The peace didn't last for long.
It wasn't a flood or even a leftover of a noisy cell, but a delicate touch that the lattice barely noticed compared to the chaos of previous skirmishes. The warning didn't get to the internal pathways quickly enough and by the time Lucifer heard it, the specialised team had made their way into the palaces secondary service paths.
"Maybe five. No heavy armor mass. Advanced binding profile. They are not pushing for the recovery halls. They are angling toward Lucifer's last marked position."
Lucifer was halfway across the top linking corridor between the western gate and medical wings when he heard the warning. The rib seals were still fresh and the remnants of the gold light from helping move Damaris still lingered at his hands. This was what he had been waiting for. The aftermath of the commotion, the expenditure of energy and the busy board.
"I am moving to you." Nyx called from an alternate path.
