Chapter 103 - Chapter 102: Social Death

Lin Mo looked up and noticed that, somehow, the lively girl with twin ponytails had already walked outside the booth.

Behind her were her assistant, Dorio, and two big men—Maine and Falco.

"Why are you all here?" Lin Mo asked, clearly surprised.

"I called them over. It's always better to drink with more people. But that guy, Pira, isn't coming. Otherwise, the whole team would be here. Rebecca, do you know what's going on?" Maine said with a genuine laugh.

At the mention of Pira, Rebecca's expression immediately soured, and her voice was filled with disdain.

"That guy is better left out. Didn't he just finish a job a few days ago? He was crying like someone died, saying he finally had the money to buy a new 'Super Dream' video. Last night, he worked too hard and fainted at home. He's still unconscious right now!"

Lin Mo couldn't help but sigh upon hearing this; it really did sound like Pira.

"That guy..." Maine sighed helplessly and muttered a few curses.

"Forget about that useless trash. Here's your drink, Little Lin Mo," Rebecca said, seemingly uninterested in discussing Pira further, as she grabbed a bottle of drink from Maine's hand and handed it to Lin Mo.

Lin Mo hesitated, as he seemed to see a mischievous glint in Rebecca's large eyes.

After a moment of hesitation, he took the drink, silently watching the bubbling liquid in the cup, feeling like something unusual might have been added to it.

"You guys can chat. Dorio and I will go sit somewhere else," Maine said, noticing there wasn't enough space in the booth for everyone. He flashed Lin Mo a sly grin, waved, and left with Dorio to talk somewhere else privately.

Lin Mo raised an eyebrow and immediately realized that the current situation wasn't ideal.

Now, he found himself sandwiched between two women. If even Falco decided to go off and drink alone... he'd be the only man left in the booth.

He silently looked over at Falco.

Meeting Lin Mo's pleading gaze, Falco shrugged and said helplessly, "Alright, alright, I'll stay here. Who told us we're good friends?"

He grabbed a beer and sat down in the booth, taking a swig as soon as he sat down, muttering to himself, "It's better to drink in peace. Honestly, I'm not used to drinking with so many ladies."

Clearly, Falco was referring to both Lin Mo and Rebecca.

"Pfft, you old man, just go drink alone if you want!" Rebecca grumbled with annoyance.

Falco didn't seem to mind, his voice thick and mellow, like he was a bit tipsy, as his mustache twitched. "I'm helping a good friend. Also, calling me 'old man' is a bit much. If I shave my mustache, you might end up falling for me."

Rebecca made a dismissive sound and replied with a bit of disdain, "You, with your rambling nonsense, old man."

Watching the two bicker, Lin Mo leaned closer to Sasha and, staring at the drink in his hand, quietly asked, "Sasha, can you use the scanner to check if there's anything in this drink?"

"Are you worried Rebecca poisoned you?" Sasha laughed softly and activated the scanner, glancing at the drink. "Hmm... it's just a regular carbonated drink with 3% alcohol. I guess Rebecca's trying to build your tolerance with this drink."

"That's good then," Lin Mo said, feeling relieved.

Most of his body was still made of his original biological parts. He'd been allergic to alcohol since he was a child, and Xu Wanxue never let him drink, so his tolerance was low. But 3% alcohol wasn't enough to make him shy away from it, and with his current physical attributes, having just had a Johnny Silverhand earlier, a little more alcohol didn't matter.

He drank it all in one go and placed the empty cup on the table.

Rebecca looked over, noticed he finished the drink she prepared for him, and immediately burst out laughing. She patted Lin Mo on the back, praising him.

"Now that's more like it. From now on, I'll teach you how to drink hard liquor, Little Lin Mo."

"Actually, you can just call me Lin Mo, Miss Rebecca," Lin Mo replied, feeling somewhat disgruntled.

Every time he heard her call him "Little Lin Mo," he felt like he was being treated as some kind of mascot.

"Don't be so formal," Rebecca teased, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him like a mentor to a new apprentice. "If you keep being this formal, I won't teach you how to shoot."

Her tone was filled with playful mockery.

Falco, sitting beside them, raised his beer bottle and laughed. "Rebecca, trust me, he won't listen to you. Lin Mo's got his own mind. If you keep pestering him like this, unless you dye your hair white and get red cyber-eyes, he'll just find you annoying."

Lin Mo's face immediately turned a shade of red.

Sasha, watching with interest, blinked and seemed to understand what Falco meant. She glanced at Falco, then at Lin Mo's flushed face.

"White hair, red cyber-eyes? Why's that?" Rebecca asked, her lips curling up in that usual teasing smile. "Did your mom look like that? So, if you look like her, you'll listen better?"

"Falco, why'd you say that out loud?" Lin Mo exclaimed, feeling the awkwardness rise.

Having his XP (exposed past) blurted out in front of everyone was embarrassing, even for someone as calm as him. He felt a wave of shame.

"Eh, eh, eh, Little Lin Mo's blushing!" Rebecca teased, pointing at his face, clearly enjoying it.

Falco, with his usual smooth charm, laughed and casually apologized, "Looks like I misspoke. Sorry, my friend."

He then raised his beer in a mock apology.

You don't actually mean to apologize, do you? Lin Mo thought helplessly.

...

The casual conversation continued from midday into the evening. The group went to a nearby restaurant for a quick meal and returned to the bar afterward to continue chatting.

At one point, after drinking too much, Lin Mo couldn't hold it in any longer and went to the bathroom.

When he returned, however, he was surprised to find that Sasha was no longer in the booth. Her bag was also gone.

Instead, Maine had come back and sat down in his original spot.

"Sit here, Lin Mo, we'll be leaving soon," Maine said, patting the seat beside him, his face showing no signs of nervousness before the mission.

"Sasha left?" Lin Mo asked.

"Yeah, it's not far to the company square. She said she was going alone," Maine said casually, pouring himself another drink and drinking it down with ease.

"Are you two doing some private work?" Falco raised an eyebrow, quickly picking up on the underlying meaning of the conversation.

Rebecca's eyes shifted, and she leaned in to listen to Maine's explanation.

Maine didn't confirm or deny it. He simply smiled and said to his teammates, "Just a little private matter, I can't share it with you now. In a bit, Lin Mo and I will be leaving. You can stay here."

"Drinking with this boring old man isn't fun," Rebecca muttered, then turned her eyes back to Lin Mo, a playful smile appearing again. "It's more fun to mess with Little Lin Mo."

"Sorry, we've got things to do. We can't stay here drinking," Lin Mo said, looking at Maine.

Maine checked his private data panel, noticing that while it was still early, since Lin Mo was pushing, he sighed and said, "Alright, but are you really not going to stay here for a bit longer?"

"Private business is more important, don't waste time," Lin Mo replied.

Maine reluctantly stood up and waved at his teammates. "Well, I'll see you tonight."
