He didn't answer.
Only the low, dangerous hum of his rage vibrated through the darkness, shaking her bones. The shadows trembled as if torn between ripping the cave apart and curling closer around her like frightened animals.
Her eyes softened. Something clicked inside her heart.
Shadows were born from him.
Shadows obeyed him.
Shadows were him.
And if they held her this gently, even in his fury, then he hadn't lost control completely.
So she slowly raised her arms and wrapped them around the dark tendrils, hugging them as if they were a scared child instead of the extension of a raging demon lord.
The shadows stiffened at the unexpected touch.
"Dante," she whispered, caressing them with steady fingers, "look at me. Calm down. That man didn't kidnap the babies. They helped him. Please… come back."
