Chapter 81 - Chapter 81: Zodiac’s Killing Problem

After the crew discovered that Hana was on the list, they left the house and walked back to school just as the first bell rang. They split up, heading to their homerooms, while the scene shifted to Zodiac in art class.

Mr. Vince: Good morning, everyone!

Class: Good morning, Mr. Vince!

Mr. Vince: I hope you've all been working on your assignments because I will be collecting them at the end of class. I look forward to seeing your creations!

Zodiac: What?

Brenda: Did you really forget about the assignment from yesterday?

Zodiac: Honestly, I couldn't care less.

Brenda: Huh? (Talking to self) Gosh, he's such a hottie!

Mr. Vince: Now, if you could all resume your assignments, I'll take care of some paperwork.

Everyone begins to take out their art supplies, getting to work while Zodiac sits there, seemingly lost. As Brenda gathers her materials, she glances over at Zodiac.

Brenda: Where's your stuff? Did you forget to bring it?

Zodiac: (arms crossed) I guess so…

Brenda rummages through her binder, pulls out an extra sheet of the assignment, and hands it to Zodiac.

Brenda: Here you go!

Zodiac: Hmm.

She also tears out a blank page from her art book and grabs some pencils, offering them to Zodiac.

Brenda: You'll need this too.

Zodiac: Yeah, yeah. What do I do now?

Brenda: Uhhh, well, the assignment is to draw something that resembles life—something like this.

Brenda flips to a page in her art book and shows him a drawing of nature, featuring trees, animals, and more.

Zodiac: How the hell am I supposed to draw something like that?

Brenda: You don't have to copy exactly what I drew; you can create whatever you like.

Zodiac: Hmmm.

Zodiac picks up the pencil and starts drawing a flower he admired back in Leorea but struggles.

Brenda: Are you trying to draw a flower? That's not how you do it. Here, let me help.

Brenda places her hand over Zodiac's and guides the pencil to create a perfect flower.

Brenda: (smiling) There you go.

Zodiac: Yeah, whatever…

The scene shifts back to Sampostis, focusing on Lance and Iris's house, where Iris is in bed, tossing and turning.

Iris: (panicking) Ahhhhhh! Why am I so scared to text him?

After a few moments, she hears knocking on her door; it's Lance.

Lance: Is something wrong, sis? Do you need my help?

Iris: (Stops rolling) I'm fine, brother; don't worry!

Lance: Are you sure? I can—

Iris: YES, I AM FINE!

Lance: Alright then, calm down!

Lance walks away as Iris sits up on her bed and takes a deep breath.

Iris: Alright, Iris, it's time to make the first move.

She accesses her Jump Watch, navigates to her contacts, and selects Zodiac. Nervously, she stares at her screen for a few seconds before beginning to type. Iris types one word and sends it to Zodiac.

Iris: Sent.

The screen switches back to Zodiac, whose Jump Watch vibrates audibly. All the students, including the teacher, turn to look at him.

Mr. Vince: Mister Zodiac, could you please turn off your device?

Zodiac: (Looking at his Jump Watch) What in the world?

Brenda: Ooh, that's a fancy watch. What brand is it?

Zodiac rises from his desk and heads toward the door, but the teacher stops him.

Mr. Vince: Where do you think you're going?

Zodiac: To the washroom.

Mr. Vince: You know you need to ask the teacher for permission, right?

Zodiac: I don't really care.

The other students are taken aback by Zodiac's response.

Student Guy 1: Oh damn! This guy is crazy!

Brenda: (To herself) Yes, I can definitely see myself dating him.

Mr. Vince: (Smiling) Okay then, I'll let this one slide, but if you do it again, I'll have to send you to detention. Got it?

Zodiac: Cool.

Zodiac opens the door and exits the classroom. He checks the message he received from Iris on his Jump Watch.

Zodiac: Did I just get a message from Iris?

He clicks on Iris's contact, bringing up the chat, and the first thing he sees is "Hey." He begins to shake his head.

Zodiac: Oh great…

The scene shifts back to Himitsu and Hana in science class, working on their assignments. Hana turns to Himitsu, whose expression reflects shock.

Hana: So, what did you discover?

Himitsu: Uh-uhhh.

Hana: Himitsu? Is everything alright?

Himitsu: I think we should wait for everyone to discuss this. When we tell you what we saw, you'll be shocked.

Hana begins to feel anxious.

Hana: Oh… Okay, I'll wait until lunchtime.

Himitsu: That sounds like a plan.

The scene resumes with Zodiac walking down the hallway, glancing at a text message on his Jump Watch.

Zodiac: Tch, should I even bother texting her?

As he passes by the boys' restroom, he steps inside to use the urinal. After finishing, he heads to wash his hands when a group of bullies enters and notices Zodiac, as they are smiling.

Boy Bully 1: Well, look what we have here.

Boy Bully 2: If it isn't the new transfer student.

Zodiac continues washing his hands, ignoring the bullies.

Boy Bully 1: Yo, look at me when I'm talking to you.

Boy Bully 2: Stop trying to act tough.

Zodiac turns off the faucet and glances at them.

Zodiac: What do you want?

Boy Bully 1: What do I want? We just want to get to know you, that's all.

Zodiac: I don't want to know you lowlifes. Now get out of my way.

Zodiac flicks the water off his hands and walks toward the exit, but the three bullies block his path.

Boy Bully 1: Hold on, where do you think you're going?

Boy Bully 2: You don't get to leave when you want.

As they speak, Zodiac takes a deep breath.

Zodiac: I don't usually give warnings, but I'll give you one. Get… out… of… my… way.

The bullies burst into laughter.

Boy Bully 3: Nah, this guy is bluffing! You ain't that guy, pal!

One of the bullies steps closer to Zodiac, invading his personal space.

Boy Bully 1: Heh, I don't think so.

The bully prepares to grab Zodiac's shoulder, but Zodiac swiftly catches his wrist, a serious expression on his face.

Boy Bully 1: (Shocked) What the!?

Zodiac: You kids just don't listen.

Zodiac delivers a quick punch to the bully's face, knocking him to the ground.

Boy Bully 2: Hey!

Boy Bully 3: You bastard!

As they react, a black tattoo mark develops around Zodiac's right eye, shocking the three bullies.

Boy Bully 1: What the heck!?

Zodiac extends his hand to the side.

Zodiac: Come forth.

The dual blades from Hana's house begin to tremble, rising from the ground and flying toward Zodiac, breaking through the walls. They soar through the air at high speed, crashing through the bathroom windows and landing in Zodiac's hands. The bullies are left in shock, frightened by the murderous intent emanating from him.

Zodiac: Now it's time to die.

Meanwhile, two students walk down the hallway together.

Student 1: Man, I can't wait for lunchtime; I'm starving!

Student 2: You're always starving. All you care about is food.

Student 1: (Laughing) Well, I just can't help myself. The food here is amaz—

Bullies: AHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Both students jump at the sound of the screaming.

Student 1: (Shocked) What was that!?

Student 2: (Shocked) I don't know! It sounded like it came from the boys' washroom!

They run toward the restroom where Zodiac is located. Upon entering, their eyes widen at the sight of blood everywhere, with body parts of three bullies scattered across the room, and Zodiac has vanished.

Student 2: OH MY GOSH!

Student 1: They are dead!

The scene shifts to Akira in her English class, frustrated as she works.

Akira: This is ridiculous! Why do we have to learn this crap?

Kyoka: I know, right? It's not like we'll use half of this stuff outside of school.

Akira: School is nothing but a waste of tim—

Suddenly, the school alarm goes off, startling everyone.

Akira: (Covering her ears) Owwwww! What the hell is that!?

Kyoka: It's the school alarm!

After a few moments, the secretary begins to make an announcement.

Secretary: Attention all teachers and students. Everyone must evacuate the building; we are on lockdown. I repeat, everyone must evacuate the building; we are on lockdown.

Student 1: Lockdown?

Mrs. Albby: You heard the announcement. Everyone get up and follow me.

Akira: What!?

Kyoka: Come on, Akira, let's go!

All the students leave their classes and head toward the field. As Akira looks around, she spots Ohma and the rest of her group and walks over to them.

Ohma: Akira!

Daru: There you are.

Himitsu: What the heck is going on?!

Akira: I don't know. You tell me, you idiot!

Hana: The school went on lockdown, but we still don't know why.

Akira: They better hurry up and find out! This alarm is really starting to annoy me!

Ohma: Is it just me, or are we missing someone?

Daru: Yeah, it's Zodiac. Where is he?

Himitsu: I didn't see him anywhere. Did you, Hana?

Hana: No, I didn't see him either.

Himitsu: Do you think he could still be inside the school?

Daru: Yeah, but for what reason?

After a brief moment of tension, they notice Zodiac approaching with his hands in his pockets.

Ohma: There you are! We've been looking for you!

Akira: What were you doing!?

Zodiac: None of your business.

Akira: What did you say?!

Zodiac: You heard me.

Daru observes something red on Zodiac's face.

Daru: Is that blood on your face?

Zodiac touches his cheek and wipes away the blood.

Zodiac: I just scraped myself, that's all.

Daru: Oh, really?

Zodiac: Yeah, is that a problem?

Himitsu begins to feel anxious.

Himitsu: Why do I have a bad feeling that you did something?

Zodiac: Just shut up. You're overreacting.

Boy Student 1: Three students died in the washroom!

Girl Student 1: What!? Are you serious!?

Boy Student 1: That's what I heard from others!

The group looks at Zodiac in disbelief.

Zodiac: Why are you all looking at me?

Daru: Zodiac, did you do something you weren't supposed to do? Answer me!

Zodiac: And what if I did?

Daru clenches his fists.

Daru: Don't tell me you did what I think you did!

Secretary: Attention all students, the school will be closed today due to an unfortunate incident. You are dismissed.

Hana: Wait, really?

Daru steps closer to Zodiac.

Daru: You've got some explaining to do!

Following the early dismissal, everyone returned to Hana's house and gathered in the living room.

Daru: (Slamming his hand on the table) Tell the truth! Did you kill those students?

Zodiac: (Arms crossed) Absolutely. They shouldn't have messed with me.

Hana looks shocked and frightened upon hearing this from Zodiac.

Himitsu: Huh!? You killed them!?

Ohma: Were they bad people?

Zodiac: Sure, Ohma. They were a group of bad students that left me with no other choice.

Ohma: Oh, then that makes sense.

Daru: No, Ohma! He's lying! You killed innocent people who shouldn't have been killed.

Zodiac: Innocent? Are you saying a group of no-good punks is innocent? I did the world a favor.

Akira: I don't see how what Zodiac did is a problem.

Daru: Yeah, because all you two care about is killing! Don't you remember we were on a mission to find out what's wrong with the soulless kids?

Akira: Who cares about this mission? It's all nonsense anyway!

Daru: I know this mission is nonsense! I hate being in school, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't help the students in danger!

Akira folds her arms.

Akira: Tch, whatever!

Daru: (Looking at Zodiac) You need to ease up on the killing! Think about the parents who will find out their sons are dead because of you!

Zodiac: Then the parents should have raised their kids better.

Daru, frustrated, slams his hand down on the desk, creating a significant dent, and begins to walk away from the group.

Zodiac: Hmfp.

Hana: Zodiac?

Zodiac turns to Hana, who appears visibly anxious.

Zodiac: What?

Hana: I know you guys probably operate differently since you're part of the Order of Triumph, but could you please refrain from killing any more students? I just want you to help me fix this situation. I don't want to lose my friends.

Zodiac remains silent.

Himitsu: Of course, Hana. We will do our best to find out who's behind this!

Ohma: We will fight until the very end!

Hana: Thank you, guys. That means a lot. Now that we've cleared that up, what did you find at that house?

Himitsu: Oh right! The house had some pretty nasty stuff in it, with animal guts everywhere. But we found a piece of paper with several names scratched out.

Himitsu retrieves the paper from his pocket and hands it to Hana.

Himitsu: When you read this, you'll be shocked.

Hana: Is this what you were talking about?

Akira: Can you just hurry up and read it?

Hana: Okay, okay!

Hana scans the paper and notes a long list of names that have been crossed out.

Hana: There are so many names marked out!

Himitsu: Keep looking.

As Hana continues to scrutinize the paper, she identifies Willy's name among those that have been crossed out.

Hana: Willy's name is on this list!

Ohma: Yeah! We were all surprised!

As Hana looks down, her eyes widen at five additional names that remain uncrossed, including her own.

Hana: M-my name is on here!

Himitsu: That's what will shock you.

Hana: But why!? I didn't do anything wrong!

Akira: You didn't. It's probably just some asshole targeting students for some reason.

Hana: Yes, but who could it be?

Daru: That's what we need to figure out, but thanks to Zodiac, we can't search for more clues.

They turn to see Daru walking back into the living room, visibly calmed.

Zodiac: Yeah, you're welcome.

Daru: How is Willy doing?

Hana: There hasn't been any progress with his illness.

Himitsu: So why don't they send him to the hospital?

Hana: They tried with the other sick students, but even the doctors have no idea what's wrong.

Daru: What? So they just let them attend school like everything is normal?

Hana: Essentially. They prefer not to invest time in this issue, opting to leave it unresolved. That's why I sought you out—because no one else would assist.

Akira: Well, we have another situation now that your name is on the list.

Ohma: Does that mean Hana will be next?

Daru: Most likely. Whoever it is will definitely target her next.

Hana: That reminds me. I heard a strange voice a while ago.

Himitsu: You did?

Hana: Yeah. A voice in my head saying, "Only 5 more, Hana."

Akira: A voice? What did it sound like?

Hana: I'm not entirely sure. It sounded creepy, like it was right behind me.

Daru: We can't let Hana be affected by this thing, whatever it is. We all have to keep an eye on her at all costs.

Himitsu: But what if we're not around her or in the same class?

Daru: That's fine. As long as she's near other students, she should be okay. We just can't leave her alone for too long.

Ohma: How about the school? Will it be open tomorrow?

Hana: It should be. But they'll definitely have to announce what happened.

Daru looks at Zodiac.

Zodiac: Can you stop staring at me before I kill you next?

Daru: Yeah, okay buddy. Maybe I should kill you first.

Zodiac: You won't even get the chance.

Himitsu: Oookay, let's not do this right now.

Zodiac stands up and heads to the kitchen.

Daru: Where are you going?

Zodiac does not respond and continues walking.

Himitsu: I think he's hungry.

At that moment, Ohma's stomach growls.

Ohma: Well, I'm hungry too! I haven't eaten since breakfast!

Akira: Same here.

Hana: Let's all grab something to eat. Maybe I'll order pizza.

Akira: Pizza? What's that?

Hana: Oh, you've never had pizza before?

Akira: That's why I'm asking you, stupid.

Daru and Himitsu chuckle.

Hana: Huh? What's so funny?

Daru: This crew is something else.
