The mist curled thicker around them.
Just when the team thought they had their enemies in sight, the fourth wolf struck.
It came from behind—silent as a phantom, fast as lightning. One moment there was nothing but fog, the next, a hulking shadow burst out of it, fangs bared and claws stretched wide.
Its crimson eyes locked on Mira.
"AHHHHH!" she screamed, stumbling backward, her staff nearly slipping from her trembling hands.
The flames at its tip flickered wildly as panic shattered her focus.
"OYYYYY!" Edwin's voice bellowed, crashing through the chaos like thunder.
From the side, the dagger-user burst out of the shadows with incredible speed. His blades flashed silver.

He slashed across the wolf's glowing eye.
The beast let out a piercing howl, jerking its head violently as blood sprayed from the wound. In its rage, it snapped blindly, its massive jaws snapping shut inches from the boy's chest.
