Finding the Longbottoms
Once Professors Dumbledoor and Snape arrived Hazel got to work. She took out her Never-bottom-bag and took out several large potion bottles. She caused them to float to Madame Pompfry who immediately swirled her wand and with a puff two of the bottles were upside down and attached as IV's to Alice and Frank Longbottom left arms.
Hazel nodded and looked to Madame Pompfry. "Don't do more than two and a half bottles for Mrs. Longbottom and no more than three bottles for Mr. Longbottom and you can stop the drip five to ten minutes after they begin to stir."
Madame Pompfry nodded curtly and began monitoring her patients.
Hazel set in lotus position on the floor between the two beds. She closed her eyes and began to meditate.
She was about to do what she named a Mindcall. It was a type of Dream-mind technique that she developed. She was about to go out onto the dreamscape and find the actually mental faculties of these two individuals. She was hoping that they were either together or close together.
It would be easier that way, but she was also prepared hunt them down separately, either sending one on or tethering them to her as she looked for the other.
She was not sure how she would proceed until she actually saw and assessed the mental faculty in question. Consciousness could exist within the dreamscape with no issue while mental faculties sometimes became trapped on the dreamscape due to spells, incantations, hexes, or curses. They could also become trapped due to backlash from any of the aforementioned processes.
Hazel knew that the faculties of those hit with the Cruciatus curse were banished to the dreamscape. She also could tell how effected an individual's mental faculties may be effected by interacting with the body in reality.
The Longbottoms were mobile and verbal, they spoke nonsense but they still spoke, both indicated that their faculties were still intact but scrambled and disconnected so to speak.
Hazel knew she could find them as well because of their connection to Neville, and the fact that they were cursed by a Death Eater. Death Eaters were too intwined within her fate for anything of them on the dreamscape to escape her attention.
She awoke on the dreamscape but in a part that was warped and fragmented. She recognized it immediately and she surprised and suddenly worried. One of the mental faculties here meant they were on the verge of slipping beyond the veil. She could still reach them but you never knew how that experience would effect the psyche.
She only felt like one was in this area and she now understood why her spell brought her here first. She moved ebon wood wand through the air and runes arched before her. They burned into the sky above her and very slowly faded away. She felt something pool toward her. It was slow at first then it was fast and intense and suddenly it was on her.
She flinched as large grey blob rushed toward her with no hint of slowing down. Before it slammed into her body to possibly enter her being she strengthened her protection magic.
The grey blob bounced off of her to land directly at her right side. She shook her head.
"I don't mind you helping but you need to calm down."
The grey blob whined then waited expectantly. Again she shook her head then she turned as what she was waiting for neared and entered her range of perception.
It was the mental faculties of Frank Longbottom.
It didn't take long for his faculties to reach her. She frowned when she saw them. She understood why he was on the verge of passing through the veil. His mental faculties had reached their limits.
As soon as Frank Longbottom's mental faculties were in the view the grey blob gently engulfed it.
This was what was called a creature of imagination. They took on many forms. Sometimes what the person they wanted to please or interact with wanted to see or unique forms od their own creation. But they always knew what their chosen friend wanted.
Hazel watched as the grey blob radiated oscillating soft light around Frank Longbottom's mental faculties. As the lights pulsed the mental faculties strengthened. Hazel nodded in satisfaction.
In the waking world Hazel spoke. Her voice was ethereal and it sounded as if she were talking underwater and from within a deep cave.
"I have found Frank Longbottom. He is weak. He will need the special intensifying solution Professor Snape has. But just give him a drop at a time for now."
Everyone looked to Professor Snape as one. He nodded.
"I brought it with me as you asked. I have not been able to replicate it without you though so I only have two vials."
As he spoke two small pink vials appeared before him and moved to Madame Pompfry. Hazel did not reply but Augusta Longbottom frowned as she did.
"This young girl is this proficient in potions and spellwork?"
"Neville has the same potential but he does not know it. From this side of the plane I can tell that he is the one that kept his parents tethered until a solution can be found. Watch."
Her ethereal voice faded and a tone sounded in the room like a tuning fork was struck against a hollow metal and a thick fibrous stream of magic slowly revealed itself.
It slowly extended outward from Neville, split into a two branches and extended out to both of his parents. They all saw how the connection at Neville's end was strong and vibrant but the connection to his parents was dulled and faded, with Frank's connection being more faded than Alice's.
Augusta Longbottom stood and walked the length of the magical tether in silence. She turned and walked back to her seat and sat down. She never spoke a word but quietly took Neville's hand and in hers and pulled or into his lap.
Dumbledore spoke as he watched Madame Pompfry give one drop of the pink solution to the sleeping Frank Longbottom, his eyes going wide as the tether between the man and his son flared vibrantly purple.
"And in what dimension did you find the ingredients for this solution?"
"This is something I discovered at my academy in the Glass Caves."
Dumbledore nodded.
Frank Longbottom spoke in his sleep and all eyes went wide as they registered that he was coherent.
"I need to find my wife. I lost her and I miss her. Where is she?"
On the dreamscape Hazel gently touched the grey blob.
"We will go find her together. Stay with me so that you can strengthen and we will set things right."
"Set things right? Okay. I will stay with you if you can help me find her and I think that you can."
A wispy spirit body sat on a large lily pad high in the sky. It floated passed clouds disconnected to all around it. The spirit was that of a short plump woman a pretty round face and long wispy grey hair. She sat looking sadly down at the odd hills below her.
This was Alice Longbottom's mental faculties and it was well formed, strong and very cohesive. A very good sign that she would easily awaken once her faculties were reintroduced into her body.
Hazel and the grey blob were suddenly by her side. The blob gently took her in and formed a transparent wall between her and Frank and pulsing lights came to life around Alice. The two mental faculties pressed against the thin barriee between them in silence.
Several hours had passed in the patient room in Hogwarts. No one was nervous they were all patiently waiting for word from Hazel. Suddenly that same ethereal, underwater, coming from a deep cave voice sounded from her body.
"I just retrieved Alice's faculties. She is in much better shape than Frank but they were separated for a long time so I think their may ne mental damage while the soul is still very strong.
"I have a potion to help this. Let me get them both settled to start their stabilization and I will retrieve it for her."
Professor Snape sat on the edge of his seat but it was Madame Pompfry who spoke.
"You have a potion that can help with mental damage done to the mental faculties?"
She spoke incredulously because physical damage could be repaired to mental faculties, this simply dealt with healing the brain and that was now an easy thing when it was physical wounds, but mental damage usually meant that there was magic or psychological issues and those two things were near impossible to repair.
There was silence for a moment before Hazel opened her eyes with a smile on her face. She stood, stretched and walked toward Madame Pompfry.
"There are many things to discover in the other dimensions Madame Pompfry." As she spoke a dark amber vial appeared before her. This time she handed the vial to Madame Pompfry.
"It is very powerful. Only half a drop will be needed and we will wait and see how she responds and determine if she needs more. I am going to give them a little help from this side. To better prep their bodies for the transition."
Madame Pompfry nodded and prepared to administer the half drop of solution to Alice longbottom. Hazel sat on the floor between the beds but out of Madame Pompfry's way. She sat on her knees with her bottom resting on the soles of her feet. Augusta Longbottom watched her intently.
Madame Pompfry took the amber vial and her wand. She had the vial standing in the flat of her palm and moved her wand. The vial rose into the air and spun as if it was shaking itself up. It came upright again and quickly uncorked itself and a tiny drop of black liquid came out. The drop shimmered blue and green as it dashed to Alice Longbottom and slipped between her slightly parted lips.
Madame Pompfry nodded in satisfaction and smiled at Professor Snape who was looking at the vial before her with wide eyes and a gaping mouth. As soon as the vial was corked he took it into trembling hands. Madame Pompfry shook her head and focused on Hazel, preparing her wand in case she was needed.
