When my eyes had gotten used to the environment which was up in dust and smoke, I realized that it was only my men who were within the compound. In my guess, the kidnappers, met with unexpected high-handedness, escaped for dear life.
"Where's my wife?" I asked one of my men when I got close. The others who had come with me, looked around the compound for signs that any of the kidnappers still lurked around, but found none.
"She's inside, boss." He replied. It was difficult to recall his name at the moment, and it was not important that I did.
"How safe is she?" I asked, looking closely at him, and wondered why his eyes had darted from the building where Nicole should be which was currently locked, to me.
"Is she safe?" I asked again, my voice had become louder. Although there was no way for him or any of the men outside to know whether Nicole was safe or not, I would ask anyway, and expect to be provided with answers.
