Chapter 79 - Chapter 79: Second Day at School

The scene opens with everyone at Hana's house, gathered in the living room with Daru sitting with his arms crossed.

Hana: Hey… Daru.

Daru: I don't want to talk about it.

Zodiac: Someone sounds mad.

Daru glances at Zodiac.

Daru: Listen, shut up, or I'll shut you up.

Hana: It's alright, Daru; it happens to the best of us.

Daru: (Sarcastically) Really...? People get detention on the first day of school?

Ohma: Sir Daru, it's okay.

Himitsu: Yes, Daru, don't let it bother you.

Daru: Yeah, whatever. I'm going to train.

Ohma: Okay, I'll come with!

Daru: No… I'm training by myself today.

Ohma: Oh… Okay.

Akira: Just leave him alone; I can tell he's pissed off.

Ohma: Uhh… Okay.

The scene shifts to the following day, showing Hana and the others walking to school.

Ohma: Oh man, I can't wait for gym class again.

Himitsu: Yeah, I can't wait for science!

Akira: You guys are acting like kids! Just stop!

Himitsu & Ohma: Sorry…

Hana: I know it's only been one day, but have you all noticed anything unusual? Or does everyone seem strange to you?

Daru: No, I haven't noticed anything yet.

Zodiac: Yeah, not yet.

Hana: (Sighs) Alright then.

They arrive at the school just as the bell rings to signal the start of class.

Daru: Well, I gotta go so I don't get detention again.

Ohma: Have a good class!

Daru starts walking away.

Himitsu: I better get going too. I'll talk to you guys later.

Akira begins to walk away.

Hana: O-oh, bye!

Zodiac also starts walking away.

Hana: W-what? Does everyone just walk away?

Himitsu: Yeah, pretty much (laughs). Hey, Hana, we better get to class.

Hana: Right! Let's go!

Ohma: Goodbye, everyone!

Himitsu and Hana head to their class while Ohma remains standing in place.

Dex: Hey, buddy old pal!

Brett: Yeah, how's it going, pal?

Ohma turns around to see it's the twelfth graders.

Ohma: Oh hi, guys! How are you?

Dex: I'm doing wonderfully!

Brett: Yeah, we heard gym class is outside in the forest today.

Ohma: Whoa! Really?

Brett: Yeah, just head outside to the forest on the right side of the school.

Ohma: Okay, cool! Thanks, guys! You're a big help!

Dex: Anything to help out a teammate!

Ohma was about to walk away when he posed another question.

Ohma: Wait. Aren't you all coming?

Brett: Yeah, we'll meet you there; we just have to help the homeroom teacher with some things.

Ohma: Oh, okay! I'll see you there.

Dex: See ya!

Ohma exits the school and heads toward the forest. Daru arrives in his classroom, enters, and takes a seat beside Noah.

Noah: Oh, look who's on time.

Daru: Shut it.

Noah: Whoa! My bad, bro.

Mrs. Soya: I hope everyone completed their homework last night because we have a quiz today.

Everyone: Aww!

Daru: A quiz on the second day? Seriously?

Mrs. Soya: Now, hmm… Sam, can you hand out these papers to everyone, please?

Sam rises from her chair.

Sam: Yes, of course, Mrs. Soya.

Noah: Of course she's handing them out.

Daru: What's wrong with you?

Noah: Huh? No issue. It's just that everyone isn't fond of Sam; she's the teacher's pet and often boasts about her grades.

Daru: I see, yeah, that can be annoying.

Noah: Yeah, tell me about it.

As Sam distributes the papers, she approaches Daru.

Sam: Oh, you're the new student, right?

Daru: Yes, and?

Sam: Oh, nothing. I merely wanted to introduce myself… (clears her throat) My name is Sammatha Seto, but people usually call me Sam for short.

Daru: Great. Are you finished talking?

Sam: Ugh! How dare you speak to me like that! I have the highest grades in the entire school.

Daru: I don't care; I really don't, so please talk to someone who does.

Sam, visibly upset, slams her paper on the desk.

Sam: This is not over.

Sam walks away, continuing to distribute papers.

Noah: Wow, bro, that was intense!

Daru: What?

Noah: Seriously? You just told her you don't care! Not many people speak to her like that.

Daru: It was about time someone said something. She's annoying.

The scene shifts to Zodiac sitting in class, spinning his pencil on his finger.

Brenda: (muttering to herself) He looks so majestic.

Zodiac senses her gaze.

Zodiac: Can you stop staring at me, please?

Brenda: Oh, I'm sorry.

Zodiac: You should.

Mr. Vince: So, everyone, I hope you completed the homework from last night. Can you please take out your papers?

Everyone retrieves their papers and places them on their desks, except for Zodiac.

Brenda: Where is your paper?

Zodiac: I left it at home.

Brenda: What? You can't do that; you'll get in trouble.

Zodiac: I don't care. I don't care about this stupid school.

Mr. Vince: Is everything alright back there?

Brenda: Uh, yes, Mr. Vince!

Mr. Vince: Zodiac, where is your homework?

Zodiac: I didn—

Brenda: MY DOG ATE IT!

Zodiac: Huh?

Everyone looks at Brenda with puzzled expressions.

Girl: What are you doing?

Brenda: I don't know.

Mr. Vince: I'm sorry, could you repeat that?

Brenda: Ugh… I said my dog ate his homework.

Mr. Vince: And how did that happen?

Brenda: Uhh…

Brenda looks at Zodiac.

Zodiac: Yeah, how did that happen again?

Brenda: Umm… He asked if he could come to my house to study since he's new, and I thought I could assist him. When we finished, my dog tore it apart.

Mr. Vince looks at Zodiac.

Mr. Vince: Is this true, Zodiac?

Zodiac looks at Brenda, whose expression is anxious.

Zodiac: (Sighs) Yes… it's true; I asked her for help with my homework, and when we were done, her dumb dog destroyed it.

Brenda: Hey! He's not a bad dog.

Mr. Vince: Hmm… Alright, I believe you. But next time, if that happens, come to me first, okay?

Brenda: Yes, Mr. Vince, we will.

Zodiac: Yeah, whatever.

Mr. Vince begins reviewing the homework.

Girl: Brenda, that was so close!

Brenda: I know!

Brenda looks at Zodiac.

Brenda: Thank you for having my back.

Zodiac: Like I said before, I don't care; just leave me alone and let me deal with my own problems.

Brenda: (To herself) What is it about him that makes me like him?

Meanwhile, Akira is seated at her desk in class.

Mrs. Albby: Alright class, I will be reading aloud today.

Kyoka: Great! We have to read out loud.

Kyoka glances at Akira, who is holding her plushie on her desk.

Kyoka: You still play with stuffed animals?

Akira: Didn't I ask you yesterday to leave me alone? And it's not just any stuffed animal; it's important to me.

Mrs. Albby: Akira! Please put that away.

Akira: No.

Everyone looks at Akira, astonished.

Mrs. Albby: Akira, I'm not asking again. Put it away.

Kyoka: Umm… Mrs. Albby?

Kyoka: Umm… Akira's stuffed animals mean a lot to her. It's related to her previous school being destroyed.

Mrs. Albby: Ah! You're right! I'm sorry, Akira.

Akira: What?

Mrs. Albby: I forgot you came from a school that was destroyed and that you and a few others got out. I'm really sorry.

Akira: Thanks?

Kyoka: You're welcome.

Akira: For what?

Kyoka: I just saved you!

Akira: I didn't need saving! I told you to leave me alone!

Kyoka: Why are you always so angry?

Akira: Because I need to find my brother and kill him.

Kyoka: (Very confused) Oh, okay…

Meanwhile, Himitsu and Hana are collaborating on their homework.

Himitsu: Number 4 is B, right?

Hana: Yeah! That's correct!

Himitsu: Let's go!

Hana: I'm surprised; for someone who didn't go to school, you're very smart.

Himitsu: Thank you (smiles).

Hana: Has anyone in your crew gone to school?

Himitsu: Yeah, Gram has, and I think Kono has as well, but their experiences were different.

Hana: I understand.

Mr. Kyto: I was going to ask if anyone completed their homework, but it appears that you all did! I'm so proud of my class.

Himitsu: Science class is awesome!

Hana: Yeah, it is! We get to do all sorts of cool things later in the semester.

As they converse, a student enters late.

Guy: I'm sorry I'm late, Mr. Kyto!

Mr. Kyto: (Laughs) Shank!

Shank: Yeah, I know I'm late. I'm sorry!

Mr. Kyto: Shank, this is your second tardy of the semester, so you know what that means.

Shank lowers his head.

Shank: Yeah, I know. Detention after school.

Himitsu: Detention for being late twice?

Hana: If you get two lates, you get detention.

Himitsu: Then why did Daru get detention?

Hana: Oh, that's easy; it's because he has Ms. Soya as his teacher. She's very strict.

Himitsu: Oh, that makes sense.

As time passes, Ohma walks through the forest.

Ohma: I can't wait to see what we're doing out here… But it's kind of lonely.

As Ohma continues walking, he stumbles upon a peculiar house deep in the woods.

Ohma: Huh? What is that?

Approaching the house, Ohma senses a powerful aura emanating from it. He pulls out his nunchucks and adopts a serious demeanor.

Ohma: What is this pressure?

As Ohma moves closer to the house, Dex and Brett suddenly leap out from a bush, startling him and prompting him to swing his nunchucks at them.

Dex & Brett: AHHH!

Ohma: What the—

Brett: What on earth, man!

Dex: Are you trying to hurt us!?

Ohma: No, but you all jumped out, and I—

Dex: Brett, let's get out of here.

Brett: Yeah!

They hurriedly rise to their feet and depart, leaving Ohma standing there.

Ohma: I'm sorry!

He puts his nunchucks away.

Ohma: That was strange… What was that feeling?

Ohma begins to walk back to school. Upon arrival, he steps inside and sees his class in the gym.

Ohma: What?

He enters the gym, and Mr. Ben, the teacher, notices him.

Mr. Ben: Ah, there you are, Ohma.

Ohma: I thought class was in the forest.

Mr. Ben: In the forest? Who said that?

Ohma glances at Dex and Brett, who are laughing. Anger rises within him as he approaches them.

Dex: Brett, look.

Brett stops laughing when Ohma stands before them.

Ohma: You lied to me.

Brett: Hey, we didn't lie at all.

Ohma: Yes, you did! You told me class was in the forest, and it wasn't.

Dex: Well, sucks to be you! (Laughs).

Mr. Ben: Is this true, guys? Did you tell Ohma that class was outside?

Dex: No, I would never do that.

In a fit of frustration, Ohma punches Dex in the stomach, causing him to collapse to the ground.

Dex: UGH!!

Brett: HEY!

Brett rushes to punch Ohma, but Ohma kicks his feet out from under him, causing him to fall.

Brett: Ah!

Mr. Ben: Ohma! That's it, you have detention after school.

Ohma: What! But, sir, th—

Mr. Ben: No! Ohma, you have detention after school.

Ohma: Ugh! Okay…

As the first two classes conclude, everyone heads to the cafeteria to gather and eat. Only Himitsu and Hana have smiles on their faces as they sit down.

Himitsu: So… how's everyone's second day going?

Ohma: Bad.

Zodiac: Ass.

Daru: Dumb.

Akira: Shit.

Hana: Oh… really, what happened?

Ohma: I got detention after school…

Hana: What! How?

Ohma: I punched Dex and tripped Brett.

Daru: Well done.

Hana: Daru! You can't say that!

Daru: Well, he stood up for himself.

Ohma: Yeah, but I've never gotten in trouble before…

Akira: Toughen up and stop acting like a child.

Zodiac: She's not wrong.

Hana: You guys are so stubborn.

Himitsu: You'll get used to it, trust me.

Hana: What about everyone else?

Daru: I met this annoying girl named Sam or something.

Hana: Oh, her.

Daru: What? Is there something I should know?

Hana: Well, her father owns the school.

Daru: Wait, really?

Hana: Yeah… she's annoying!

Daru: Yeah, no kidding.

Hana: She thinks that because her dad owns it, she can do no wrong.

Zodiac: You're lucky; I had to deal with a girl named Brenda.

Hana: Oh, Brenda! She is so nice!

Zodiac: No, she's annoying and never stops talking.

Hana: Well… maybe she likes you; who knows.

Akira: (Laughs) That's the funniest thing I've heard all day. Someone like this asshole tries to make girls cook for him.

Zodiac: Shut up! I could have cut your head off and used your fire myself.

Akira: I would have loved to see you try!

Zodiac: I could do it right now!

Hana: Okay, guys, let's just calm down.

Daru: No, this is getting interesting.

As they argued, a group of young men approached their table.

???: Hey!

Hana noticed the group and appeared anxious.

Himitsu: Are you okay, Hana?

Akira and Zodiac ceased their argument, glancing at the group, who all wore unsettling smiles.

Hana: Hi, Riker! How's it going?

Riker: It's going. But I hear these are the new students.

Riker placed his hands on Daru's shoulders.

Himitsu: Oh no.

Hana: What?

Daru: I'm only going to tell you once… get your hands off me.

Riker: Oh? Do you not like that?

Daru stood up, confronting Riker, who looked slightly intimidated.

Riker: Oh, you're actually bigger than I thought.

Daru: Touch me again, and I'll turn your hand into mush.

Riker: You really think that scares me?

Daru: No, it wasn't meant to scare you; it's me protecting you.

Guy: Dude, are you really going to let him talk to you like that?

Riker: Nah… these guys aren't worth my time.

Zodiac: You're right; I could take you out in two seconds.

Riker glanced over at Zodiac.

Riker: Did you say something?

Zodiac: You heard me; I don't need to repeat myself.

Hana: Guys, just stop! You're making it worse.

Akira: Making what worse? You act like they can actually hurt us.

Hana approached the group of young men.

Hana: Hey, I'm sorry if my friends were rude; we're just having a bad day. I hope you can understand.

Riker: See… at least one person can talk to me nicely.

Hana: (Smiling) Yeah, there's no reason to be rude, right?

A few moments pass, and Riker unexpectedly strikes Hana in the face. She collapses to the ground as everyone in the café turns to observe in silence.

Hana: Ahh!

Himitsu, Ohma, Zodiac, Daru, and Akira's expressions ignite with anger.

Riker: What did I tell you about getting too close?

Riker notices chairs scraping against the floor and glances to his right, where he sees Daru, Akira, Zodiac, Ohma, and Himitsu glaring at him with fury.

Akira: Do you always put your hands on women?

Zodiac: How long do you think you can last with your throat cut open?

Daru's fist begins to glow purple.

Daru: I wonder how many punches you can take.

Himitsu: How dare you hit a girl!

Ohma: Your actions have consequences!

Riker: Ugh… everyone knows not to get too close to me.

Daru steps directly in front of Riker, bringing them face to face.

Daru: I am too close now… what are you going to do?

Riker: Uhh…

Daru: Go ahead, hit me; I dare you.

Riker: (smirking) You really want to protect this lowlife?

Hana: (struggling to rise) I-it's okay.

Himitsu & Ohma: Hana!

Ohma and Himitsu rush to assist Hana in standing.

Hana: It's alright, I'm fine.

Hana looks at Riker.

Hana: I'm sorry; it won't happen again.

Riker: Oh, I know it won't. And tell your little friends to know their place.

Hana: Yes, I will.

Riker: Have a good rest of the school day.

Riker places his hand on Daru's shoulder once more, but Daru seizes it and twists it.

Riker: AHHH!!!

Riker collapses to his knees.

Daru: I told you not to touch me.

Zodiac picks up a spoon and presses it against Riker's neck.

Zodiac: I wonder how I should kill you.

Akira positions himself beside Daru and Zodiac.

Akira: Don't come near us or Hana again, got it?

Riker's friends approach, and Ohma regards them sternly.

Ohma: Don't even think about it.

Riker's friends retreat.

Hana: Please, Daru, let him go.

Daru: Why should I?

Hana: Because he's my… he's my brother.

Maivelace Crew: Brother!?

Hana: Yes, he is my brother.

Daru releases Riker.

Daru: You're lucky; otherwise, I would have broken your hand.

Riker: Hana, who are these people?

Hana: Don't worry about it. Just go.

Riker: Fine!

Riker glances at Daru and the others.

Riker: This isn't over; next time will be different.

Zodiac: Yeah, I highly doubt that.

Riker and his companions depart as Zodiac and the others take their seats.

Akira: Hana! You've got some explaining to do.

Hana: Yeah, I know.
