Chapter 108: I Can't Do Anything!
Listening to Oleg's cheerful description and his joke about her being 'not only a benevolent doctor but also martially proficient,' Miss Natasha, who was treating a patient in the clinic, was at a complete loss.
"But... I wasn't at the Great Mine the day before yesterday at all."
"You weren't?" Oleg was taken aback. "But those two miner brothers told me it was Dr. Natasha who stopped the fully-armed gang of vagrants. They couldn't have mistaken the person, could they?" Most of the miners had been treated by Natasha; every one of them was indebted to her. They could mistake anyone, but not Dr. Natasha.
Oleg and Natasha looked at each other, both seeing the suspicion in the other's eyes.
"Where are those two miners?"
"They're just outside."
When Natasha heard the full story from the miners—whose eyes now held more reverence, and even a little awe, than before—about the newly discovered small mineral deposit in the Great Mine and the local ruffians' attempt to seize it, she fell silent. The two miners were absolutely certain that the gray-haired figure they saw was her.
But that was impossible. At that time, she was in Rivet Town, directing Wildfire to move the energy candy. How could she have been at the mine? As a doctor, Natasha's first thought was that the two miners had experienced a shared hallucination. There was no other explanation.
In any case, the outcome of the incident was good. The armed vagrants were all under control, and no miners were injured. Natasha temporarily put her confusion aside and continued with her daily work.
That was until she saw the older Seele, her face conflicted, hesitating and unable to speak.
"Natasha, um, what were you... doing last night?"
"Last night? I was counting the candy and sorting the supplies recovered from Rivet Town... What's wrong, Seele?" Natasha looked with surprise at the blue-haired girl scratching her cheek, her gaze slightly evasive. She had rarely seen Seele look so hesitant and conflicted.
"Oh, is that so? Then it's nothing," the older Seele said, pretending to be nonchalant as she turned her head away, but her heart sank a little. So, Natasha won't admit it if I ask directly. The older Seele had expected this. But even with her straightforward personality, she couldn't bring herself to just break through Natasha's lie and ask her why she went to Caelus to do that.
"I'll get back to work."
Watching the older Seele leave in a hurry, Natasha was somewhat baffled. Another strange thing had happened.
The older Seele's task for the day was to continue salvaging usable supplies from Rivet Town, squeezing out their last bit of value. It was impossible to move all the leftover materials from an entire industrial town in half a day. Caelus and Stelle's act of turning Fragmentum creatures into energy candy had clearly drained the Fragmentum's energy, and the Fragmentum in Rivet Town was showing signs of shrinking. Currently, the frequency and strength of monster appearances had decreased, making it the best time to recover supplies.
On the way, the older Seele met Seele and Bronya, who had come to help. A small team of three with a delicate relationship was thus formed. With the girl-charming Seele in the lead, holding hands with Big Sister Seele on her left and Big Sister Bronya on her right, the three of them—in short skirts and white stockings—stormed Rivet Town. With Black Abyss held like a meteor, they looked to the northwest and shot down the Fragmentum monsters.
As they searched, the three of them came to an orphanage. Following the steps up, they saw the orphanage situated on high ground. Seele saw the older Seele's expression become somewhat complicated, and what puzzled her even more was that Bronya also showed a similar emotion.
The three arrived at the orphanage entrance. Bronya roughly understood the reason for her confusion—she seemed to have lived here for a period of time. The older Seele didn't believe it at first, but Bronya's vague memories described some past events at the orphanage, and she even found an object that proved her identity. Only then did the older Seele accept the shocking fact with disbelief—the Underworld orphanage had actually produced an heir to the Supreme Guardian!
Bronya was on the verge of breaking down, her fair hand gripping the railing tightly. "Every day I watch the Silvermane Guards sacrifice themselves in the Fragmentum, yet I could never make up my mind to oppose Mother. My former home has become like this, and I was completely kept in the dark..."
"In the end, I can't do anything!"
"That's not true! 'You' can definitely do it! Seele believes in 'Big Sister Bronya'!"
Taking Bronya's hands in hers, Seele comforted her gently. If the password for one account is wrong, it's fine. Just switch to her account~!
"All this crying is so noisy! Instead of crying here, don't you have more important things to do?!"
Compared to the younger Seele's gentle comfort, the older Seele's words were a direct wake-up call to Bronya. Afterward, to help Bronya ease the burden on her heart, the three of them began a heart-to-heart talk in the orphanage.
Originally, the relationship between the three of them, using the Honkai world as a comparison, was that if the younger Seele was White Seele, then the older Seele was Black Seele, and Bronya was Little Duckie. This trip to the orphanage had greatly improved the relationship between the older Seele and Bronya.
Meanwhile.
Without Dan Heng as their limiter and leash-holder, Stelle, Caelus, and March 7th had completely let themselves go, playing like crazy.
Stelle was lucky enough to find a centuries-old antique, an Interastral Peace Corporation household item finder, 'Richard Version 0.63,' nicknamed 'Chabao.'
"Chabao, help me find all the trash cans in the area."
Stelle was overjoyed. She had been worrying that finding trash cans one by one was too slow. With the item finder, she could go straight to her destination, making her treasure chest opening much more efficient!
Chabao: "Beep-boop! That function is not..." I'm the deluxe edition of the year! What do you mean, use me to find trash?
However, before it could finish, Chabao saw Caelus and Stelle, one raising a fist and the other a baseball bat. The small machine felt a large 'Danger' sign appear above its head.
"Beep-boop~ User request logged."
Stelle crossed her arms and nodded in satisfaction. "See? Percussive maintenance always works on electronics. If it doesn't, you're not hitting it hard enough!"
With Chabao's help, Caelus and Stelle quickly rummaged through the surrounding trash cans.
Caelus, Crystals +57 Stelle, Crystals +56
Afterward, they happened upon an event at the Fight Club. It was mainly because Caelus had triggered a system quest to become the champion. The three of them happily entered the Fight Club and started fighting. They steamrolled their way through, taking the champion, runner-up, and third place, respectively earning the titles of "Smiling Little Pink Dragon," "Gray-haired Little Raccoon," and "Blazing Teens King."
Stelle was the champion, but since she and Caelus counted as one person in the system's rules, Caelus's quest was still considered a success.
7K + 30.
"Mmm, another fulfilling day!"
That night, at the Goethe Grand Hotel, after drinking some kind of algae soup and eating a crab-like food, Stelle slumped in her chair, patting her small belly in satisfaction.
Dan Heng shook his head at Stelle's lazy demeanor. Considering everything Stelle and Caelus had done for the Underworld, he decided to just let them go crazy.
After dinner, the group discussed their plans for the next day: to go to the mechanical settlement in the furnace core area and negotiate with Svarog. To lift the blockade on the Underworld, the mechanical faction led by Svarog was a crucial node that had to be passed. However, Caelus didn't seem too concerned about it. He was 100% confident in his negotiations with Svarog. After all, his opponent was a 700-year-old robot. All he needed was a little preparation, and there would be no chance of failure.
In a guest room on the third floor of the hotel, the small room was simply furnished, with every object spotless, clearly cleaned meticulously every day.
Caelus was lying on his side on the bed, playing on his phone. He held it horizontally, his fingers swiping rapidly across the screen, making the small character on the screen move. It was a MOBA-style game, similar to Honor of Kings or League of Legends.
Victory!
The game ended, and the victory sign popped up on the screen. The next second, Caelus received a private message from Silver Wolf.
[Single-Helix Bronya: My bro, well done!] [Single-Helix Bronya: Bro Caelus... no, Godfather, what's my next move?]
Accompanying the message was a Q-version Silver Wolf sticker, sitting obediently with her hands on her knees, listening attentively, her eyes filled with a thirst for truth.
To Silver Wolf, her advisory team of a part-timer, a slave, a little Seele, and a demon king couldn't hold a candle to a single hair on her great Godfather's head! So far, the Godfather's strategies had been flawless, and every piece of advice had benefited her greatly!
Caelus smiled faintly, first sending back an emoji of a worldly master, then started typing.
[Ripping Tiles Off The Roof: Simple, simple. Next, all you need to do is...]
Creating opportunities for Silver Wolf to show off in front of Seele in a three-person team game was a piece of cake for Caelus! And the subsequent strategic advice was even easier. He was the absolute best wingman in the entire galaxy!
After all, Caelus was teaching Silver Wolf how to woo... himself.
After playing a few games together, Caelus, with another 'Godfather!' from Silver Wolf, left the time to her and Seele to enjoy their pleasant time together.
Putting down his phone, Caelus leaned against the headboard, resting his chin on his hand. He glanced at the windowsill, then at the room door. Besides that ordinary door, Caelus had three other fields of vision in his mind.
One was a game screen held in two hands; this was Seele.
One was a lavish mansion where a pale, sweating, obese noble was on the verge of collapsing to the floor; this was Bronya.
The last one... in this field of vision was a gray-haired girl, a baseball bat in one hand, her back pressed against the wall. She was tiptoeing to Caelus's door, her ear pressed against it, her gaze sharp. Her on-guard posture was exactly like that of a wife who had discovered her husband was cheating and was about to catch him in the act.
The moment she heard a strange sound or felt a subtle shared sensation, Stelle would immediately break down the door.
She needed to know who her wife was!
"This one..."
Crouching on the roof, Raven sighed with a mix of amusement and exasperation. The pain-in-the-ass Stellaron spirit had been disturbing her for several nights now. "But, oh well..."
The black-and-pink raven feathers spread, and the black shadow flickered. Raven disappeared from the roof of the Goethe Grand Hotel.
Caelus opened the door, snatching the baseball bat from a slightly stunned Stelle.
Bonk! Bonk! Bonk~!
He tapped her on the head three times lightly, then, just as Stelle had done to him the night before, he grabbed the back of her collar, tossed her onto the bed, and covered her with the blanket.
Time for bed!
