"Mommy, did that naughty mouse try to steal your good things?" Adam's curiosity, once piqued by the mouse, would not be quelled, he peppered questions and insisted he had to watch Mommy poison the big rat himself.
A light cough from the doorway made Claire look up. Gilbert stood there, arms folded, watching them with deep, unreadable eyes.
Her smile froze, warmth drained from her face until only ice remained.
How could she have forgotten how Adam and Dean had arrived?
"Not even a 'thank you' for bringing the kids to see you?" Gilbert stepped closer.
Hidden from the children's view, Claire rolled her eyes at him. He hadn't come out of kindness, of course the boys had missed her and he couldn't refuse their pleas.
After a while she sent Lisa to take the children to a nearby conference room, then turned to confront Gilbert.
"Mr.Watson, explain yourself. You had a hole smashed in my office ceiling, what on earth for?" Her tone was sharp as frost.
