Chapter 11 - A month in Jail

The doors to the room we snuck into as naive teens burst open. Six magic knights and their squires flooded the room. Their eyes went from the squished student, the puddle of blood, the wide eyed student with dyed cheeks and lastly, the screeching horror at the center of the room.

"Good gods!" one of the mages gasped.

One of the Knights rushed me. He grabbed me by the collar, forcing me off the ground. He shook me as he asked, "What happened? What did you idiots do?"

"We… tried… to summon a bat." I burst into tears. I didn't want all of this to happen. None of us did. None of us wanted to die. None of us wanted to be mutilated. None of us wanted this.

The magic knight dropped, letting me sink to the floor.

I hid my face behind my hands as I heard them shout commands at each other. "Surround it!"

"Don't let it flap its wings! If we let the damned thing get away, the whole kingdom is at risk!"

"Great! All at once, purify it with the radiance spell."

There were a series flashes of light that spilled between my fingers. I tried hard not to see them kill my classmate, my mind took the opportunity to render its own depiction of what happened.

I heard my classmate's body hit the floor. It was a heavy sound, like the boulder that squished my first classmate. The heavy pressure in the air vanished, sucked away the instant she was felled.

The rest of the day was a blur for me. I was dragged to the royal courtroom. I remembered pleading for mercy, explaining what had happened. I don't remember anything after that. I just remember waking up in a cell, and being led out of the dungeon.

"You should be lucky our current king is merciful. You should have rotted in there for life!" the guard shoved me onto the street, he dropped my belongings at my feet.
