"He took food," Donovani snapped back at the prosecutor, who was all bent on making Noah a dangerous person. "And not from a small struggling store. It was a warehouse owned by a major distributor. No violence. No weapons. Just a teenager trying to survive."

My heart hammered in my chest. Watching them go back and forth was like watching two people argue over someone's life. About whether he would finally be free or get dragged back to that cold, lifeless cell he'd been in for a decade.

The judge raised a hand, his voice calm. "Counselors, let's proceed with the evidence and witnesses. This is not about emotional sway. It's about the law."

But for me, it was emotional. Every second. Every word. My palms were damp with sweat, and I had to keep blinking to stop myself from crying again.
