Chapter 4 - Solar Flares

Sol had been up all night with her friends. The night before, news networks all over the world had announced the upcoming solar flares that would last for five hour as soon as the sun rose. Sol, her friends, and everyone they knew would be up all night just to witness this once in a lifetime event. As they watched the sun begin to rise, Sol felt her whole body tingling and burning. then she felt and intense rush in her leg, and when she glanced at it, it was gone and all that was left were gold and orange ashes. She then felt the rush in her arms then her ears, then she was gone. All that remained were gold, orange, red and yellow ashes. The whole world seemed to freeze. and all around Sol, wherever she was, wwas dark for a long time.

When Sol eventually woke up, she felt her right hand and foot hanging of the side of a platform. When she managed to shift her body, she gasped and dragged herself backward. As she looked over the edge of the platform she saw a plane cut through the clouds. Sol put her hands on her side and pushed against the platform, forcing herself onto her legs. She slightly stepped foward and loooked over the edge once more, hoping to see anyything that could tell her where she was, but only saw a thick, white blanket of clouds beneath the platform. Sol stepped back and looked behind her. She fell to the ground, her jaw dropped, and her eyes rapidly raced back and forth. before her there was a thick, dense jungle, unlike any she had seen before. the trees that would usually be green where shades of red and purple, the dirt was a deep blue, the sky was shades of pink purple and orangs, and the water... the water was a bright gold color with highlights of cyan and pink. As Sol starred in amazement, she felt a nunge behind her and looked back in a haste. She saw a long pair of feet and followed them upwards with her gaze. Above her, probaly standing at 7 meters tall was a beautiful flamingo sprinkled with shades of pink cyan and gold. As the flamingo moved its foot from behind her, Sol fell backwards. She lay there for a while with her eyes wide open in shock then pulled herself toghter and forceed herself to her feet. Stumbling from shock, Sol began moving towards the ledge where the water was coming from. She believed that if she found the source of the water, maybe there would be some sort of civilization there.

Sol walked for a long time until she finally saw it. A sign of life. before her, ther was a large sun shaped building that seem to stretch for ever both upward and downwards. Sol approched it with excitement and caution.

When she got to the entrance of the building, she tried to knock on the enormus door but swiflty withdrew her hand. The door was burning hot. Sol thought for a minute then pulled her sleeve over her knuckles and attempted to knock again. This time she felf her body pass through the door and she saw herslf floating through what spped to be outer space.

When she eventually reached the other side of the door, she saw a blazing figure standing before her. She reached out to touch it as though she was entanced, but before she could make contact with it, she felt a violent pain all over her body, then her body began to dissapear into gold ashes. Sol disappeared.

On the earth, everything remained frozen in place as the sun moved closer and closer to the planet.
