Kenji walked briskly through the winding paths of Konoha, his eyes darting across rooftops and narrow alleyways, his posture relaxed. The digital interface of the system map shimmered faintly in the corner of his vision, guiding him toward a blinking red dot—Tora's location.
The dot pulsed like a beacon in the western residential area of the village, leading him closer with each step. He didn't break into a run, though. That would be too conspicuous for a civilian merchant like Takeda Ken.
After all, darting through the streets of the Hidden Leaf chasing an invisible target would draw unnecessary attention, something he was strictly trying to avoid.
As he turned onto a quieter road lined with cherry blossom trees and modest homes, the red dot suddenly vanished from the map. Kenji blinked in confusion, a slight furrow appearing between his brows.
"What now?" he murmured, a hint of exasperation in his voice. The system, it seemed, was determined to make him work for it, forcing him to rely on his own abilities rather than digital convenience.
[System Notice: Target within a detected radius.]
Kenji groaned softly, rubbing his forehead. "Figures. You really want me to do this the old-fashioned way. Just my luck." He sighed, a resigned chuckle escaping him, acknowledging the system's subtle push for him to utilize his own honed skills.
Without the aid of the map, Kenji instinctively activated one of his most reliable skills—Spatial Awareness. A ripple moved outward from his mind, like dropping a stone into a perfectly still pool of water, expanding his perception beyond his immediate sight.
With his Spatial Awareness being used often it had leveled up quite a bit, providing clearer details.
The world stretched and sharpened around him, every dimension of his surroundings becoming acutely clear. Every subtle shift of air, each minute movement of a passerby, even the faint vibration of insects brushing against distant walls or the almost imperceptible rustle of leaves—he felt it all.
God that feels weird.
He meticulously filtered through the overwhelming influx of information, focusing intently on quick, light movements that were too small for a human, He was searching for the precise, darting motion of a feline.
Two streets down, tucked in a tight alley beside a quaint rice dumpling shop, Kenji sensed something small and agile shifting rapidly along the wall, a distinct, quick flutter that could only be a cat. His body tensed, muscles coiling, ready to move, when suddenly, his enhanced senses picked up another, much larger, approaching blur—
"AHHH—MOVE IT!!"
A blur of bright orange, radiating an almost palpable kinetic energy, crashed into him with all the force of a chakra-fueled battering ram, surprisingly impactful for a kid. The collision was less an impact and more of a detonation of youthful exuberance.
Kenji hit the ground with a grunt, the impact momentarily knocking the wind out of him. Dust swirled into the air around them as the two tumbled into a heap on the cobbled street, a tangle of limbs and bright orange fabric.
Civilians walking nearby paused at the unexpected spectacle, some raising eyebrows, others chuckling softly, but most soon dismissed it with a shake of the head—this was Konoha, after all, a village where chaotic youthful energy wasn't entirely unusual, especially around certain notorious individuals who seemed to attract mayhem. It was just another Tuesday.
Lying on the ground, Kenji saw a familiar flash of blond spiky hair and an unmistakable orange jumpsuit. A groaning voice followed, complaining about the sudden collision and the indignity of being on the ground.
"Oww... Sorry! My bad!"
Naruto Uzumaki, the hyperactive ninja-in-training himself, quickly sat up and rubbed his head with a grimace, already recovering with astonishing speed. Kenji, despite the minor surprise, stood quickly, recovering his composure with practiced ease, and extended a hand to the boy.
Thank god for Gamer's body or else he was sure he'd be feeling that till tomorrow morning.
"You alright?" Kenji asked, keeping his tone light and feigning casual ignorance. He didn't want to give away that he knew exactly who this was. His Gamer's Mind ensured his expression remained neutral and friendly.
Naruto grabbed his hand and pulled himself up with a burst of surprising strength, a wide, almost immediate grin already forming on his face despite the minor discomfort. "Yeah, yeah, all good. Wow, you're pretty solid for a random guy, Mister! Like hitting a brick wall!" He dusted off his jumpsuit, completely unbothered by the collision, his boundless energy already returning.
Kenji smirked, playing along perfectly. "Comes with the territory. Strong bones, healthy meals from my shop, you know. Good cooking and food builds good strength." He internally noted how easily the fabricated identity slotted into conversation.
While Naruto dusted himself off, momentarily distracted and already looking around as if searching for something, Kenji discreetly activated Observation. His eyes briefly glowed with an imperceptible shimmer, gathering data on the boy before him.
[Target Identified: Naruto Uzumaki – Tier 8(low)] Chakra Level - Tier 6(low).
Holy shit. As expected of an Uzumaki, born from Two kage level shinobi, reincarnated demigod and jinchuriki of the Nine tailed beast.
His chakra was indeed a storm—powerful, raw, and barely under control, fluctuating wildly. It pulsed intensely beneath the surface, and beneath that was a vortex of power, a chained beast constantly struggling against its containment, a testament to the immense power of the Nine-Tails within him.
This kid was a beast that was failed to be nurtured properly. It had always been something he hated about Naruto, the lack of proper training that was given to him and see how much power was in this kid right now. He felt more disappointed that no one ever taught to guide him right.
With the secret of the shadow clones and his healing and endurance, you could push him far beyond anything and they just sat on their asses and keep saying 'I believe in you naruto' but never help. Fools.
"So what's the rush?" Kenji asked, making his best impression of someone clueless who had just been randomly tackled by a hyperactive child. "You were moving like a hurricane, kid."
Naruto's eyes widened, and he immediately launched into a passionate, slightly whiny explanation, his mouth ever loose as always. "Man, we're trying to catch this dumb cat—Tora! It's supposed to be an easy D-rank mission, but that thing's crazy fast. It's like... it's got ninja training or something! It's craftier than a Jōnin, I swear!"
Ever the trusting kid. He didn't even hesitate to spill.
"I thought being a ninja was supposed to be cool missions, saving princess and fighting bad guys not searching for lost cats" He grumbled out.
He threw his hands up in frustration, then pointed vaguely down the alley they had just crashed out of. "And now, because I tripped over you, I lost sight of it again! Sasuke's gonna act all cool and like a damn bastard, and Sakura's gonna yell at me!"
The kid deflated dramatically, clearly annoyed by his blunder and the anticipated reprimands from his teammates. Kenji inwardly mused how incredible it was that this kid, with his loose tongue and knack for attracting trouble, managed to survive to adulthood and beyond. It was a testament to his innate luck and resilience, not to mention plot armor.
"A cat, huh?" Kenji raised an eyebrow, pretending to ponder this bizarre mission with a serious expression. "Sounds like a real challenge if a ninja of your caliber was tasked with this." He almost chuckled.
"Yeah!" Naruto reiterated, exasperated, stomping his foot. "Lady Shijimi's pet! It's the fourth time this month she's reported it missing, and now it's our job to bring it back. Again. It scratched my face last time when I tried to hug it!" he added, rubbing a faint mark on his cheek that he could already see healing.
Kenji rubbed his chin thoughtfully, feigning deep consideration for a moment, then gave a small, decisive nod. "Well, I don't have anything urgent going on right now. My shop's running itself for a bit, Naomi can handle it. Want some help? My eyes are pretty sharp, and I'm good at finding things people don't want to be found." He subtly gestured in the general direction of the alley where he'd finally detected what he hoped was Tora and not just another cat.
Naruto's face lit up immediately, his previous sulking forgotten in a flash of pure enthusiasm. "You mean it?! You're awesome, Mister! You seriously wanna help us catch that furball?!" His grin was infectious, radiating pure, unadulterated joy.
Kenji laughed, a genuine sound that resonated through the quiet street. "Let's just say I like a good chase, and Besides, it sounds interesting. By the way, I'm Takeda Ken, call me Ken."
"I'm Naruto Uzumaki and I'm gonna be Hokage someday believe it."
He chuckled a little at that. Iconic.
"Hey Are you a ninja, too?" Naruto asked suddenly, his gaze sharp, peering at Kenji's clothes, which were civilian-appropriate and lacked any village insignia.
"No, but I've picked up a few tricks on the road. Fast feet and sharp eyes come in handy when you're dealing with stubborn customers or finding rare ingredients." He gave a reassuring, non-committal smile.
Naruto, ever focused on the task at hand and not particularly perceptive at this stage of his development, didn't question further, accepting the explanation without a second thought. The lure of an extra pair of hands was clearly more appealing than probing a stranger's background.
"Alright then, tag along! I don't care who helps me as long as I catch that furball before Sasuke does." He was already pumped up again, the minor setback completely forgotten.
The boy turned on his heel and darted back into the maze of buildings, shouting about Tora in his pursuit. Kenji followed at a more measured pace, activating Stealth just in case, ensuring his movements were quiet and subtle, blending seamlessly with the village's background noise.
He also kept Spatial Awareness rolling, his senses fully engaged, extending his perception like an invisible net. His eyes meticulously scanned rooftops and alleyways, his senses tuned for the slightest sign of feline movement, ready to pinpoint the elusive target.
He watched Naruto jump around on the buildings with his shadow clones and couldn't help but be amazed, chakra was something else.
It felt somewhat similar to magic but denser and rigid, while magic seemed softer and more fluid. Magic was spiritual in nature so if he had to guess he would say that it was because chakra was both spiritual and physical energies mixed, yin and yang, that's why it felt denser.
Joining the MCS had given all members what was known as A Universal body, That meant they could learn any power system from the worlds they go to without having things like a chakra network or Magic circuits.
Normal that meant that while you had the chance to learn a power system, you still had to learn it yourself. But.
"Hey Naruto" he shouted drawing the boy's attention as he dropped down.
"I wanted to ask, how do you do all your ninja magic things" he asked, he made sure to ask in a way that won't actually give him away. He knew that civilians weren't actually educated on how chakra worked so he wanted to give that impression too.
"Well I just use my chakra and them Baam," he said with a wide grin as he demonstrated his shadow clone technique.
Ever the simple minded kid. He chuckled.
"Ohhh, that's impressive but how do you use chakra".
"Well..." He scratched his head, clearly not knowing how to explain it in a technical term. "In the academy, they just told us to concentrate and then use the Ram seal, like this" he showed off the seal joining his hands together.
"I see, can you show me.....Like an example, to see how amazing you are" he added at the end, flattering the kid.
Always eager to prove himself he didn't even hesitate. 'God please help this kid'.
As he did, the force of his chakra flared, nearly visible in the air. Kenji focuses all his senses on Naruto to better understand.
'It's amazing. But...Not enough, maybe if I...' he edged his hand closer, putting his hands on the kid's shoulder to feel the energy and focused on it.
"That's awesome Naruto, I bet with chakra like this you'd be a great shinobi one day"
"I know right, and I'll be better than even Sasuke-teme" He shouted in joy.
"Well let's keep searching for the cat"
"Oh I forgot about that"
He jumped back up on the run already leaving Kenji behind.
'Hmmmmm" he looked at his hand as he focused on the energy inside of him and then made the ram seal. He focused, focused, and focused before.....
New Passive Skill Acquired: Chakra
New Skill Acquired: Chakra Control (LV 1)
He couldn't help but grin. For all its inherent absurdity and the mild inconvenience of being tackled, this mission was proving to be an unexpected gain.
While others would have had to learn manually, he had the advantage called Gamer's system. 'hehehehehehehe anyone who told you having a gamer system is boring is a damn liar'
He had wanted to see if he could learn this from a scroll with a jutsu but he had a feeling that he won't be able to because of the lack of chakra. He knew that sometimes the gamer system would tell you you can't learn something because you either lack the stat, requirement or it's harmful. That's why he tried it this way, if it hadn't worked he would have tried the scroll. Look for one and try. Now that that's done back to the mission.
"Let's see where this chase takes us," he murmured, a glint of genuine excitement in his eyes. This was getting good.
