c128: I Would Like To Call You A Friend of Women!!
The Pokémon Summer Camp is a landmark cross-regional cultural exchange initiative between Kanto and Kalos, jointly organized by Professor Samuel Oak's Laboratory and Professor Bratano's Institute. Even before it officially began, the camp drew significant attention from trainers, researchers, and media outlets across both regions.
However, on just the second day of the summer camp, a serious student safety incident occurred. During the previous day's fishing activity, Xiaohao a promising camper from Kanto was attacked by a wild Gyarados and had to be rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
The incident caused a media firestorm, thrusting the Pokémon Summer Camp into the center of public scrutiny. News of the accident dominated headlines, not only across Viridian City and Pewter but even reaching Lumiose City and other major cities in Kalos. As a result, people everywhere began closely following updates about the camp organized by Professor Oak.
Today marked the first day that a TV station was formally allowed on-site for live media coverage, and countless parents, trainers, and curious viewers tuned in eagerly to the broadcast.
While Yoko, the station's rising field reporter, interviewed camp staff and trainees, nearly every person she spoke to mentioned the same name with overwhelming admiration: Ash Ketchum.
The praise was near-universal. In front of their screens, parents of students and general audiences alike were filled with curiosity and excitement to learn more about this exceptional student a boy praised by both his peers and instructors.
At last, when Yoko managed to sit down for a one-on-one interview with Ash, all eyes turned toward the screen. The camera focused on the boy with sharp black hair and determined eyes. His calm confidence and attractive features instantly captivated the viewers, ensuring that the name Ash wouldn't soon be forgotten.
Ash began the interview with a concise self-introduction. Yoko then gently asked about the origin of his lofty ambition.
To her surprise and everyone else's delight Ash responded with a straight face and firm voice:
> "As a Trainer... if you're not aiming to be the World's Mightiest, if you don't plan on becoming a Pokémon Master... then why not just go home and sell sweet potatoes?"
The blunt sincerity of this statement, combined with Ash's slightly cocky delivery, instantly won the hearts of viewers. His logic was unorthodox, but undeniably charming.
"Puchi~!||"
Unable to hold it in, Yoko broke into spontaneous laughter, revealing two rows of neat, white teeth. Her laughter was warm and genuine, much like the boy in front of her.
Yoko: "Brother Ash, you're so funny and cute! I've heard from the other campers and counselors that before entering summer camp, you had a habit of sleeping in. But now you're up at 6:30 every day to exercise before dawn?"
"What changed? What makes you work so hard?" she asked, holding the mic out toward Ash again.
Ash hesitated for a moment.
Ash: "Emmm... I guess it's kind of embarrassing, but just like the others told you, I did have a habit of sleeping late before coming here."
He scratched the back of his head sheepishly and continued.
"A few days ago, when the Kalos students arrived, Professor Oak asked us to greet them outside Pallet Town. I overslept and arrived late. It was honestly humiliating."
He glanced at the ground before lifting his eyes again with a faint smile.
"That very night, I had a weird dream…"
"I dreamed it was the day I turned 10 and officially became a Trainer. But instead of getting ready, I stayed in bed until the sun was high in the sky. I didn't even have time to change clothes I raced to Professor Oak's Lab in my pajamas to get my starter Pokémon and left for my journey dressed like that."
Ash shook his head, almost amused by his own subconscious.
"That's not how someone who wants to be the Pokémon World's Mightiest Trainer should act."
"Since entering camp, I've been determined to fix that. So I've been getting up at 6:30 every day for morning exercises."
Then, with a soft chuckle, he added:
"Though… to be honest, it's not just willpower. Bubble Frog my Froakie jumps on my face every morning to wake me up."
After finishing his explanation, Ash scratched the back of his head with an awkward grin but that slight embarrassment only made Yoko and the live audience watching the broadcast collectively cry out, "Kawaii!"
"Haha… so that's it. Brother Ash, you're so honest and adorable," Yoko chuckled as she covered her mouth, trying to contain her laughter.
"Thanks… but I'd be happier if you called me handsome instead of cute," Ash replied with a half-pout, his expression both serious and shy.
"Heehee~ Handsome and cute Brother Ash," Yoko teased playfully. "I heard from other campers and staff that you've also mastered a form of Psychic that can heal injuries is that true?"
"Yeah… that's true." Ash didn't try to hide it. He simply nodded and admitted it without hesitation.
His answer sent a ripple of awe through the live audience.
"Wow, Brother Ash, that's amazing! Can you give us a little demonstration of your Psychic?" Yoko leaned in eagerly, her eyes bright with curiosity.
"Most people only know telekinesis or mental communication when it comes to Psychic power I've never seen a healing-type before!"
Ash hesitated for a brief second. "Emmm… that's no problem. But, uh… Sister Yoko, do you happen to have a wound? Even a mosquito bite will do."
"Yes, yes!" Yoko lit up. "When I went to the forest earlier to interview a group filming a short Poké-video, a thorn scratched my arm and drew blood."
She rolled up her sleeve and peeled off a small bandage from her wrist, revealing a two-centimeter-long shallow bleeding wound.
"Brother Ash, do you think you can heal this?" she asked, holding out her arm with a hopeful smile.
"Of course! No problem." Ash nodded. He gently placed his hand over the wound, focused his energy, and mentally invoked the power of Viridian—a rare, natural ability only a few in history had ever shown, including Green in the Pokémon Adventures manga.
"Healing technique."
As Ash silently activated his ability, a gentle emerald-green glow enveloped his hand. The camera zoomed in close to catch the moment.
The television audience watching at home collectively held their breath. Although Psychic power in humans was known especially in cities like Saffron its practical use in healing was almost unheard of.
The power that emanated from Ash's palm wasn't just Psychic it was Viridian Energy, a unique force deeply attuned to nature and Pokémon. In the manga, such energy is associated with the ability to sense and heal Pokémon, a gift Ash appears to have extended to people as well.
In real time, under the soft, vibrant glow of the Viridian aura, the bleeding wound on Yoko's wrist rapidly closed up, fading cleanly without a trace. Within seconds, even the redness vanished, as if the injury had never happened.
"W-wow! That's incredible! There's not even a scar left!" Yoko exclaimed, eyes wide in amazement.
"Brother Ash… why are you becoming a Trainer? With Psychic like that, you could become the most popular cosmetic surgeon in the Pokémon World!" she teased, staring at him like she had just uncovered a legendary treasure.
"Double eyelid procedures… facial contouring… C-section scar healing..." she murmured dramatically, motioning at her flawless wrist.
"With your healing Psychic, Brother Ash, you could become the number-one friend of women—and maybe the greatest surgeon in all of Kanto!"
The live chat across the TV broadcast blew up instantly:
"I've decided I'm his fan now!"
"He's talented, cute, and kind please let him open a healing clinic!"
"A Trainer? No! He's clearly the Healer of Viridian Forest!
"This is the power of a main character!!"
Even the on-site crew could be heard stifling laughter and gasps in the background. Ash, meanwhile, looked completely confused by all the attention.
But…
Light…
