Chapter 2 - Rise of Yu Lingshe

Yu Lingshe gradually calmed down.

"It's actually not so bad. At least I entered this world before the ascension to the middle world. There are many chances to do things."

After thinking so, she stood up.

As the first lady of the ancient Yu clan in this world, she was served by many maids.

Yu Lingshe herself inherited the memories of her 'first life', she didn't know whether it was transmigration or reincarnation, or even a dream revelation.

Regardless, she was able to quickly calm down and accept these things as a kind of prophecy, her true identity was the first lady of the Yu clan and the other things were the past.

When she stood up, the maids outside heard her steps and came to serve her.

She was used to this and let them do, while contemplating her next steps.

'This world is similar to the martial arts novels I read. The spiritual power here is so thin that it degenerated, barely perceptible, and when it's absorbed into the human body, it only becomes 'inner strength'.

The strongest masters can equal the qi-refining cultivators up to the highest ninth-stage qi refining, but there is a natural chasm they can't cross at this point.

So, it doesn't matter if I try martial arts. They are useless and might hinder my path.

For now, the matters of the ancestral inheritance treasure have to be considered… in the novel, they said I had a mutated wood root, but there was no further explanation besides that it had some effect on spiritual plants, but every root related to wood had this effect.

The only side-lines of the heirloom that were written, were that this treasure was very strong, but as an ancestral treasure, it's impossible for the main character to use it.

It seems I have to get it first. This time, I will ascend all the way to the immortal realm, or even further!'

After finishing herself up, Yu left her yard.

Her yard was near the main hall, so her goal, the first back hall, also called ancestral hall, which is right behind the main hall, wasn't far away.

These courtyards all have the title 'hall', but in fact, every one of them is many times the size of an average house in her memories, so it took Yu a bit longer than she had anticipated.

She still had to balance her memories and her true self.

When she was just halfway through the little garden that separated her and the main hall, an unpleasant smell wafted towards her nose.

Her nose twitched twice, trying to calm itself, but the smell was extremely strong, as if a bee was stinging right into it.

She considered this and in her ladylike manner, she pulled up her sleeve, trying to cover her nose.

Just as she was seriously contemplating which dog had peed into this beautiful garden, she saw something worse than a dog.

She pulled up a fan from her sleeve, fanning away the strong perfume towards the flowers on the side.

She could have sworn they themselves wilted for a second.

After doing this, she clasped her hands "Yu Lingshe greets the madam!" as she said this, she didn't even bother bowing to the other person.

On the other side stood a beautiful woman of a smaller stature, with beautifully styled dark brown hair and almond eyes.

She wore somewhat tight-fitting clothes uncommon of this time, something even proud brothel dames would look down upon.

Unlike the long sleeve that failed to hide her smooth jade hands, the cloth didn't even attempt to hide her waist.

It was snatched and just looking at it, it seemed near impossible to have such a waist.

Her upper and lower weights must have been the daily training weights of professional weight lifters in Yu's memories, at least she couldn't understand how such things were possible in this age.

The other lady across her was her father's concubine.

When the concubine became the lawful wife of her father, her title changed to Madam Yu, but Yu never acknowledged that, barely keeping Madam to show her manners, to make sure the other person knew she wasn't lacking in education but in respect towards her.

'Tsk, I respect any prostitute that works hard for her income, but a vixen such as this doesn't deserve the least bit of respect. My spit would be godsend on this waste of air!'

As a noble main wife, the concubine, whose name Yu intentionally forgot, was angry when she heard this.

She said aloud "You little dirt, if you don't call me Madam Yu, just wait and see!"

Uneducated as she was, she didn't even give her two attendants and the servants behind any time to scold in her stead, neither did she bother to act out as a teaching mother.

Yu Lingshe was annoyed at this loud-mouthed useless person, she just frowned and said "I don't know what the madam wants? This is the path to the main hall from my own courtyard.

There should be no other person walking this path besides me."

The concubine was angry, ignoring her attendants who were clearly trying to stop her.

She nearly screamed "I am the madam of this house! How dare you disrespect me!"

She raised her hand, as if to slap.

Right at this moment, a man of middle age walked out from the side, taking her arm softly, with a measuring look, scanning her whole body and touching her with his other hand, trying to do things in broad daylight in front of his daughter.

That's right, this was Yu's father, Yu Yongxu. She looked at him with a bit of resentment and disgust.

'This guy only became the clan leader because mother, who was the only daughter of the Immortal Taoist Temple's head priest, supported him!

Not only did she have a noble backgroud, her talent was immeasurable, reaching the high sky and deep earth!

Now that she passed away, he instantly took a little roadside shit as his main wife.

It's no surprise he lost his position as clan leader!'

Even though he lost his position, her own position as the first young lady of the clan remained.

After all, she still represented the relation between the temple and the Yu family, and most importantly, she was favoured by the Yu grand elder, her gradfather, Yu Luyen.

He loved her mother a lot, thinking she was the most suitable lady to rule her family alongside the clan leader.

The Yu clan, unlike other forces of this age, followed the ancestral rule and made the most talented person the clan leader, regardless of gender or age.

There is only one truth in the world of cultivation - Strength!

There is only one truth in the world of civilisation - Wisdom!

This was the reason why they kept so much of their power.

Generational wealth declines after three generation if there is no talent, but when one doubles the pool by allowing all those with blood ties or marriage ties to control, then it's easy to keep the old wealth.

This way, one also effectively fights the widely known issue that clans are worse than sects when it comes to recruiting talents.

When you know you have a chance for a proper power postion in the family you marry into, you will not be so rejective of being a son-in-law, or a lady for that matter.

Although this way there were many factions in the family, this situation was much better than other old families who have long perished.

The Yu clan adhered to the idea that there was no direct lineage.

Or, rather than saying there is no direct lineage, they have no way of affirming who was of the direct lineage and who was not.

Their ancestors had ways, but this is way too long ago for them to know clearly about the situation.

At this point, all members had a bit of direct lineage, so they just competed in abilities and skills.

Those who were the best would get their rightful position.

Yu Lingshe's father's position was basically just nominal, her mother was the true leader.

This idea is manifested in the minds of the Yu lineage.

In their long history there have been many internal disputes, but there was never a lack of talents, only a lack of resources.

If one's own child couldn't inherit their position, then it was partly their fault because they raised a child into incompetence, and partly the child's fault for not working hard enough to compensate a lack of talent.
