Chapter 27 - Lose our guard again

"You're not planning on telling anyone? Not a single one of them?" Megan asked, her voice tinged with concern as she carefully removed the diagnosing equipment from Ava's slender arm.

She lingered for a moment, her fingers trembling slightly, before lifting her head to meet Ava's weary gaze. Their eyes locked in a silent standoff, heavy with unsaid words and worries clinging to the air.

Ava let out a weary sigh, turning her face away from the harsh fluorescent lights that made the hospital room feel both unforgiving and barren.

"Seriously, Megan? I can't go through this conversation with you again," she replied, the exhaustion rendering her tone sharper than she intended, even as she shifted uncomfortably on the stiff bed.
