Alex could feel the urgency of the situation as he fended off the attacks form multiple skeleton while trying to close in on the undead knight. he would throw whatever he could get his hand on towards the undead knight like the bones and skulls of the skeleton he was fighting or random rocks and branches that he snapped off the trees.
the undead knight now armed with the axe would destroy anything thrown at it. although burning on flames, the undead knight refused to die before finishing casting the skill.
at the last moment, alex finally finished off the two skeleton standing in his way as he jumped out of the encirclement of the skeletons and landed right against the undead knight. Unfortunately it was too late and before he could swing the thigh bone at the head of the undead knight finished chanting the final line and stopped. alex could feel the chill in his spine as the undead knight, at it's last breath while burning pointed his finger at alex.
the mana ball which was supposed to go into the sky to attract the undeads from around the area, went towards alex and hit him squarely in his chest. Alex expected to get hurt but instead of pain, he felt a chill. A strange deathly chill which made him shiver as a notification attracted his attention.
[Warning]
[You have been targeted with the skill 'Death's Mark'. Undeads around you are attracted to you and would go to any lengths to kill you.]
[Duration - 1 Year]
Before he could process the notification, another notification came just behind the first one.
[Congratulations, you have slain the keeper of the Elenore Manor - Undead Knight Grimbane]
[Data received on Elenore Manor]
[Receive the Axe of Grimbane - Windslicer]
[Level +1]
[Elenore Manor - This is message of the Princess Elenore to whoever finds my resting place. who i was probably won't matter to you, after the clash of ten thousand worlds, i do not know where my legacy would end up but know this, i was betrayed. you can have my legacy but in return i ask only one thing from you. Kill Balthasar Hartford. He was the strongest undead in our world, his strength knows no bounds and to protect the legacy of my world, i was forced to separate my manor from my home world and leave in search of a better place. unfortunately my time was up as we landed in the undead plane. the death mana of this world was too powerful so i had to give up my life to protect the legacy. My body contained enough mana to protect the legacy for many millennia. i hope to find a good successor to use the legacy.]
There was other information in there but alex couldn't care less. he needed to escape right now as the undeads would be closing in on him. He rushed towards the castle like structure to retrieve whatever was this elenore's legacy and get out of there.
soon he reached the castle and entered inside. there were some low level skeletons inside but he was able to deal with them after the level up and receiving the windslicer axe. His strikes were perfect and precise as he send every skeleton's head flying and cracked some of the skeleton's bones into pieces.
Alex finally reached the inner chamber as he could see two huge metal doors open leading into a big hall. he swiftly ran inside and closed the doors shut. the doors were heavy and only after pushing with all his might that he was able to close them. he pushed the huge wooden block to stop the doors from being opened.
Alex could finally calm down as he moved inside the hall. the hall looked like a long abandoned royal palace hall. he slowly sit down on the couch to get some rest as he opened the notification.
The message was kept short but still there was a huge amount of information that he needed to process. after reading for about 10 minutes, he got the whole picture. Elenor's world was a prosperous world but one evil guy ruined it all, the princess was one of the strongest mage decided to escape the protect the legacy. unfortunately for them, the first world she encountered while travelling in void was undead world which followed a completely different set of rules. Her seemingly infinite mana was of no use. her knights and the other mages that arrived with her died one by one and became undead.
all the high level mages decided to give all their mana to the princess and protect the legacy from falling in wrong hands. Elenore changed her body into a vassal for the legacy and fell into eternal sleep. later the clash of the ten thousand world as described in the legacy happened and the mages without mana became ordinary undeads, the knights became undead soldiers and the strongest of the knight became undead knight grimbane. Grimbane being the strongest of the group now, put the key to open the Manor in his body and waited. for hundreds of years until this day when the planes shifted and the manor landed in the Ghoul root forrest.
Alex felt there there were many things that didn't make sense, life the Elenore person who could travel the worlds, or the fact that she had enough mana to protect the legacy for many millenniums. if such person existed today, she would be among the strongest hunters. He decided to put all of this at the back of his head as he quickly dressed his wounds and finished a meal. he was so tired that he quickly fell asleep right after eating.
the comfort of the couch felt so good that alex woke up after 12 hours of sleep. he could hear the faint rattle of the undeads outside the door but the sturdy doors surprisingly held off the undeads outside. alex was alert for any danger all night and he had heard his fair share of stories where the overconfident or overly greedy hunters had died unexpected deaths. he wanted to be in top condition to receive this legacy so he decided to take a long break.
His body was now in top condition and he was even stronger than before due to level up so he decided to move further inside the manor. the manor looked small from the outside but from inside, it was huge. there were walls decorated with various paintings and alex saw many prominent figures in the paintings.
He entered one of the rooms in the main hall and in the information it said that there was a hidden pathway leading to the basement where the legacy was kept inside a locker room. the data also mentioned the traps and some tests he had to take along the way as alex tried to open the room.
The door was locked as alex looked at the door handle. there was a key hole there and he assumed that he was supposed to look for the key. without wasting any time, he lit up the outline of the door and used immolate. the door burst into flames as alex smiled.
'a convenient skill to have.' he said as the door slowly burned more and more. Alex saw the flames spreading to the walls but he didn't care. The skill also gave him immunity to the flames so even if the whole manor was on fire, he would be fine.
he kicked the weak door with all his strength as the door was sent flying in the room. as he entered inside, he got the know for the first time what life of the luxury could be like. there were glass windows and marble floor. a beautiful bed and furniture made of rose white wood of unknown origin. there was a crystal chandelier that shone with its own light as it filled the room with gentle cool white light.
The room was so beautiful that alex was tempted to put out the fire burning behind him. fortunately, the walls did not have any material for flames to burn so the fire was slowly dying down. Alex moved through the room as on the wall opposite to the bed, there was a portrait of a beautiful woman. the woman looked to be in her twenties and all that alex could say about her was one word, beautiful. 'a standard princess template' alex thought as he assumed that this must be the room of princess Elenore.
The beautiful clothes in the cabinets and rose gold and rose white colour scheme confirmed that much. he then stopped observing the room as he focused on finding the hidden path to the basement. the data said that the hidden path was where no one would dare to enter without process's permission . alex ran his brain but couldn't think of an answer. he was already in princess's bedroom and the sentence fit the description as no one would be able to enter the bedroom of the princess without her permission.
