Stillness filled the space between them. Her head leaned on him, close to where his heart beat. Words stayed unspoken. Instead, there was only breath, warmth, the quiet sound of being near.

Breathing against his chest, she listened - each beat a quiet anchor pulling her back to now. Cloth gathered under her hand, knuckles whitening just slightly, holding on like memory tends to slip. He stayed. Warm. Unmoving. Not fading at the edges like things do when sleep unravels. Her thumb brushed threadbare cotton near his shoulder - not asking, just checking. Still here. Even silence felt solid, shaped around them like something built to last.

Eventually she spoke, soft and close, a quiet ache in her words like something held back too long. You've lost weight, she said, almost under her breath. Her eyes stayed on his face, tracing what had changed.
