At Arial's words, Silas only gave her a faint smile, the kind that barely touched his eyes.

"If you want to talk to Ivy, you can," he replied calmly. "I wasn't the one who made that decision."

The moment those words fell, everyone went quiet.

The jeep rolled forward smoothly, and soon they passed through the gates of the base without encountering a single obstacle.

Almost unconsciously, all of them let out a breath they hadn't realized they were holding. The difference was immediate and overwhelming.

Outside, the heat had been so oppressive that sweat had soaked through their clothes, clinging to their skin as if it might peel off at any moment.

But the instant they entered the range of SiIvy Base, the scorching air eased.

The heat retreated like a tide, replaced by something breathable, almost gentle.

A cool breeze brushed against their faces.
