The smell of burning sulphur tingled the inside of Riven's nose; it burned the back of his throat. It was an unpleasant feeling, but it also made his mind leap for joy. Why? Because he wasn't dead, maybe.
Suddenly, his ears were filled with the wailing sounds of people, or at least that's what they sounded like.
He opened his eyes. His pupils burned the moment they were exposed; pain filled them. It was so dry he couldn't even cry. He tried to blink, and it hurt like hell.
"Where am I?" He looked at the ceiling of the place he was in. It was made of black bricks, with arches going across from one side to the other.
"You are awake, finally." A deep and calm voice reached his ears. It was filled with confidence and power.
Immediately, Riven got on his feet and looked up. There he saw a man in a perfect black suit, sitting behind an office desk at the end of a hall that looked like a throne room.
