He stayed. Warm. Unmoving. Not fading at the edges like things do when sleep unravels. Her thumb brushed threadbare cotton near his shoulder - not asking, just checking. Still here. Even silence felt solid, shaped around them like something built to last.
Eventually she spoke, soft and close, a quiet ache in her words like something held back too long. You've lost weight, she said, almost under her breath. Her eyes stayed on his face, tracing what had changed.
