Janice stepped forward and asked instead, "I just heard grandpa's voice. Is he still awake?"
Christopher nodded. "Not yet."
He took out milk and bread and asked, "Do you want some?"
Janice shook her head, but seemed to think of something. She said somewhat bashfully, "You'd better not stay here tonight. I'll stay with grandpa."
Christopher frowned. "It's late. If you want to stay, I'll stay with you."
