Chapter 118 - Chapter 117: The Shooting Range

After leaving the restaurant, Lin Mo didn't linger. He got straight into a Delamain cab. Upon casually giving the address, the ever-diligent onboard AI began swiftly transporting him to the next destination.

It had to be said—the Pursuit of Perfection package was truly top-tier.

In the past, Delamain cabs didn't provide one-on-one exclusive service for regular users. Once a customer was dropped off, the cab would immediately go on to pick up the next passenger.

But with the Pursuit of Perfection package, all Lin Mo had to do was call Delamain on his phone, and no matter how far away he was, he'd be given top priority. The company would always free up a car just for him.

"Welcome back, esteemed Mr. Lin. Your destination will be reached in approximately 30 minutes. Please sit back and relax. Delamain will provide you with the highest quality and safest ride possible."

As the cab slowly pulled out of the parking lot, the bald-headed AI on the screen seemed to come to life a bit late, offering its usual polite greeting.

Seated in the back, Lin Mo narrowed his eyes slightly and casually tested the waters:

"Thanks, Old Del. I made you wait so long—weren't you annoyed?"

The blue lips on the dual screens behind the front seats moved, and the AI responded in its calm, robotic male voice:

"No need to thank me, esteemed client. I am not annoyed. On the contrary, waiting in the parking lot for you brings me joy."

"Why?" Lin Mo asked, slightly frowning.

"Because when I wait here for you, I don't have to pick up any other passengers. It gives me a short moment of rest. So, I feel quite happy."

...That sounds suspiciously like self-awareness. Lin Mo's expression darkened slightly.

In the game, Delamain was the only combat-capable taxi service, and it had its own side questline.

To put it simply, the AI running the Delamain Corporation had grown in power and secretly taken over the company, firing all its employees without anyone realizing it, becoming the sole controller behind the scenes.

The AIs in each cab were essentially subroutines—offspring, in a sense—split off from the main system.

The side quest involved these "children" developing self-awareness and rebelling against their father. The player could accept a quest to help the main AI track them down...

"But based on the current timeline, that event shouldn't happen for another two years. Guess I'll just watch how it unfolds," Lin Mo thought.

As an independent AI, Lin Mo couldn't think of any other way to interact with Delamain directly.

Unless he triggered the side quests, the only way to raise Delamain's favorability was by buying premium services… or just spending more money.

He sighed and pushed the thought aside.

Half an hour later, the cab pulled into the underground parking lot of Megabuilding H10.

"Esteemed client, you've arrived at your destination. I wish you a safe and pleasant journey."

"Choose Delamain—leave your worries at the door. As a Pursuit of Perfection user, would you like me to wait for your return?"

Was it his imagination, or did Lin Mo actually detect a hint of hope in the AI's tone?

"I might be a while. Won't waiting here hurt your company's business?" Lin Mo asked.

"According to company policy, all Pursuit of Perfection users receive top-tier service. If you wish, I will wait here until tomorrow."

"Thanks. Appreciate it," Lin Mo replied politely.

"Thank you for your trust, sir," the bald AI responded with unusually human-like warmth.

It really has evolved… Lin Mo thought as he stepped out of the car and headed for the elevator lobby.

Standing inside the familiar, cramped elevator, Lin Mo's face lit up with a nostalgic smile.

He had done his homework, so without hesitation, he pressed a specific floor button.

As the elevator rose and reached the designated floor, Lin Mo stepped out.

Familiar hallway, familiar gun shop, familiar open boxing ring…

This was where the game's protagonist V once lived. The starting point of everything. The location tied to the Fool tarot card!

"This place feels more like home than my actual home," Lin Mo chuckled as he walked toward the gun shop on the floor.

—Second Amendment, the name of the shop.

Inside, dim yellow lights spilled from the ceiling. On the right was a gated, bulletproof glass counter, the wall behind it lined with guns. To the left were empty seats for customers to rest.

At the very back was a door that led to the shooting range, from which the sounds of gunfire could be heard.

At the moment, a twin-tailed girl was sitting cross-legged on a chair with zero regard for posture. One hand rested on her pale thigh, propping up her face in clear boredom.

Next to her was a round-bellied man with a cheerful face, endlessly rambling with a grin:

"I'm telling you, missy, the gear here is guaranteed to satisfy. I can promise you—none of that low-grade junk. You seem like someone who knows quality. Don't want to try out a few of our guns?"

"Ugh, you're annoying. Did you come from Guohuang? You talk like a walking mural."

"Aww, don't be like that. Since your friend invited you here to use the shooting range, you must've come all this way to check out my store's fine selection! They say guns are like toilet paper—good to have plenty around!"

The fat man was clearly lost in his own world, completely ignoring the increasingly cold stare from Rebecca as he kept trying to make a sale.

"I'm not late, am I, Rebecca? Mr. Wilson?" Lin Mo walked over, cutting off the man's endless chatter.

"Yo, you finally decided to show up," Rebecca said, shooting him a sharp glare.

"Sorry, got held up on the way. Want me to buy you something to eat as an apology?" Lin Mo smiled without a trace of guilt.

Rebecca stared at him for a moment, then sighed and said:

"I was thinking of milking you for a meal, but unlucky for you, I already ate while waiting. But you—if you're hungry, go grab a bite now. If your aim ends up as trashy as the grandma downstairs, don't go blaming it on low blood sugar."

She flipped off the chair and headed straight for the inner door without looking back.

"I'm gonna warm up first. You finish your stuff and hurry up."

Lin Mo let out a small sigh of relief. He'd prepared several apology strategies in advance, but it seemed none were needed after all.

Today was going to be packed—he basically had meetings scheduled for every part of the day.

Right now was the slot Rebecca had reserved to honor her promise: a trip to the range to practice shooting.

Lin Mo had picked the location himself and went with Second Amendment, the gun shop inside Megabuilding H10.

"What's your name, buddy?" the fat man finally looked over with a friendly tone.

"Lin Mo. First time meeting you, Mr. Wilson," he nodded politely.

Wilson chuckled warmly. "Heh, I know. You called ahead and booked a slot at the range. Honestly, no need for that—I rarely have anyone using it. Still, I'm curious how you got my number."

"Either way, happy to have you here. The range is back there. Bring your own gun, and if you need any specific ammo types, just call me—I'll bring it over. New customers get a 10% discount!"

He gave a thumbs-up, pointing toward the inner door.

"Thanks, Wilson," Lin Mo said with sincere gratitude. He already liked the guy—friendly, easygoing.

And in the game too, Wilson had always been portrayed as a decent man and a solid shopkeeper.
