"You should stop acting like what we had meant something," I said, my voice cold and sharp, like a blade I didn't mind using.
Matt froze.
His hand dropped from the door, and he slowly turned to face me, confusion and hurt swimming in his eyes. "What?"
I took a few steps toward him and folded my arms tightly across my chest. My heart was thudding hard, but I didn't let it show. "That night... It was just a night, Matt. That's it. One stupid, reckless night. Nothing more."
He looked like he didn't understand the words coming out of my mouth. "You don't mean that."
"I do," I said firmly. "You were a distraction. A one-night stand. Something to help me forget all the crap going on in my life. You were convenient."
His face changed. Whatever soft emotion had been in his eyes disappeared. "Wow," he muttered, almost to himself.
