I was scared.
It all happened so suddenly.
We were just having dinner—me, Mom, and Dad. It was a good day. I went fishing with Dad. We brought back some fish and grilled them—my favorite.
I was laughing, telling Mom what happened at the lake.
Sure, Dad had a debt to pay, but other than that, we were fine. We were happy.
But then... everything changed.
A few men came out of nowhere. They started killing people—burning homes, shouting curses.
Dad tried to hide us, but he was too late.
Someone stabbed him.
Why? Why did they stab him? They weren't debt collectors... they were strangers. So why did they kill him?
My mind went blank. I couldn't move. My legs shook as I watched my father fall right in front of me.
It wasn't a dream.
His blood—warm and thick—ran over my toes. A cold shiver climbed up my spine.
This was real. He was gone.
And the man who killed him turned to us.
He was going to kill us too.
