Karlos and Zalario stood facing each other, battered but grinning wide. The energy swirling around them distorted the very air, cracks forming in the ground beneath from sheer pressure alone.
"Looks like it's time to end this," Karlos said, his voice steady, filled with excitement.
Zalario chuckled, brushing a strand of hair away from his face. "One final blow, no holding back," he said, lifting his sword that shimmered with pure judgment energy.
This is it.
Both of them roared, magicules and spiritrons exploding around them like miniature suns. The sky above trembled as Karlos' Abyss King "Nox" devoured the light around him, while Zalario's Lord of Judgement "Israfel" blazed brighter than ever.
In an instant, both launched forward, clashing with all the power they could muster.
BOOOOOOOMâ!!
The world around them exploded into a dome of pure destruction and energy, the shockwave blowing back even my hair despite the barrier I hastily reinforced.
When the dust finally cleared, the two warriors were still standing⌠barely. Their swords had shattered, their cloth tattered. But both wore the same wild, satisfied smile.
"It's a draw," Zalario said, breathing heavily but laughing.
"Yeah," Karlos agreed, chuckling lowly. "You're strong. I'm glad we fought."
The two looked at each other as equals.
From that moment, a bond was formed between Karlos and Zalarioâa bond of warriors who respect each other.
Good thing both of them respect each other.
Then I removed the barrier, the dome of magic dispersing into shimmering particles as the pressure finally lifted from the air.
I took a few casual steps forward, hands behind my back, and walked toward the two figures who now stood amid a cratered battlefieldâscorched earth, shattered cliffs, and deep gouges running for miles in every direction.
Zalario's armor was scratched and steaming, his wings flickering slightly, while his eyes were still gleaming with excitement. Karlos, despite the mess of his clothes and torn gloves, wore a smirk
"Wow," I said with a chuckle, glancing at the smoking horizon behind them. "You guys did quite a lot of collateral damage."
Karlos coughed politely, straightening his vest. "Apologies, my lord⌠I may have gotten a little carried away."
Zalario laughed, a deep, honest sound that echoed through the broken landscape. "I haven't had that much fun in centuries."
I grinned. "Glad you had your fun."
Then, just as we turned to leaveâ
RUMMMMMMBLE!!
The ground beneath our feet trembled violently, splitting in jagged lines. Mountains in the distance cracked like dry clay, and the skies darkened unnaturally, swirling with clouds not born of weather but something else.
"The hell?" I muttered, my eyes narrowing as a massive tremor surged through the earth againâthis time stronger. Birds scattered from the trees miles away, and magic in the air began to distort, screaming.
Karlos immediately moved in front of me, his aura flaring with instinct. Zalario's wings shot open as his eyes sharpened, sensing something ancient and ominous.
"No⌠this isn't natural," Zalario said, voice low and tense.
Mimir's voice echoed in my head, alarmed for once: "Lad⌠A strong individual has awakened."
A massive crack burst open in the ruined land nearbyâpulsing with dark red light.
Whatever this was⌠It wasn't done with us yet.
Then, just as the rumbling settled for a mere moment, Zalario's expression changed. His body stiffened slightly as he received a telepathic linkâhis eyes glowing faintly with divine light.
A deep, calm, but clearly troubled voice echoed in his mind: "Zalario, this is FledWay. Emergency orders. The mad Giant King Ashura has awakened. He's gone berserk. We are barely holding him off. Lord Veldanava himself has ordered us Primordials to respond. If we don't stop him now, the Cardinal World will fall."
Zalario's jaw tightened.
He immediately turned to me. "Velsun," he said, voice urgent, "I've received an emergency summons. The mad Giant King Ashura has awakened. The cardinal world is on the brink of collapse. I've been ordered to report to the battlefieldâimmediately."
The moment I heard the name Ashura, a sense of realization washed over me.
Ashura⌠Yeah, right. It was the guy who was divided into three parts, and one of them was a demon lord, a rival of Veldora, in the future, so this is the time he is awakened.
I didn't hesitate. "I'm coming with you."Â
There's no way I'm leaving this opportunity.
Zalario looked surprised but didn't argue. He nodded, clearly relieved.
I turned toward Karlos.
"Karlos," I said gently but firmly, "I need you to stay and guard Solara."
He bowed deeply, though his eyes shimmered. "As you command, my Lord. I will protect it with my life."
And with that, Karlos vanished in a flicker of dark light, heading back toward Solara. Zalario opened a portal to the divine battlefieldâenergy so dense it twisted the air itself.
"Wait, Zalario," I called out, and Zalario stopped, puzzled, and looked at me.
"You are currently completely exhausted from the fight; let me heal you first."
I put my hand forward to use my true dragon magic to heal him, and a glow of golden yellowish light released from my palm.
And Zalario was completely healed.
His eyes widened for a bit, then he looked towards his hand and clenched it. Then nodded towards me. I nodded back with a smile.
But internally I was taken aback.
Healing an angel of origin to peak is not easy; even with Mimir's efficiency and passive absorption of magicules from sunlight, it took quite a toll.
Then I looked at my hand and clenched it.Â
but nothing I can't manage; it will replenish soon.
I took a breath. "Ashura⌠Let's see from what matter you are made of."
Then Zalario and I stepped throughâinto war.
Then, in a blink of light and distortion, Zalario and I stepped onto the battlefield.
The very air shook with power.
A vast mountainous plain stretched before us, scarred, burning, and cracked. Uncountable giants, each towering like living mountains, marched forward with thunderous steps. Their eyes glowed with madness, and every swing of their weapons shattered the earth.
And in the middle of it all, six of the seven primordial angels were fighting desperately. Each one radiated impossible power, holding back the hordes with everything they had.
Off to the side, lazily floating in the air with a bored, half-slouched posture, was none other than Dino, the Sleepy Seraph.
"Ughh... why do I have to deal with all this heavy lifting..." he muttered with a sigh, dodging a massive boulder thrown his way with casual annoyance. "What a Drag..."
But the moment Zalario and I arrived, the tide pausedâif only for a breath.
One of the angels, Cornu, noticed us immediately and nodded. "Zalario, you came."
Zalario nodded back and said calmly, "Velsun is with me."
I scanned the field. The true threat... where is he?
And then I saw it. He was 15 or 20 meters tall, matching the size of a true dragon like myself; it was the mad king of giants.
His body was wrapped in crimson chains of divine sealing magic, some shattered, some fraying. His eyes glowed.
"ASHURA..." I muttered. So this is the so-called Mad Giant King.
The battlefield awaited its next shiftâand we had just arrived to deliver it.
As I stood beside Zalario, watching the battlefield shatter under the weight of divine and monstrous power, my eyes locked onto the towering figure in the distance.
Ashura.
A three-headed catastropheâa being so powerful that Elder Brother Veldanava himself had to intervene personally. He didn't defeat Ashura in the traditional sense. No... he split himâdivided his essence into three parts just to stop the world from breaking.
I clenched my fists as memories flowed through me
"One of those fragments⌠Draguel⌠he went on to become a True Demon Lord."
And now⌠the original was here.
Even for me⌠this wasn't going to be a walk in the park.
I narrowed my eyes as one of Ashura's three heads turned in our directionâits blue iris locking onto me, the jaw curling upward in a feral grin. The pressure of his gaze alone felt like gravity had tripled.
