Chapter 284 - Chapter 284: Hard to Choose

Jeanne raised her eyebrows and glanced at Bayonetta's serious expression, asking a little skeptically, "Really?"

"Really." Bayonetta nodded forcefully. She couldn't afford to lose here.

"Oh! Then tonight you should also make a few of your specialty dishes, Cereza."

"But I'm a guest."

"But we're sisters!"

"I hope we really are sisters…"

"How can you doubt the feelings between us?"

"Why aren't you talking? Cereza…"

Behind them, watching the two witches chatting while walking toward the supermarket, Aiden let out a helpless sigh.

'Sisterly love, huh!'

Even though a lot had happened during this time, in fact not many days had actually passed.

The three of them bought some ingredients and daily necessities and returned to Jeanne's apartment. Opening the door, there wasn't any dust everywhere inside.

The black-haired witch looked a little disappointed at that. She had wanted to see Jeanne flustered, but clearly Jeanne usually kept up with the cleaning. She was a diligent woman.

Still, the black-haired witch nitpicked, "It's just a bit small."

"Because before it was only me living here. After Aiden came later, two rooms were just right, one for each."

The silver-haired witch put the bags on the ground, took out three pairs of slippers from the shoe cabinet, set them out, then continued, "Actually, I think two bedrooms and a living room is already a bit big."

"If it were a one-bedroom, where would he sleep?"

The silver-haired witch answered as if it were obvious, "Of course he'd sleep with me."

"The master bedroom bed is huge, two people sleeping there is no problem at all, and any position is fine."

"Sounds like you've already tried all kinds of positions?" The black-haired witch slipped on her slippers and went inside. Her figure was about the same as the silver-haired witch's, so the slippers fit perfectly.

"Eh! Can't help it, he likes it that way!" The silver-haired witch sighed in mock helplessness.

"Speaking of which, you two still haven't tried, have you?"

"Who said that? On the very first day we met we already slept in the same bed." Bayonetta's tone was especially serious, because she wasn't lying.

Jeanne carried the bag toward the kitchen, and on hearing that turned her head, "Better than me. We even slept in separate rooms for a while."

Scoring a point, Bayonetta looked delighted, "Seems your charm still isn't as good as mine."

Jeanne said nothing, only took a bottle of cola out of the fridge and tossed it to Aiden.

Aiden caught it, opened it, took a sip, and then turned on the TV.

Honestly, he couldn't participate at all in the conversation between the two witches, so staying silent was the wisest choice at this time.

But these TV programs really weren't to his taste. Holding the remote and flipping channels for quite a while, he eventually turned his head toward the kitchen.

Bayonetta and Jeanne were busy there.

Although Bayonetta kept saying she was a guest, she had still picked out a few ingredients at the supermarket.

Surely, that wasn't without the intention of competing with Jeanne.

But remembering Jeanne's cooking, Aiden sighed. Five hundred more years of experience wasn't just "having eaten more salt than Bayonetta had eaten food", it was a true dimensionality reduction strike.

So he started mentally preparing himself, "Mm, anyway, when they ask me whose cooking is better, I'll just say both taste good!"

"But that sounds kind of perfunctory… so maybe just stay silent?"

"No, that's not good."

"This is really hard for me!"

———

By the time both witches had finished their respective dishes, Aiden was still tangled up about the issue.

Decisiveness definitely didn't suit his current situation of being so "broadly loving." The most important thing in managing a harem was fairness.

'So… best to praise both.'

Thinking this, Aiden got up and walked to the dining table.

At this point the table was already covered with dishes of all kinds, along with a bottle of champagne and a bottle of Jeanne's treasured wine.

The two witches were already standing by the table, but they hadn't sat down. Instead, both were watching him.

Aiden thought to himself, 'Do they want me to sit first? But the vibe doesn't really seem like that!'

So he didn't dare sit down first, only observed their expressions, but still couldn't make out what they really meant.

Luckily, Bayonetta spoke up.

"You still don't know what you're supposed to do?"

"Uh…" Aiden scratched his head, then shook it again.

Women turned their faces faster than flipping pages, and their minds were more tangled than a ball of yarn. He couldn't possibly guess what they were thinking right now.

The silver-haired witch shrugged at the black-haired witch, saying regretfully, "Seems our man hasn't yet learned how to be a proper gentleman. He doesn't even know to help a lady to her seat."

The black-haired witch had the same expression, "Yeah, looks like we really should hire a tutor to teach Mr. Cat some manners."

'I don't want to learn any etiquette. Also, can't you just say it straight?'

But none of that was Aiden's biggest headache at the moment. His biggest headache was clearly the order problem.

Who first, who second, it was hard to choose.

By logic, since he had known Jeanne first, he ought to help her sit first, but…

Aiden sneaked a glance at Bayonetta.

Only, both witches' eyes were already fixed on him, and they noticed this little movement immediately.

Jeanne's mind turned slightly, and she instantly guessed what he was thinking. She looked at Bayonetta and said, "Cereza, you're not a petty person, right?"

Of course Bayonetta understood Jeanne's meaning. She answered directly, "Generally speaking, I'm a very generous woman, but… women can be petty, you know that, right?"

"So, no compromise?" Jeanne's eyes narrowed slightly.

Bayonetta's eyes narrowed as well, "What do you think?"

'I think everyone sitting down on their own would be best,' Aiden thought to himself.

Sensing the tense atmosphere between the two sisters, Aiden cleared his throat and said, "It doesn't necessarily have to be me helping you two sit... how about you two help me sit instead?"

"No way!" the black and white witches said in unison.

But immediately after, they also said together, "Fine."

They had realized this was the only way to break the stalemate. Otherwise, the meal would be uneatable.

So both witches stepped behind Aiden at the same time, and together placed their hands on the back of his chair.

Seeing this, Aiden couldn't help secretly giving himself a thumbs-up for his cleverness. Then, lowering himself into the seat, he grinned and said, "Much appreciated!"

"Not at all!"

"It's what we should do!"

The black and white witches again spoke at the same time.

After that, they returned to their own seats, but didn't touch their forks and knives. Instead, they looked at him again in unison.

Aiden's throat bobbed. He knew a new problem had arisen.

Glancing at the obviously different dishes on the table, Aiden forced a smile and, in an exaggerated tone, said, "Wow, today's food looks amazing, everything looks so delicious, your cooking has improved so much!"

"So could you not be so vague?" Jeanne said unhappily. Her dishes clearly looked more appetizing than Bayonetta's.

"Please tell the truth." Bayonetta frowned as well.

'Aren't you just looking for trouble?'

Aiden looked at Bayonetta, but spoke with unusual firmness, "Anyway, it all looks really good. Come on, let's eat, once it gets cold it won't taste as good."

Saying that, he picked up knife and fork and started cutting the veal steak on his plate as if no one else were there.

In fact, the veal steak was made by Bayonetta. Honestly, it was a bit overcooked, a little tough to chew, but still pretty tasty. Even Aiden, picky as he was, nodded after eating. The only problem was the portion was small, just a few bites and it was gone.

"If you like it, then eat mine too."

Bayonetta was very satisfied with Aiden's reaction. She could tell from his face he wasn't faking it. Seeing him finish his portion, she quickly used her knife and fork to slide her own piece onto his plate.

"Alright!"
