Chapter 53 - Chapter 2

The dreadship Eternal Vengeance made it to the core world of the Umbra. The ship blew up an orbital defense platform. The residents retaliated by sending their fighters. The dreadship fired a single shot and every ship in a straight line ceased to exist. Panic arose as they tried to defend themselves. The orders were simple no quarters and no prisoners. Turn the planet uninhabitable for thousands of years. I wasn't on board but I was listening to the communications. I was blindfolded and I was practicing how to assemble and unassemble my weapons. An enthusiastic young man gave me instructions that I am supposed to assassinate someone. I smiled but I refused so after a few tries he walked away. I approached central requesting rescue missions and I was directed towards rescuing children who were kidnapped. The prevailing theory is that they are being transported to a secret facility for some sort of sick experiment.

I boarded my ship and met the Heimdall class infiltration squad. They wear masks and use hand signals to communicate. They can go in and out of any building without problems. So far none of them have been apprehended. We flew at light speed through a solar storm and several gravity distortions till we reached our destination. The facility was in an abandoned world where everything was overgrown and the planet no longer had a name. The cartography department sent the last known map of the topography. But I can tell seismic activity and extensive vegetation change the landscape much. The trick was to land somewhere they won't be able to sense us. We landed a few acres away and walked in. I had orders. Collect information on every activity. I was given the order to sanitize the facility so no one else will suffer. One of them used a device that had a handle and flat rectangle with only two buttons. One red and one green. The operator pressed the red button and the rectangle part extended a few inches. There was a clear film which became opaque and I got to see the other side of the wall. He pressed the green button and the device retracted and switched off.

I went towards the control room. I used my technopath abilities to open the door and my counterpart shot the ones inside. They had stopped talking to the point that the simple act of speaking would require therapy to fix. He nod his head and I copied everything. As it slowly ticked away to one hundred percent I heard shouting from the enemy, several explosions and someone firing plasma rounds. By the time it reached one hundred I heard children crying as they thanked their rescuers profusely. I walked out to see they had projected a holographic video of their parents who explained how they had commissioned this mission. They reached out to touch them wanting to know if they were real or this was a hallucination. I came over and took off my mask. I smiled, "Children we are going home but before that could you help me with something. Could you tell these bad ones that we are leaving and we are never coming ever again. They said they will believe it when you say it." The kids blinked a few times and one stepped forward towards the one I held on to. She said with bravado, "Goodbye bad ones. We are leaving and we are never coming back here again. Never ever ever ever." The others found their courage and expressed their displeasure and a promised to never return here for as long as they lived. One walked close as he had the courage and poked him before running back. I asked to be excused and dragged the criminal to supply closet and snapped his neck. I came out and explained that he said that he is extremely sorry and that he was going home to his mommy till he learned his manners. The kids cheered. I asked them to walk in an orderly fashion as we walked out of here.

Once the children were secured on board our ship we demolished the lab and went back to Hae. I was pleased to see the report explaining that the city was safe and sound. I put the mask back on and the kids asked me why I did it. I explained that I am trying to find little ones like them who have been robbed from their mommy and daddy to bring them home. If the bad ones know what I looked like then rescue will be difficult. They stared in awe. I asked to enjoy the snacks that I had packed and they devoured it in minutes. Then they fell asleep. I sat down to write my report. One of the Heimdall infiltrators signed that I have great potential. I should start using my hands to speak and wear a mask to cover my identity. I gave them a thumbs up and I agreed to their terms. We approached the planet and I asked them to take a different lane since I am getting a bad feeling. So they took my advice. We used fake codes to dupe the port authority saying we are hauling refugees. The general was waiting for us along with the parents just outside the space port. We were given special clearance to land there. There was a particular harbor master who was insisting that we should land on the open dock. He was overruled by one of his superiors. I heard the yelling and something snapping before we were cleared.

The children were sleeping as the ramp went down. The parents came and took their children. Each one stared at us with a mix of fear and gratitude. The old man in military uniform happily congratulated us in and assigned me my next mission. Find and kill Maverick's Gambit and Andras. He was last seen in the Sagittal quadrant of the Galaxy. Only a few habitable planets. The only planets with life were Joseum, Tenten, Hanwoo, Haenyo and Sosa. Joseum is where someone from Arcan had allegedly stolen the genetic sequence to make the residents of Arcan into elementals. To their dismay they couldn't make everyone manipulate all four elements. Now being elemental was forbidden. Tenten is a military stronghold where if you so much as sneeze funny you get arrested. Respect the rules and keep your head down. Whatever happens finish your business and get out. Hanwoo was a farming world where it produces the food for at least six systems nearby. It was a trillion Valuta industry. But they used local currency. The currency in general was called Jamkkanman. Which means in a moment. The flat rectangular gold currency with scalloped edges was Hwan. The silver square ones with angular edges were called Hyeong. The bronze ones was called Bulha which means impossible. Haenyo was a water world. There was very little land and the majority of the planet was water. Thousand foot waves are normal. They live in cities built underwater where seaquakes are the only issues. Sosa is an affluent society where gambling and other sordid activities occur daily. Law enforcement lives in the pocket of the one who pays the highest. So crimes go unpunished if committed by the rich.

The uninhabitable planets were Hwasang a molten lava planet that is used for industrial purposes only. Metallurgy is done here by automated bots. Next was the haunted planet of Jalsalja. People who go there commit suicide or become mad. Then there is Sageumpari a planet that rains diamonds. If the cuts don't kill you the impact of the shards will. The next planet Magwi where creatures called Dokkaebi roam freely. They are semitransparent. They have rows of sharp teeth. They glide eerily and they are very territorial so they eat anyone who trespasses in their property. The next is the planet called Apeum which derived from the word pain. True its name the air is toxic which means breathing is impossible and the exposed skin would peel with extreme pain the person bleeds profusely. Injuries are less likely to heal. There is no water available only liquid available is a highly corrosive acid and the ones living there are deadly animals who have adapted to the environment and only want to eat you. The last is Ang-mong. It means nightmare. Spectral creatures live there and they attach to anyone who visits. They will haunt them till they go back. Upon returning things get even worse. So usually they kill themselves to end the pain. So I picked Sosa but the general ordered me to go to Tenten. Wish me luck! I have a bad feeling about this.
