apologizing for every little thing."

Whenever Touka apologized, Kojou felt like he was bullying her. She was just too kind and polite.

"By the way, you can call me Kojou too," – he added, as he wasn't the type to mind others using his first name.

"I'll keep that in mind, Senpai," – Touka replied, not seeming ready to use "Kojou" just yet.

"Then let's go. You have a lot of stuff to buy," – Kojou said as they walked out of Saikai Academy toward the shopping district. Touka had lived in a dorm before, so now that she was in an apartment, she needed to buy a lot of things.

Kojou and Touka weren't the only ones going shopping. Erica, Liliana, and Ena were also going since as soon as Asagi finished making IDs for them, they bought apartments on the same floor as Kojou so they could all live close together.

As for Lucretia, she didn't care much and just asked the girls to buy whatever for her.

Although Kojou was supposed to accompany them, he had a make-up exam, so Nagisa went with them instead. She knew the island well and would make sure they didn't get lost.

"By the way, what's with that guitar case?" – Kojou asked, noticing Touka carrying the same case he had seen yesterday.

"That's my weapon. It's called Sekkarō. It's an anti-demon weapon and is said to have the power to kill Primogenitors," – Touka said calmly, not seeming to care much – "I was given this weapon by the Lion King Organization to fight you… in case you ever desired destruction and killing."

"Destruction and killing? I'm not interested in any of that. I'm satisfied with my current life," – Kojou said as he placed his hands behind his head and looked up at the sky. It felt like a long time since he had last seen such a beautiful blue sky.

"By the way, I've been curious… why are you hiding your identity as a Demon and staying hidden on Itogami Island?" – Touka asked curiously, noticing that Kojou didn't have a Demon Registration Bracelet.

"Are you seriously asking that?" – Kojou said in disbelief, turning to look at Touka, who was staring at him in confusion – "Really… are you telling me the Lion King Organization sent you to observe me and didn't tell you anything?"

"Other than your name, your friends' and family's names, they only told me where you live and study," – Touka replied, tilting her head in confusion. This was her first mission, and she assumed that was all the Lion King Organization knew, given how mysterious the Fourth Primogenitor was.

"Sigh~…" – Kojou sighed tiredly upon seeing Touka's expression. He couldn't help but wonder if they really sent her to observe him – "Let's go. We'll talk while we walk."

"… " – Touka tilted her head again in confusion, not knowing what mistake she had made, but she walked beside Kojou and listened quietly as he began talking about himself…
