"Amelia, go ahead and capture that Tyrantrum first," Jacob said in a calm voice.
While giving instructions to Amelia, he shifted his attention toward the Aerodactyl hovering above them.
When facing a King-level Aerodactyl, Jacob needed to concentrate all his focus on the battle. He simply couldn't spare any attention for the unconscious Tyrantrum lying on the ground, which was why he asked Amelia to handle its capture.
Seeing the Aerodactyl that had suddenly appeared, Amelia decided not to bring up the poaching issue again. In such a dangerous situation, she knew better than to cause any distractions. Instead, she quietly pulled out a Poké Ball and threw it at the Tyrantrum on the ground, being careful not to disturb Jacob's intense battle preparation.
"Step back and stay alert," Jacob warned Amelia.
In a battle against a King-level Pokémon, even someone as experienced as Jacob had to exercise extreme caution. A single mistake could result in complete defeat. His hand was already positioned on Iron Valiant's Poké Ball, ready to release it immediately if the situation took a turn for the worse.
Amelia followed Jacob's instruction without question and quietly moved to a position behind him.
"Alakazam, are you ready for this?" Jacob turned his gaze to his Pokémon and asked. Alakazam had just finished a previous battle and had clearly used up considerable stamina.
Alakazam gave a determined nod, indicating that it was prepared to continue fighting. It then extended its Psychic power outward, using the energy to lock onto Aerodactyl's position in the darkness.
Without Psychic abilities to guide it, Alakazam would be at a severe disadvantage in the pitch-black environment of the Underground World.
At the same time, Jacob released his Indeedee from its Poké Ball. As soon as Indeedee materialized, Psychic-type energy flowed out from its body, and its Psychic Surge ability immediately activated, transforming the battlefield into Psychic Terrain.
The Psychic Terrain would provide Alakazam with a helpful boost in battle. While the enhancement wasn't massive, every small advantage could increase their chances of victory.
"Roar!"
The Aerodactyl in the darkness let out a thunderous roar as it looked down at Jacob and Alakazam. The sound seemed to be a declaration of its dominance, announcing that it was the undisputed ruler of this territory.
Its piercing blue eyes fixed on both Alakazam and Jacob with unmistakable hostility. The gaze it directed at these intruders who had dared to enter its domain was filled with pure killing intent and bloodthirsty hunger.
Aerodactyl beat its wings with tremendous force. In the complete darkness, Jacob could only hear the rushing sound of air being displaced. As he strained to listen, the sound grew louder and closer with each passing second.
Alakazam positioned itself protectively in front of Jacob, adopting an aggressive stance and preparing to strike at any moment.
"Roar!"
In the blink of an eye, Aerodactyl swooped down and appeared directly in front of Alakazam. Its wings were shrouded in Flying-type energy as it slashed toward Alakazam's body, executing a powerful Wing Attack.
"Alakazam, use Stone Edge!" Jacob commanded with steady composure.
One of Aerodactyl's key weaknesses was Rock-type moves, and Alakazam happened to have mastered the devastating Stone Edge technique.
Rock-type energy surged through Alakazam's body as it took control of the loose stones scattered across the ground. The rocks rose into the air and shot toward Aerodactyl like projectiles.
However, this particular Aerodactyl possessed incredible speed. Thanks to its Sturdy ability, it completely ignored the incoming Stone Edge attack, moving through the air like a military fighter jet. It flew directly through the barrage of stones and continued its aggressive charge toward Alakazam.
As Aerodactyl's Wing Attack came slashing down at Alakazam, the ancient Pokémon simultaneously opened its massive jaws and lunged forward to bite at Alakazam's neck, clearly aiming for a killing blow.
Alakazam's reflexes were remarkably quick. It swiftly brought its right arm across its body to block Aerodactyl's Wing Attack, then immediately leaped backward to avoid the snapping jaws.
Aerodactyl was known to be a Pokémon with an exceptionally brutal and bloodthirsty nature. It preferred to use its razor-sharp, saw-like teeth to tear through the throats of its prey.
Its Wing Attack, sharp claws, and keen fangs were all deadly weapons. Its close-range combat abilities were extraordinarily strong, while its special attack capabilities were notably weaker.
Jacob could see that Alakazam was beginning to struggle in the exchange. Engaging in close-quarters combat with the savage Aerodactyl was clearly not the wisest strategy.
Alakazam's strength in close combat came from precise strikes and refined technique, not from raw physical power or brute force exchanges.
"Alakazam, execute Swords Dance!"
When raw strength wasn't sufficient, it was necessary to rely on stat-boosting moves to level the playing field.
Upon hearing Jacob's command, Normal-type energy flowed through Alakazam's body, surrounding it completely. With momentum building like a rainbow, Alakazam performed an intricate battle dance that significantly increased its attack power.
"Roar!"
Aerodactyl released an furious roar. It had no intention of giving Alakazam any opportunity to recover or strengthen itself. The ancient Pokémon beat its wings and surrounded its body with Flying-type energy, then charged ferociously toward Alakazam, determined to interrupt the Swords Dance boost.
Having just completed its Swords Dance, Alakazam immediately followed up with Protect to block Aerodactyl's aggressive assault. Then, building on the momentum and leveraging its newly enhanced attack power, it launched a fierce counterattack.
"Alakazam, Ice Punch!"
Although the move was called Ice Punch, it appeared more like an ice-covered sword technique. The retractable blade at Alakazam's elbow began to glow with a brilliant blue light as Ice-type energy flowed into the weapon, instantly radiating intense cold.
Wielding the frozen blade at its elbow, Alakazam launched a determined assault on Aerodactyl. The scene resembled a legendary dragon-slaying warrior armed with twin blades, locked in epic combat with an ancient and evil dragon.
"Clang!"
The sound of clashing weapons rang out. Alakazam's blade struck toward Aerodactyl, but the attack was blocked by the Pokémon's razor-sharp claws. Despite being deflected, the impact instantly covered Aerodactyl's claws with a thin layer of frost.
After several consecutive slashing attacks, even though each strike was successfully blocked by Aerodactyl's claws, the accumulating Ice-type energy began to take its toll. The persistent cold energy gradually covered Aerodactyl's entire body with a layer of frost, which also caused its movement speed to decrease noticeably.
"Roar!"
Ice-type energy was one of Aerodactyl's primary weaknesses. Feeling the continuous buildup of freezing cold throughout its body, it let out an enraged roar. The ancient Pokémon then beat its wings powerfully and took to the air, shaking its body vigorously to shed the accumulated frost. Once airborne, it surrounded itself with concentrated Flying-type energy, folded its wings back, and began preparing for a devastating attack.
"That's Brave Bird!" Jacob realized with growing concern.
Brave Bird was among the most powerful Flying-type moves available, with incredible destructive potential. Not only was Brave Bird extremely powerful, but it also had a high probability of landing critical hits and could potentially cause the target to flinch in fear.
However, Brave Bird had one significant drawback: it required a charging period before execution. But in the pitch-black environment of the Underground World, this weakness was essentially meaningless. Aerodactyl could simply create distance from Alakazam and build up the necessary energy without interference.
Furthermore, as a Pokémon became more experienced with the move, the required charging time could be reduced dramatically, sometimes to almost nothing at all.
"Roar!"
Aerodactyl folded its wings tightly against its body and dove toward Alakazam like a guided missile. After completing its charge sequence, the Flying-type energy surrounding its body had become incredibly concentrated, causing the Pokémon's entire form to emit a brilliant glow.
Jacob's expression grew dark with worry. Alakazam had used Protect only moments earlier and was still within the cooldown period for the defensive move. If he ordered Protect again, there would only be a one-third chance of the move succeeding.
With such low odds of success, Jacob didn't dare take that kind of gamble with his Pokémon's safety.
Fortunately, Alakazam had access to several unconventional moves that could turn the tide of battle, including Pain Split and Destiny Bond.
Jacob had always considered Destiny Bond to be an incredibly useful move in desperate situations.
Against opponents below King level, Alakazam was virtually invincible. Against Heavenly King-level opponents, it could force a mutual knockout. Only Champion-level opponents possessed enough power to defeat Alakazam without falling victim to its revenge tactics.
"Alakazam, use Pain Split!"
