Chapter 45 - The High Court

IRIS 

Seven regions, seven high councils. The court was filled with so much tension that one could cut it with a knife. When it was his turn to speak, Alpha Jordan made it pretty clear that he didn't frame Xander for anything because it doesn't make sense when he needs his help. He made a compelling argument and I found my gaze swinging back to Annika, where she sat with Alec. 

Just as I was about to look away, our eyes met and she smiled in return. I didn't return her smile, I directed my gaze at Abigail next, no readable expression on her face whatsoever. At the end of the hearing, the council postponed their decision, saying they want to do an investigation of their own before they come to any conclusions. 

Feeling as if all the oxygen had been sucked out of me, I leaned into Xander as we followed everyone out of the courtroom. However, Fiona cuts in front of her, her eyes blazing with anger. 

"Something like this has never happened before." She hissed at me.
