Chapter 7 - Chapter:7

Davia and Dave rested in the storage room of the first gym and tried to ignore the sounds of the faint growls behind the door.

"What happened out there", Dave asked finally breaking the silence. His question hung in the air unanswered, Davia pulled her knees closer to her chest wrapping her arms around them.

"Did you really kill her?", Dave asked again his voice low. Davia shook her head denying his words as tears trickled down her cheeks. Even though she knew deep down she left a friend to die, but it wasn't her fault, she didn't kill anyone, the infected did.

" I didn't kill anybody" Davia finally muttered.

" Yes you did!" Dave countered shouting. Davia flinched a little hearing him, the infected on the outside got louder as Dave shouted. The loud noises behind the door caught the attention of Dave as he eyed the door before pressing his lips. He knew the best thing now was to remain silent. He leans to the wall slowly dropping himself to the floor. He didn't want to be in the same room as Davia and wanted to get back to his friends, he decides to wait a little, waiting for the infected to probably wonder away. Davia remained silent on one side, she had just left her friend to die. She was scared of course, but the immediate action she took left her thinking in thought. They both remained quiet waltzing with their dancing thoughts secretly.

It would be dark soon and Dave wanted to leave badly, he sat in the corner shaking his leg impatiently. Dave strode with long steps to the door and slowly turned the handle and peeking through the cracked as it grew. It appears most of the infected had wondered away and he thought it was best he made a move now.

"I'm heading back" Dave said turning to Davia, he thought it was probably best to leave her behind, but he didn't want to be like her and abundant someone. He sighed heavily as a part of him really wanted to leave her behind. Davia didn't make any attempts to move and so Dave turned to the door to leave, thinking it was probably for the best. He once again slowly turned the door knob, looking through the gap he saw a path and decided he would make a move. Before he left he felt a heavy presence behind him and suspected Davia had made up her mind to join him. Dave counted to three backwards and upon saying three he ran with Davia who was right behind him. While Davia was running behind Dave she felt uneasy, some what feeling panic building up inside her. The way out of the gym was clear, but despite that it made her feel worried, she looked at Dave's head from behind and she knew exactly what was the cause of her worries.

They were close to the entrance now only a few steps away and suddenly Dave heard a thud behind him followed by a scream. He swung his head around seeing Davia on the floor crying in pain and the nightmares that trampled closer. Dave held his breath, he thought maybe he should simply leave her behind as the infected were getting closer, but the thought of abandoning her made his gut tighten. He was belittling her only a few minutes ago and now he wanted to take the same actions she displayed. Dave ran to her lifting her to her feet and pulling her to the door, Davia limped as they moved but she was still keeping up the pace, they were now only a step from the door when Davia suddenly swirled around and pushed Dave onto the infected. Dave was caught off guard as he fell onto the infected, he wished he hadn't turned back to help her and as he watch Davia sped off he now noticed her fall earlier was a lie, that he had been deceived.

"You bitch" Dave cursed as he was gobbled up by the infected, but as his flesh got ripped from his bones and the hungry teeth's that sank onto his flesh he did not cry or agonized, all he wished was that Davia would die.

Davia ran out the gym heading to the opening that led back to school grounds, dodging all the infected she encountered, all she knew was that she didn't want to die. Davia managed to reach back to the hall the classroom was on and as she was getting close she saw a boy on the opposite end, she knew they left as a group earlier and he went with Felix, which she didn't see with him. The boy went to the classroom door knocking on it.

" It's us"

The door slowly slid open with enough space for them to enter. They entered the class shutting the door behind them, it was quiet as everyone stood at one side of the classroom. Five students went out and two returned which could only mean one thing. Ben scanned the heads of everyone and didn't see Felix, Ben could only wonder if he was still outside. Alexander walked over to the two asking if they were okay, being the first person to take charge.

"Where're the others ?" Alexander asked, even though there was enough evidence to accumulate an answer of his own.

Davia started crying with little to no tears as she hiccupped. Her friends then rushed over taking her in their arm and trying to calm her down. As Davia was surrounded by others she thought it was a good thing she got rid of Dave or else if he had returned, he would have told everyone what happened and then she would have been an outcast.

"What's that around your back Ben?" a student asked.

"Oh I managed to grab some snacks" Ben answered taking the two bags from behind him. Someone pushed through the students and went in front of Ben.

"Where is Dave?" the large boy asked.

" Dave…" Ben said repeating the name before answering. " I don't know", before Ben could explain further Bryan grabbed onto his collar pulling closer.

" What you mean you don't know? Didn't you all leave together?" Bryan barked. Ben didn't surrender as he grasped Bryan's collar in response.

" Wait Bryan" sad girl that was close to him from behind.

" Listen men why don't you let me finish" Ben said sizing up the Bryan. They both stared at one another as if it was some intense competition.

" Calm down now gentle man" Alexander said with a light tone, patting both boys on the shoulder. They both took a second before releasing their grip.

" As I was saying. We slipped up, I went with Felix and your friend went with Davia and the other girl. So if you want to ask something ask her" Ben answered.

Davia was still cradled in her friends arms crying, but Bryan didn't care, he wanted answers.

" Where's Dave?" Bryan asked in a demanding tone as he stormed over to the girls. In response Davia only shuddered and tightened herself onto her friends.

" Can't you see she's scared, give her some time to at least calm down before you bombard her with questions. If you really care for your friend so much you wouldn't have stayed here sucking your thumb" a girl raged out as if she had a lot of built up tension, Davia felt pleased that she had someone to defend her, if Dave had made it she would probably be in a corner, being shunned, being hated, being an outcast. As she was feeling pleased in her victory she suddenly locked eyes with Alexander and it made her shudder.

Everyone remained quiet not wanting to get involved. Bryan wanted to snap back but before he could he felt his arm being held by someone. Audrey held his arm, shaking her head in a manner telling him to calm down. Bryan looked around before pulling his hand away and walking back to one side of the classroom.

" Well I have snacks" Ben said trying to ease the tension. He was tired and frustrated and couldn't handled everyone being gloomy and silent.

" Yeah we should share it" Alexander added walking beside Ben. Both boys went around handing a snack to a student, no one was really in the mood for eating, but they couldn't deny they were hungry.

"Poor Misty" one of the girls said.

" Felix too, they all died" another student added.

" No one really liked him anyways"

" You're wrong, a madman like Felix wouldn't die so easy" Ben added involving himself in the conversation as he overheard them. "He's a real madman" Ben said again as the actions of Felix flashed in his mind.

Felix slowly opened his eyes, his vision slightly blurred, the atmosphere felt different, somewhat cooler. There was a low sound as if someone was fighting to breathe, a hallow sound, a sound similar to wheezing. Felix felt something cold touch his face and then the same feeling again somewhere different on his face. An familiar stench that filled his nostril. Felix came to realization as he flung his eyes open and above him there was an infected looking down at him.
