"I'm going to die," Inosuke thought.

Then, a flash of fire erupted from the dark forest, followed by a sharp clang of metal.

"Flame Breathing, Second Form, Rising Scorching Sun!"

Rengoku arrived just in time, blocking the fatal blow.

However, Rengoku's strike didn't deflect Upper Rank One's blade; the two blades collided, showering sparks as the air vibrated violently.

"Get out of the way, you boar-head!" Rengoku struggled against Upper Rank One, knowing that continued confrontation risked losing his sword.

Inosuke, startled by Rengoku's shout, quickly moved aside.

Rengoku disengaged, using the angle of his blade to redirect Upper Rank One's attack. The blade slid off Rengoku's Nichirin Blade, showering sparks before striking the ground at his feet.

Rengoku retreated to Inosuke, his expression grave, his eyes filled with shock.

"Michikatsu Tsugikuni!!" Rengoku exclaimed, addressing Upper Rank One.

Inosuke, hearing Rengoku call out Upper Rank One's name, asked, "Your friend?"

Rengoku shook his head, refusing further explanation. "I'll explain later. Now isn't the time."

Squad Two arrived, joining Rengoku and Inosuke.

"Leave immediately and tell Ryuji and the others to retreat!" Rengoku ordered, urging them to leave.

He had no confidence in defeating Upper Rank One. Even if they were evenly matched initially, Upper Rank One, as the leader of the Twelve Kizuki, possessed a demonic body far superior to a human's, giving him a significant advantage.

Demons don't tire, and injuries, short of decapitation, have little effect. Rengoku, however, would be instantly defeated by even a minor injury.

This is why Rengoku felt he had little chance of winning. If Upper Rank One was easily defeated, he wouldn't be Upper Rank One.

Even with a numerical advantage, Inosuke and the others were no match for Upper Rank One; they would be instantly killed.

Inosuke's near-death experience was a prime example. If Rengoku hadn't arrived and blocked the attack, Inosuke would have been killed without a chance to fight back.

"Why?!" Kyōjurō hadn't sensed the danger from Upper Rank One and was confused. She assumed that with a Hashira present, there was no danger.
