Chapter 23 - Fen, This Is Why We Don’t Split the Party

Rose's body flipped to the left, attempting to move out of the way. But the feathers were too fast. – In a flicker, Tris's wings made the impact with our lovely Guardian, all the force they had and speed, hitting her like a truck!

Tris grinned as he stared at her, body flipping a few times as she hit the wall with a loud slam. – The slam just caused him to flinch, hands up, covering his fluffy ears. Tails flickering into the air as he let out a small squeak.

The vine lady stretched herself as he got back up, head giving a small shake as he regained her senses, looking back at the boy. – She could win if she kept going one mistake is all it took. He was not a master in his art yet. – But she believes she saw enough.

Tris knew the same, but such did not stop him from trying, perfection was not something we could achieve fast. But its is something he could train with time. – So he was willing to go further if he had to.

She gave a chuckle, her eyes falling onto Fen in the corner, stretching her arms lightly as she sighed. – It truly was enough for now. They had more time to see his capability with a blade and wings later in the day. – Because both could tell... Althea was gonna kick them if they found them fighting.

"You win, calm down. – You barely speak... Yet already took flight... In both ways."

Rose answered, dropping her sword as it seemed to turn into vines, burrowing themselves into the ground, but making sure not to leave a hole behind themselves. – She had grace in the end! Leaving a hole would not have been graceful at all.

"I- Do I look like I know how to fly to you? – I got them like an hour ago at most-! All I know is pretty shiny things!"

He answered, his tails flickering into the air swiftly, ears flickering as well! The fox crossed his arms, giving a big huff. – The boy was honestly wondering how bullied he would have been as an angel that cannot fly in the heavens...

Then his mind flew to another topic. – Were they even called the heavens? Theoretically, does heaven even exist... It is probably under another name... And that means there's an equivalent to hell!

"Huh... I suppose you're broken then!"

Rose answered blankly, smiling as he walked over to Fen with a small yawn. – She couldn't get tired, nor could Fen. But in the end, looking more human was always an advantage – Making the enemy think you are softer than normal.

Tris's mouth fell open. Did she just call him broken?! He was not broken, he was fixed in every mode imaginable! – Wait- What would have implied he was broken somewhere in the past! So he just brushed that idea away, staring at Rose with a blank expression.

Fen in the corner finally broke his silence, beginning to laugh at the situation the two found themselves in. He found it quite hilarious! – And in the end, who could say it wasn't from his own point of view?

Then, all of them suddenly went silent. Rose stopped moving, turning Fen stopped making a sound. Turning as well! And Tris's ears flickered. – Before he had time to turn himself, suddenly. A hand was placed right on top of his head lightly, patting him and remaining there.

The hand was gentle, just remaining there as Fen and Rose stared right behind him, rather shocked by what had suddenly happened. – A soft chuckle just followed from behind Tris, yet whatever or whomever was behind seemed not to move.

"Ah... A good reunion, no? On such a sweet day. – Quite a fun fight you two had, hm? But do make sure to not lay a finger on him... Or we will have a talk."

A heavenly, angelic-like voice spoke softly, its tone and words almost healing your soul. – Yet having clear malice hidden for Rose. Specifically, her clearly Tris already knew who it was. Althea. – Her own hand moved lightly, tapping Tris's cheek. Still standing massively above him in this form.

"Uh- Uh... Yes, understood Queen Althea... Golden wing of the Stags..."

Rose seemed to be speaking quite softly, having a lot more to say. Yet Althea raised her hand from Tris's head, clearly making her shut up. – Tris assumed it to be more and more ranks... Wondering how many his mother actually had.

"Please... Don't mention all those ranks, or I'm going to throw you out of the nearest window, or through the closest wall. – Or through the sky if you so wish."

Those words left her mouth like a hiss. Tris's head moved back, now slightly against her arm as he looked up, seeing her without a mask, wearing more mundane clothes, clearly having made her way here normally, then going into her big form.

Her hair was still white, somewhat. It was more silver, so to speak, since there was not much natural light within the room. – So he could truly see its colour with much more ease. – Seeing him look up, she gave a small chuckle, flicking his forehead.

He let out another small squeak, his tails flickering into the air lightly, wings turning puffy instead of their hard steel form. – Her hand just moved to pat him once more before moving to his side.

"Yes... Queen of Stags."

Rose's answer was small and swift, not wishing to spend too much time thinking in front of Althea... It was clear she outclassed her by a very, very big gap. – A queen of sky was always bound to pass the limits of a queen of plants. – Simply such was the world.

Seeing her walk to his side, Tris could see her wings were missing, not being with her in that current moment, most likely... For himself? He probably had to store them in some box and summon them when needed, for now...

"Seems you two have already had a small reunion, eh?"

Fen spoke, still smiling in the back as he looked at the two. – Finding their situation quite adorable. – Mainly taking he wasn't in the centre of being beaten or bullied. – So it was good for him! He would gladly watch Rose get bullied a little bit.

"We have Fen... Now, if I may ask, why was my child alone fighting such a shard?"

The malice returned in her angelic voice, her eyes falling behind Rose, right on Fen. – And he froze, for a small moment, just considering what to say. – To avoid being beaten right here and there by the protective mother of the little fox.

"Ah- Uh... We were not aware of the shard being a part of a pack... It was a lone one when we first ran into it... – So I decided to send the child to deal with it... Althea."

Fen spoke, attempting to sound as innocent as possible. – Though such was hard in front of the queen herself. – She has dealt with so many liars that it was like she could feel if someone was innocent or not through their words alone.

Perhaps he was innocent... But not about the fact that he hasn't gotten enough information on that shadow before sending a youngling to deal with it... He should have gone himself. – That was the course of action which would have been right. Not sending a child.

"Is that so, Fen? – You know I am greatly aware you have not gotten even close to enough information on that one before making a choice... – I would've thought higher of you. One of my husband's old groups. – But at least you're doing your job. And leading the avatars for the start of it. – After all, you are an avatar yourself... Or was, before they were born. – Then your powers were taken, reason you were made immortal by my dear Nathen..."

Althea was blunt, not holding back on roasting and pointing out the past in front of Rose and Tris. – She had no reason to keep secrets from the current audience. They should have known to begin with. – A harsh queen she was. – Tris almost felt bad for the guards having to take care of her... Did she even have guards?

"... Yes, it was a bad move, without enough information, we had no way to know how great of a threat it was... – I apologise, Queen Althea..."

Fen spoke softly, still attempting to escape the current predicament he found himself in.... – Literally, it was like he was in court right now! And he had no lawyer! – Against the government itself! – Such was a very bad situation to be in!

Tris smiled for a few seconds, looking at the situation after his mother when silent. Giving a small chuckle. – It was quite the situation Fen found himself in, and from Tris's point of view, it was one of the most hilarious things he had seen all week.

Yet, in the next second... Althea disappeared in a blink, appearing in front of Fen!
